    What is Amazon Family?

    • andi

They recently changed the name of the Amazon mom memberships to Amazon family.

        Oh I see, thanks!!

It used to be called Amazon Mom and it’s free to sign up for Prime Members. Collin posts terrific deals for Amazon Family, such as the free formula or majorly discounted diapers and wipes.

I would just like for people to keep in mind that when you get this to “donate” just because it’s free you are giving it to places where the people most likely qualify for WIC. There are people that don’t qualify for free formula and rely on deals like this to make ends meet. I’m not saying that people’s hearts aren’t in the right places, just that you are quite possibly taking these free items from people who could really use them.

    • hi

I understand where you’re coming from because I don’t qualify for WIC and formula is a killer. Even though I just needed it to supplement it still broke my budget. So a deal like this would be awesome for mothers to get or for people to get and give to a friend they know that uses it.

      • Brenda

Yes!! I totally agree! I don’t need it, therefor I wouldn’t have ordered it even though I have prime. Why take away from someone who can actually use it?

        • A.K.

While I appreciate the sentiments, I ordered it and will be donating it. There is a great possibility that people who can’t make ends meet to buy their children formula most likely don’t have a $99 membership to Amazon prime

          • rose

A.K., i understand how you feel but the reason we get the membership is because of the discounts amazon provides on baby things. if not for that, we actually would not get it at all. also, Additionally, gerber does not send samples at all even if you call and ask about it. i have asked a few times and the only time i have ever gotten a sample for gerber is thru amazon mom. so the few times they have the sample box, i am grateful for it because it helps make my membership more worth it. our child has reflux on enfamil to the point where she would scream and cry because she is in pain but she is hungry. she also has an allergic reaction to similac which causes her to break out in a rash. those are two formula brands that always sends samples and coupons which gerber does not.

            • rose

the sample box we got while we were on trial is how we learned our child could eat it. it was really a hit or miss for us when we were switching formulas to try to find one that worked for her. the sample box helped save us the $17/18 it usually costs for a can. there is nothing more amazing than to hear you child laugh and happy after months of being in pain, projectile vomiting, etc.

            • rose

also toys, etc are amazingly cheaper on amazon than say, toys r us, target, etc. we watch the prices of toys we want for our kid months in advance and buy them when they are super cheap. it opens us up to a lot more things we would never have considered…like a ride on toy that usually costs $150, we got for $28. vtech walker $14 instead of $35. it pays for itself really…pack n play $30 vs say $60-80 elsewhere

          • jackie

thank you. I have grandkid soon to be adopted. I dont have prime because I cannot afford it., my daughter does she cannot afford the formula. gets no wic and she has a great job. not sure if she belongs to the club but had she I would have gotten it for her. I donate free stuff all the time. I live in a very rural area so I join every thing I can. like today I gave someone a 10.00 off of 40.00 at our only grocery store. and it was from a baby club. people should not tell people where they can or cannot donate. I also know another mom that was on vacation and ran out of formula for her baby. called me to see if I could find coupons to send her or get online so she could supplement while out of town. I help people with coupons and even shop for them to get the discounts. I would spend any amount of money on formula without trying a trial size to see if it works.

    • Amy

I ordered it even though I can’t use it and plan to ask around to find someone in need rather than a typical donation to an organization. While I get where you’re coming from, I feel like someone who is genuinely struggling to afford formula wouldn’t have the $100 prime account…..

      • Ashley

Except Amazon mom offers extreme discounts on other baby related items. That is an awful assumption. Especially since someone could have the prime membership before they have there child and it hasn’t run out yet.

    • Sarah

Exactly! That is why I passed on the deal. So that someone who uses this exact formula can receive it.

    • Lou

I ordered mine for my friend who doesn’t have prime. My insurance covers formula so if I used it I wouldn’t need it. When I got my free samples from the hospital I gave them all to my friends because I breastfeed.

  32. Nic

That’s a pretty ignorant thing to say. Amazon family offers 20% off diapers, so people that are struggling may find a way to pay the upfront fee in order to ultimately save money.

    • Brenda

My thoughts exactly! Let’s talk badly about people whom we think can’t afford formula for their baby or a prime membership and then donate the formula to those same people. I can tell you that people who make too much to qualify for WIC cannot necessarily afford formula. My husband makes too much to qualify for WIC, but that doesn’t mean we could necessarily afford formula at $27 a can. I know a lot of new moms that couldn’t qualify for WIC, but struggled to buy formula each month. Not qualifying for WIC and being able to afford formula are not synonymous. As far as Prime goes, I’m a student and get a discount and then I use my scholarship money to pay for the membership because in the long run, it saves me more than what I pay upfront.

  33. Aubrey

I was able to get one too, thanks Collin!

  34. SLA1981

I agree people who dont need it should just pass on it. People who have to buy formula would really be greatful for a free can.
As for people buying prime etc. I believe not to long you could sign up for free being a new mom between a certain time along with people in school i believe get a reduced rate (atleast a friend told me thats how they have it)

    • Aimee

Things get so heated over deals haha. Its def nice to have for ANYONE, I understand those who didnt get it this time around may be dissapointed, but ultimatley another good deal will come. No one person is wrong in however they choose to utilize this deal for themselves, all good hearts in good places. And actually, Amazon did just offer a free thirty day membership that would make this free deal good for all. Have a great new year everyone!!

      • Ashley

I wasn’t in anyway trying to start a heated argument, I was just wanting to post a point of view that others might not have thought about when getting this. It’s a sad truth that some people get things just because they are free and have them sitting around. I was simply stating that you don’t rob from Peter to pay Paul because it helps a person feel good about themselves. Have a great year too Aimee!!

    • carol

I usually buy formula on Craigslist, i make sure its sealed and non expired. Theres local facebook groups for moms and they do swamps. Ive gotten formula on clearance at grocery store and have swamped it.
