Does anyone know from experience how does it compare to the silhouette cameo?

    • Leah

Great question! We’ve used both and honestly… The cricut explore is just plain sturdier than the silhouette cameo. We like having something that we can trust to cut through the heavier materials. I have a small business and use it to make my hang tags, etc. rather than buying them from a designer.

I will never buy another cricut, or anything from Provo Craft for that matter. Worst machine I’ve ever owned. It seems like a great deal but there are so many extras you have to buy to have any creative functionality. Their support is dismal. And worse if you have a Mac. They told me the only way they could help me is if u went and bought a PC otherwise there was nothing they could do for me. Despite the fact that the product is sold stating that it works with Apple computers. There are better companies to go with. I own a knk zing myself and it was the best purchase I could have ever made. It does cost a little bit more but it’s worth saving for and investing in. I can cut more materials, have more functionality, more precision and no need to buy any extra junk ever.

Wondering also. I was thinking this might be cute for making designs on tshirts.. Any experience??

  3. Danielle

I’ve only got the Cameo but this question comes up a lot. From what experienced users say who own both, they go for the Cameo.

  4. Esther

Is this a good one? How expensive are the sheets of vinyl?

    • Danielle

Esther, look up Expressions Vinyl or The Vinyl Spectrum to see prices. They can range depending on the type of vinyl.

  5. Melissa

This is a great price. I don’t have one but have lots of friends who do. They all love theirs.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Sweet! Thanks so much for your feedback Melissa!

For what it’s worth, I got the Explore Air (which is the Wifi version of this one – but this can be Wifi with an additional adaptor) for Xmas and I LOVE it. I replaced my original Cricut with it and I’m not a “hardcore” hobbiest but like to make fun stuff for my home on the cheap and for friends. You can find supplies on sale all of the time and I have used mine to make super cute iron-ons for onesies that I got for free with Shop Your Way points for my 18month old. I’ve never used a Cameo, only Cricuts, so I don’t know from that. But I love it and can’t say enough things about my Explore Air.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Thanks for your review Holly!

I got the cricut air and don’t know one thing about it 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

Love mine I have the explore its amazing what you can do. This is a good deal. Vinyl is pretty cheap if you shop around. Tons of videos on YouTube on how to make things and just use the machine. Also they have AWESOME customer service.

      Sweet! Thanks for sharing!

We have this one and LOVE it! Almost a good enough price to buy another one!
    Best price I’ve seen.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Awesome!

Colin, I’ve been following hip2save for three years. My daughter is a special needs child (medical and developmental) and it’s been tough, emotionally, physically, and financially. Every time I need something and I happen to think about it, you and your team post a deal for it. Recently I’ve been wanting to buy a Cricut or silhouette that’ll give me a little me time. I couldn’t justify spending $200+ but for this price I spoiled myself 🙂 thank you so much for everything that you all do! <3

    • Kmc1021

As a mother of a special needs child, I’m glad you are able to find time for you. I know it’s hard to do, but it’s important. I’m pregnant and taking care of my daughter but try to spend a few minutes a week crafting to keep me sane.

      • Sammy

@kmc1021 you’re right… Even a few mins helps us keep our sanity. Best wishes to you on baby #2!

    • JA

      Enjoy your new toy!

      • Sammy

        Thank you 🙂

        • Holly

Sammy, my daughter is medically fragile and developmentally delayed, so I understand. I have used my Cricut to make her name signs for her hospital room when she was in for a prolonged stay (laminated with another deal found on this site), decor for her room, & more. So, even when I have “me time” it is still for her. Haha.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You are so welcome Sammy! So glad you were able to grab this for yourself! 😉

  11. Mary

I’m so excited… I have wanted a Cricut for years but could never afford it. I just ordered one! It’s an early birthday gift to myself haha yay! I can’t wait to get it. Thank you for sharing!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome!

I have a silhouette Cameo and I love it! I don’t know much about the cricut. I have a friend with one and I know she is unhappy with the price of cartridges you have to buy to cut certain things. With the silhouette software it’s very easy to find images from Google for free and make so many things on your own. I’m not sure that you can do that with the cricut. I also know that coupons at joanns and hobby lobby often exclude cricut brand but include silhouette. I think either way they are super fun machines!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Oh cool!

Bought a silhouette cameo 3 yrs ago, sold my cricut and never looked back. The cleversomeday blog has a comparison done between the cameo vs cricut for anyone who wants to Google it and compare the two though.

  14. Lynnsy

If you own an apple computer don’t expect any support from the company. There are far superior machines out there that will do more and last longer.

  15. Sandy

I bought the Cricut Explore air about 6 months ago. I’ve only been able to use it a handful of times since I purchased it (due to time constraints). However I felt it was super easy to use, thousands of images to choose from (via their library and google searches) so no need to purchase cartridges, and the variety of materials you can use make this machine a dream for any crafter. I think this great sale price make it even dreamier!
