Snap by Groupon

If you’re a Snap by Groupon member, be sure to make note of these upcoming changes! Starting March 1st, Snap will be expanding to include Groupon’s inventory of nearly 70,000 digital offers at top retailers in the United States and Canada. With this update, Snap will be transitioning from product-specific to retailer-specific promotions.

With that being said, if you have a balance of $20 or more, be sure to request a check before March 1st. If your balance is less than $20 on March 1st, you’re not entitled to request a check, but Snap will give you promotional Groupon Bucks in an amount equivalent to your Snap balance rounded up to the nearest $5. Those Groupon Bucks will expire on September 1st, 2016. Go here for more details.

I saw this the other day. I only have $5 in that account. I hope there is something I can use it on… and remember to use it before September.

  2. Stephanie Sitz

I hope it become more like Ibotta.

  3. Raea

I am happy they are doing this. I have had this app for awhile and only managed to accumulate 8.75. In a few weeks I will have $10 (since they are rounding to nearest $5) to use toward a groupon deal ( which I use often).

  4. K.

I’ve never liked Snap because it seems to take forever to accumulate everything. Not sure if this will be much of an improvement.

    • Yoli

I’m with you K. I do not like this app. Just keep it because I have $12. Was planning on cashing out IF I ever get to the $20 and uninstall. Now idk what I’m gna do.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks so much for your honest feedback.

  5. KimB

So if you have only redeemed one offer for 50cents, they will give you $5 credit? That sounds like a winner!

  6. K

So from my understanding after reading the above article and attached links is we have less than $20 and have a group on account we don’t have to do anything and the amount in our snap account will automatically be deposited into our group on account on March 1st?? Is that correct Colin? I tried to request a check as I first read on your post but if it is under $20 they won’t allow so after reading on if I am understanding correctly this will be the end result.

I also like that they will round my $6.50 up to $10 as I also use Groupon often and found it hard to accumulate much on the present Snap app

If you have a balance of $20 or more, you will need to request a check before March 1st. If your balance is less than $20 on March 1st, you’re not entitled to request a check, but will be given promotional Groupon Bucks in an amount equivalent to your Snap balance rounded up to the nearest $5. Hope that helps!

Finally I will get something from this app! I have had $18 for months. I found it difficult to accumulate anything as the offers disappeared quickly. If there is not significant improvement to the app I will be happy to get my $20 in Groupon credit and get rid of the app for good. I have only been keeping hold of it because I was so close to cashing out!

    • Yoli

Same here 😩. Terrible app! In MY opinion!

  8. Lindak

Same problem. I’ve been at $9 for months and would love a Groupon credit. Snap Has so few items it was impossible to earn b

    • K

Or weird items/brands I’ve never seen I’ll take my $10 in groupon credit!

  9. Heather

I just went to check how much I had banked and my balance is at $1. I know that’s not accurate lol. The app is so horrible!

  10. Neha

Lucky me. 😊 I just now checked and I have 23 bucks in my account so I can request a check. I believe I started using it from the time Colleen posted it for the first time.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet!

  11. kw

I was able to cash out about 2 months ago. I had done really well on Snap prior to the last 6 months. After that it was fewer offers & ones that I’d never use. So in the last 2 months, I have remained at a zero balance. Can’t say that I use groupon a lot —and still waiting for my $ back from the groupon class action law suit btw….
Likey, the app will just be deleted, but I will see how it works & what it offers when it does transition.

    • Elizabeth

There is suppose to be a final approval hearing for the settlement this month, that’s what I read.

  12. GA

I’ve never used Groupon… wonderful… something new to learn how to use…

  13. ercin13

I have $15.75 in my account. I guess I better get to Snapping because I don’t want want know groupon bucks for the money I spent on trying to get my total up to $20. Not a fair deal if you ask me, they should give the option of requesting a check before March 1st, regardless of the monetary value. I’m done w/ Snap.

    • Yoli

      I agree!

  14. Shannon

I have $13 but there’s no way I can get up to $20 before mar 1st. There’s barely any offers to redeem and the ones that are there I’ve never even seen at the grocery store. Worst app ever!

  15. Jamie P.

I have $13.25 in my account. I was only keeping it open hoping to one day get to $20 and then cash out and get rid of the app. I’ll be happy to take the $15 in groupon credits just to be done with it. This app fell so far short of the other cash back sites like Ibotta. I’m surprised they kept it going this long honestly.

    • Brandy

      Same same!

  16. m

At the bottom of the email I received, It also states that they will automatically turn your Snap account into a Groupon account. You can opt out of that action by clicking the link in the email.

  17. Jessica

I never use Snap anymore but I know I had $7.50… Now I go back and check and I only have $5.50 so now I’ll only get $5. So annoying. Won’t be using it after I get my Groupon bucks.

  18. Angela

I’m kind of surprised by some of the feedback here. It’s true that there are relatively few offers on Snap. But the ones there are often very high-value, and often have no limits–you can redeem the same offer as many times as you want. So if you can combine a Snap offer with something that is a gas points deal or something like that at the grocery store, you can end up with a huge moneymaker. Even better if it is also an offer on Ibotta or Savingstar. That just happened the other week–Pop Secret was a gas deal item at Giant, and was part of a Savingstar rebate, and was a Snap rebate. Snap has never been my favorite rebate app, but when a deal hits on it, it tends to be a really good one.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Thanks for sharing Angela!

  19. Heather

I already deleted my account. Cashed out a few weeks ago – so my balance was zero anyways. I scored big when they has those high dollar Huggies rebates….

  20. Susie

I’m actually relieved to see the change. My balance has been at $10.95 for months now. I had given up on ever seeing a $20 balance to be able to cash out. At least I can use the $$ at Groupon starting next month.

  21. trace

When it first came out I was getting money back on gallons of milk, etc. which was great. Then it turned into offering weird products and organic condoms or something that I never buy! I hope they improve and expand the product selection. Ibotta has like right now between my local grocery store and Walmart 100-170 offers! Snap on my account is showing under 20 items….

  22. Faith

Just looked and requested a check ($23.55) and it says I’ve gotten $48.05 since joining so I’ll take it. I agree it wasn’t a frequently used app of mine, but in the beginning the offers were really good sometimes! And they had some bonuses I was able to get a few times, so overall – I’ll take it with a smile! I particularly liked the deals with no limits on quantity! None of the other apps let me redeem an offer on each of the 5 of an item I might buy…

  23. JA

Yeah, I was thinking about cashing out and deleting anyway, so this seals it for me.

  24. mel

Was wondering why I got a ping from them the other day that my acct had enough to request a check! $23.75 coming my way!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet!

  25. debra

I have never liked this app. Cashed out last year and have never used it since. I love ibotta.

  26. HBee

So glad I just cashed out. I guess we will see what’s to come!

  27. Paige

I really liked the app a whole lot last year I’ve managed to get $193.75 back from snap I sure hope I get more money back when it updates!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Wow! That’s awesome!

  28. Mom2Two

I went on to check my balance and it said $18, which is what it has been stuck at for months and months. Then it refreshed and said my balance is $12. I looked at the terms of use and evidently they start charging you $2/month if you don’t cash out within a certain time frame. Maybe if they had decent deals I would have cashed out sooner, but I don’t need organic condoms!!

  29. Unknown

talk about being $crewed over I’m suppose to travel 500 miles to use Groupon junk offers

  30. lisa

From what I read it is turning more like a coupon app like retailmenot. .. not that they are giving you rebates. They refer to their coupon section on the Groupon site as an example of what it will be like. Seems like the more of these rebate apps that come up. ..the not so popular ones are having a hard time securing good product rebates. …I haven’t redeemed a product on this app in months.

  31. Tracey K

Awesome (NOT). My balance is $14.60 so not enough to cash out and I only get $15 groupon bucks — wow a huge .40 bonus. While Snap hasn’t had an offer I’ve been interested in lately, I was hoping eventually they would have something I could use to get up to $20 to cash out again. I don’t use Groupon but I guess I’ll find something to spend the $15 on and be done with Snap altogether. I checked out the “coupons” page they linked to and it doesn’t look like something I would use, unless it changes dramatically.

    • Tracey K

Well, I ended up buying Clif bars at Walmart to get over $20. I didn’t really WANT Clif bars lol, but I’m sure they won’t go to waste and I felt it was better to spend a little money and get a check than refrain from spending and get a Groupon certificate I would never use. =)

  32. Lisa

On Friday I bought the Orchard Valley Harvest bags that were listed on Snap on Thursday. When I got home Friday evening I pulled up Snap to send in my receipt and both Orchard Valley offers were gone. They weren’t marked “All Gone,” they had just simply disappeared. Now I have spent over $5 for something I would not have otherwise bought, and I still don’t have my money from Snap.

  33. mindy marengo

did anyone ever get their “groupon bucks”

    • Lindsey

      I didn’t
