I didn’t know they make swim leggings

  2. Cassandane

Hmmm if they fit well, leggings might be nice on a cooler am day or comfy when keeping up w little ones at the pool/beach. I do loooove the kaftan dresses! Perfect for a tiki party 🙂

    • Katie

Or to a water park where you’re walking around/climbing stairs all day!

  3. Laura

As much as I love the idea of being able to cover up problem areas, I like the idea of getting some color on my legs more 🙂 I think i’ll pass on this and opt for a summer tan instead. Love the patterns though!

  4. Megann

I went to the beach one year in Delaware and it was cooler than normal and jelly fish were everywhere. We wore night pants in the ocean to avoid stings. These would have been great for that!

However I Wouldn’t wear them on a normal day to swim.

  5. Tasha

I’m really loving the piece in the middle but it’s not on the site to purchase:/

    • Alma

You would need to buy the one piece reg swimsuit and the leggings separate. Together they make that swimsuit in the middle pic.

  6. denise

I am a swimmer and have never seen these. I like the idea but would have to try them before i give any comments on them. Im wondering if they would slow you down

    • Paige

For competitive swimming, these would slow you down. They do have fastskin leggings, that are supposed to help you go faster. I used to see them at swim meets. I had fastskins, but not the leggings, so I’m not sure how they feel while swimming laps.

  7. Tiffany

I can see them for diving or snorkeling but, everyday use for me no. (I like to sun tan)
Some religions these are great because these can provide the coverage that is needed and still being fashionable.

So, it all depends on your circumstances.

    • Just Me

I don’t think those religions would allow skin tight legging. Wouldn’t it be too shapely?

      • Kristy

I agree. Still not modest if it’s skin tight.

      • Heather C.

Clingy, but MUCH better than half naked!

      • Shan

very Shapley indeed, forbidden in my religion, we should wear large and compact (not transparent)

      • RZ

That’s up to each individual’s interpretation of what it means to be “modest” (which is obviously going to be subjective). Not all conservative Christians or Jews or Muslims dress the same way for that reason.

I’m Muslim and I wear a headscarf…so while I obviously can’t wear a bikini, I can certainly wear these w/ a long swim shirt, instead. That’s no different from me wearing a pair of leggings w/ a dress, which is how I often dress. Modesty is a part of my faith, but there’s no rule against practicality and comfort either!

        • m

only part of what you said is right, everyone may interpret modest clothes as he like and also can wear what he wants, however that doent make it right! like shan said this legging is not suitable for muslim women, for the fact that its really tight, and its only as if you painted your legs and not cover them, muslim clothes for women should not be transparent, tight or short ( showing skin ) however

          • RZ

If everyone can interpret modest clothing as per their own judgment, then why do you get to decide what is “right” and “wrong”? Only God is the Judge so leave it to Him…He surely doesn’t need you to speak on His behalf and tell someone that their choice of modest clothing just isn’t good enough. Worry about yourself and not what’s “suitable” for other Muslim women to do.

And FYI you can’t actually swim in clothing that’s not somewhat fitted or lightweight, especially if you’re trying to keep up with your kids.

    • Shan

They are to tight 😉 which is forbidden in my religion, i swim with my whole cloths on me hhh, in my country which is normal, but here I don’t know perhaps for safety’s purposes, it’s forbidden to get in water with cloths??!!

      • Faith

I swim in my clothes as well! Modesty is important to me 🙂

  8. SLS

Love them! Very helpful for covering up to avoid sun damage and burn!

    • burgy

Agree here, I love not being burnt 🙂

      • Luv

        👍

  9. animity

LOVE! I am super fair so I always try to cover up as much as possible in the sun so these are perfect! Definitely will have to try these out!

  10. Susan

I LOVE these! I am 60 years old, and even though I’m thin, NOBODY likes to look at crepey, old skin! Plus they come in cute patterns and protect against UV rays…I’m a buyer!

    • MrsFelix1004

Skin is like the magazine cover you just glance at it. It matters what is on the inside. So don’t be so hard on yourself. I know easier said than done because I don’t like the look of my skin either but it is the least of my concern.

  11. Alma

I woke up and read this an am like “April fools again?” 🙈🙈🙈 wow I don’t know how I feel about swim leggings

    • Amber

I seriously thought the SAME thought as you. And 25$ for leggings??? I thought April fools for sure.

      • rebecca

i know, $25 is unbelievably cheap for swimwear, right? often you get less coverage than this for about $80 in swimsuits.

  12. Rae

Maybe , I would have to try them on and see how they fit. I am thin, athletic, young, and HATE showing too much! Most swim suits cover less than under garments. So I end up with a shirt over it. I LOVE that there are more modest options for swimwear.

    • Rae

      A shirt and/or beach pants.

    • kanna

Agreed! More options for ppl who don’t want to bare it all! Religious or just personal preference!

  13. m

Don’t like the patterns. I think that unless you are very thin that the large, bold patterns would give an unflattering look and exaggerate problem areas. Solid colors would be better.

    • Melanie

      I agree

    • Happymama

      I’m with you here!

    • Dealzgurl

I agree. I personally think no one should wear leggings of any kind—I know, my friends think that’s crazy too….however, the pool I swim at keeps the water cold so these would be great if they provided a level of warmth. I’d prefer solid colors though.

      • Emily

I thought that I was alone is my complete hatred of leggings. No one should wear them. Ever.

        • rebecca

so if you needed coverage from the sun, you would wear baggy pants to swim just because you are unable to purchase any leggings for any reason? or you think naked legs is more acceptable than leggings for coverage? that doesn’t make any sense to me.
where jellyfish are a problem, or sun sensitivity due to a prescription, or rashiness & irritation from boogie boards and sand, do you think swimming in jeans or pajama pants is a better option? i think fitted swimwear is better in all these cases. it will be less drag, more comfortable, and dry faster, plus better UV protection.
i have used board shorts and swim trunks on my daughter and myself in the past, but they are often not long enough to protect the whole thigh from sunburns and board rash, and do nothing for protecting the bottom of the leg from the sun or creatures.

      • L.

Why do you care what other people wear. It’s not really up to you. Don’t like them don’t buy them.

        • Dealzgurl

As a matter of fact, I don’t buy them, lol. 😊 Glad to know I’m not the only one who feels that way about leggings, though. Everyone I know loves them.

        • rae

Easy, now – the title of this post asks “Do YOU love them or hate them?” so let’s be respectful of others’ opinions.

          • RZ

If someone can say something like, “nobody should ever wear leggings” and that’s a valid opinion to have…then why is it not a valid opinion to say “what others wear should be none of your concern, and you’re free not to buy them if you hate them”? That wasn’t disrespectful at all…at least not more than telling people what they shouldn’t be allowed to wear lol.

  14. Jennifer

    HATE

  15. cindy

Hmm not sure. i’m too hefty for these. It wouldn’t be a pretty sight. However, my daughters will be all over this.

  16. Patty

    Absolutely not

  17. Hannah

I will have to check these out! I love sun protection! I am very into health and fitness, so I think these would allow you to also feel comfortable getting a workout in while at the beach or pool. Also, these would be great for at a water park.

  18. car

i am vry fair and live in the tropics.my family has skin cancer history.i swim every morning and most mornings with the spf leggings.i hate the way they feel.but i think it would be foolish of me not to take advantage of them.however the leggings pictured from target look like clown clothes and i loathe them.mine are some jeanswear brand i found in tj’s last summer.

  19. Mel

As a very pale person, I never tan–I burn! so I love this idea. my son and husband always wear long sleeved rash guards but I have trouble finding one that will fit my boobs. So hopefully this is a step in that direction. I’d definitely try these. If you’ve ever been burnt to the point of blisters, you do anything to avoid that happening again.

    • Jen

Lands End makes long sleeve swim tees, that are my favorite. I’m well endowed and they don’t make swimsuit tops in my cup size so I pair a bra with a swim tee and works great.

    • Juju

I ordered a long sleeve rash guard last summer from Coolibar (or it might have been called a swim shirt, they have various styles). I LOVE IT! Great quality and it goes down onto my hand to provide sun protection for the back of my hands. I had a hard time finding that in a womens rash guard. But Coolibar has a lot of great styles. They seem to have an end-of-summer big sale every year around August or September. I looked at sale prices and promo codes. Great company and great clearance!

  20. Salma

I think I like them from the pic and would consider buying them. I am a little shy about my stretch marks and esp cellulite on my thighs to wear shorts. I am 5 ft 3 135 lbs . Have always been embarrassed by cellulite even before I had kids which was really minimal but now I have more all over my thighs

  21. Tracy

My kid is a competitive swimmer and this is great news! She wears leggings with her suit during practice and training. The extra drag makes you feel lighter the competition. I always buy crazy looking spandex type but this would be easier and free shipping with my red card.

  22. Lolie

I thought this was a joke! How interesting! 😳

  23. Shannon

No way. I love the sun!

  24. layla

I think it is a great idea…not for everyday. Maybe colder swim days, or even for those who have skin issues and can not be in the sun all day.

  25. Gail

    Love them.

  26. fiya

I like to cover my body and so i wear leggings for swimming and so ofcourse i love this idea

  27. LauraL

I can see people wearing these if it’s a cool day at the beach or for regular swim times.
But my guess is these will be worn by insecure people who don’t have model perfect legs. It would be sad to see people suffering at the beach on a hot day just because they feel “no one wants to see their legs”.

  28. babymair

I LOVE this idea.. ill b buying these for r water park in pa ..It always opens early and is so cold. Thx Collin . ! Keep up the good work.!

  29. FuzzyPeach73

Good idea for those wanting sun protection, especially with skin cancer concerns/family history. I am always looking for good rash guards for my toddlers and I, but women’s rash guards are SOOO expensive!

    • Danielle

Lands end runs clearances in July, I got 2 for 11.99 each for me. And they have talls so they cover a bit of my bottom.

  30. Andrea

    No way!!

  31. L

I just have to pop in and say something. I saw in a lot of the comments women were talking about wearing them because of areas of their body they feel insecure about. Every single one of you are beautiful!! I totally get wanting to cover insecurities, but don’t think that people are going to be horrified by your knees or whatever. You’re all valuable and absolutely gorgeous in your own unique way.

    • Sandra

      ❤️❤️❤️

  32. Carla

LOVE this! Finally I could feel comfortable in swimwear! Even though I’m usually a size 4/6 (but pregnant now) and work out often to stay toned, I never felt comfortable having all my legs exposed at the pool.

  33. Karen

Many sizes and prints are already out of stock so it seems the world gives them a thumbs up! I’ll be curious whether I actually see any at the beach this summer!

  34. Anita

I am headed to Akumal, Mexico to swim with the turtles and should defiantly bring these but not in those crazy patterns. I’ll keep looking for a more subdued color.

  35. divaofqpons

I saw them in my local Target this morning…not impressed. The dresses and long kaftans are just regular bedsheet cotton.Dang…I ordered them on line before I went into the store.#returns

  36. Samantha

I personally feel like they could be a pain to take off once they get wet

  37. Maria

    LOVE!!!!

  38. Rachel

Ummm I really hope these come into style… After four kids I have stretch marks to my knees, but because I’m in shape and thin, I hate that I feel bad about myself whenever I go to the beach (which is often because we live in Florida). This would be SO perfect.

  39. MommySpendsLess

I can see the advantages in certain situations thanks to previous posters but I can’t see myself wearing them. Maybe it’s because I’ve grown up in Florida but summer means exposed skin (to a point, I prefer my suits relatively modest and insist on takinins for my daughter). I prefer the deck or sand to water, except quick dips to cool off. It sounds uncomfortable to have wet material clinging to my legs and wet, sandy material sounds even worse! If I were to ever want a pair, i think I’d want a subdued, solid color. I’m just not comfortable in prints, especially high contrast, large scale ones.

  40. TD

oh. my. god. i thought this was a joke. i think leggings are incredibly inappropriate for anyone older than 20 or so…unless wearing under something longer that covers your butt & thighs…but at the pool – why? this is going to cause health problems laying out in the sun with leggings on…like that girl in the news who nearly died from lack of ventilation wearing skinny jeans. dont get me started…lol…

  41. Kathy

These might be a great option for my daughter who has sun allergies. She already uses sun-tees so these might be a good addition. And for me, they might make me want to swim again.

  42. lissa crane

Love them! Not only will they cover a myriad of “issues” related to being over forty & having given birth to four children, but they would be great to prevent sunburn!

  43. ert

Yay! My personal modesty policy is to cover to wrists and knee. These look fun! Much better than having to find shorts to match my suit. Now I can cover up and still have fun!

  44. Juju

Yes, to all H2S readers who don’t know- swim leggings or swim tights are real and important to many. Skin cancer sufferers and many other people with various skin conditions can be told by Dermatology that they MUST cover their skin when out, especially when you live somewhere like Arizona or Florida. People have to do this every day. Also there are gloves for driving or golf (hands), and shirts with coverage to the neck, etc. It’s not only about fashion, or comfort, or “modesty” choices. I guess they are trying to make these “fun” and “hip” with the patterns. I’m glad a retailer like Target is selling sun protection clothing.

  45. Elisa

I leave in a beach town near the ocean and a waterpark, and six flags great adventure and i have seen girls wearing leggings all the time to go in the ocean and to the waterparks. I think this is a great idea

  46. amy

But these aren’t UV infused, I wouldn’t wear them for medical purposes.

    • Juju

I haven’t seen these particular leggings from the post yet, but any clothes with a tight weave and especially darker colors (for example, choose a (preferably dark) or colored tighly-woven shirt or leggings over a gauzy white shirt) are good for blocking UV rays. UV-infused SPF protection clothing is great, but long sleeved shirts and pants are great, too. And for those who need to cover their skin, or don’t want to use sunblock (or can’t), or especially for an all day sun exposure, using clothing to block the UV rays is a very wise choice. Sometimes you can even wear sunblock and wear tightly-woven clothes or a rash guard and hat. Especially for an all day UV exposure in a blazing hot and bright place. And of course, be mindful of getting sweaty or wet, as that reduces sunblock effectiveness, and some clothing gets see through.

      • Juju

        Ooops I meant “SPF-infused” not “UV infused,” that was a slip-up. 🙂

  47. Happymama

Some pools woldnt allow them anyway. I’d hate for people to be turned down when entering.

  48. Rachmeist

Ummm yeesss! I love regular leggings to begin with, and to have these for the beach would be great for those last minute trips when the kiddo is begging to go and I do not feel like shaving the legs and bikini line! Can’t wait to get some.

Btw, I’m 30 and I rock the hell out of leggings TYVM! 😉 Wear what you want and love yourself!

  49. Bethany

IMHO it’s better to buy UPF clothing. (It will have a rating.) It’s more expensive but so worth it if you want clothing that is actually rated to protect you in the sun.

I’m glad someone else posted about the quality of the fabric for other Merrimekko stuff. Saves me a trip to target. Then again, when Target sells a famous brand, the stuff is always cheaper. My family is Finnish and I’ve owned actual quality Merrimekko stuff since I was a kid. I’ll pass on the Target-for-masses items from this brand.

  50. FabulousJess

I’m excited that these are available. I’m uncomfortable in swimwear due to being overweight and having large breast. I’m definitely going to purchase this
