This program isn’t worth joining anymore.
Stars expire after 6 months. Casual “regular” coffee drinkers will have a hard time getting /keeping gold status.

    • Caroline

Yep. I agree. I always used to just get regular coffee and get a pastry w my star reward. Now it will take me months. I don’t care for their sweet drinks :/
New program sucks and I don’t go there as much now.

  5. Meredith

My referral code is MVWRTW8YS if anyone would like to use it. Thanks!

I have an account, but am having so much trouble logging in. I’ve requested a new password, but nothing. My birthday is tomorrow, and I would like to enjoy a birthday treat! 😊

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Darn! Are you on a mobile device? If not maybe try in a different browser. Hoping that helps! Happy Birthday! 😉

    • JJ

I would call their 800 number!

    • Ph

Not being negative or sarcastic here, but I am very curious….. When this new program was first posted here, one of Collins’ readers did the math and figured a person would have to spend over $60 to qualify for the “free” drink. I’m interested in what all you thrifty people are purchasing at Starbucks that makes it worth the price? I go to Starbucks as a treat once every 3 months or so.

    • illjustwingit

I get coupons from target and sometimes I like to just treat my husband and myself once a week. Sometimes when I save lots at target, I get a little treat 😬

    • Monica

I buy packaged coffee and earn my stars that way which I use for free rewards in store.

      • illjustwingit

I did that before, but lost out cause somebody keeps opening the boxes and takes the codes 😒

    • Susie

Sue, I don’t spend enough at Starbucks to get free stuff either, but I love the convenience of the app. That’s why I have a registered card. With the app you can order and pay on your phone, skip the register and go directly to pick up. Fantastic for times you know the lines will be long.

    • Tricia

Here are some ways I rack up stars without spending so much out of pocket:
Groupon offers $5 for a $10 Starbucks card once or twice a year. Buy one and ask your non-coffee loving friends to get them for you as gifts. Transfer the balance of these e-gift cards to your main gift card/GOLD card or link to your name via your dashboard. It’s like getting 50% off the items you purchase later.
Use coupons on Starbucks bagged coffees or other products in their grocery store line that offer bonus stars. During a good sale I’ve been able to snag items for around $2 each. Starbucks also had a deal recently that gave a $5 Starbucks e-giftcard when you purchased three participating items and submitted your receipt.
Save these Star bonus codes until you get an email about a star dash on these items. Recently I submitted 4 star codes (2 per day) for an extra 16 stars – that was enough for a free treat of my choice. So I spent around $8 for 4 bags of coffee, plus a $5 drink. Thanks pretty good saving!
Join Ibotta, they have had rebates on Starbuck’s line of grocery products in the past. Also, you can cash out for a Starbucks gift card if you choose.

I’m an every 2-3 months get a cup of Starbucks brewed coffee and the occasional (1-2x per year) special drink when out with a friend kind of girl. Yes, Starbucks new program is not as great for me to get stars when I pay in store, but I think I can still keep GOLD status and enjoy a few free perks and deals by continuing the above methods.

If you found this info useful I would love it if you decided to sign up under my referral link. Thanks!:

I found mine once I tried to share the link on Facebook and Twitter. Once you share it on one of those sites the link pops up underneath, italicized, and they say – ‘here is your referral link’ or some wording similar to that…
    🙂

      Just used Stephanie 🙂

  14. JP

I agree with Tricia about all the ways you can get cheap or free Starbucks. It is all much easier with a gold card. We’ll see if there are still so many easy ways to earn rewards with the new program. If you’d like to join, I’d be delighted if you used my referral link:

    https://refer.starbucks.com/share/et4uw

  15. Jenn

It looks like you can only earn referrals rewards 2x per day, according to the email terms and conditions. So, maybe when we use a referral link above, note that you used it for everyone to see and maybe we can get everyone’s referral links used. If anyone would like to use mine, it is https://refer.starbucks.com/share/s44sy.
Thank you in advance and I hope everyone has a great night!

  16. sara

Where do you find your referral link?

    • Shel

Sara: I searched in my account (on my phone) with no luck… Finally thought to check my email, and there was a link (@ the very bottom of the email) to click on. Hopefully that will save you some time 🙂

I just downloaded this using a link from here. I have a digital card now. Do I have to add money to it to use it and receive my first reward? Or is it like a CC I have to pay the balance of eventually?

    • teacherthatcoupons

Kalynn-you will need to add money to the card. I usually add it using the Starbucks app. You can add any amount. You will get a free drink on your birthday. I hope that helps.
