Yes ! I love these I’m slowly replacing my plastic and can never find Pyrex at goodwill (probably because it’s so awesome who Would donate it! )

I feel like an alarmist but I’m not trying to be, keep that in mind.
I have had some of these square dishes and I tried baking in one once. Just as I’d done with all my older Pyrex, and it exploded in the oven. According to all the info I’ve found, Pyrex changed their formula for their glass from what worked and was very stable for years, to a cheaper less stable one. I had done something wrong while handing the new pan and that was pouring boiling hot cooked apples into the pan and then sticking it in the oven. It was only going to bake long enough to brown the topping I put on it. Unfortunately it got half way through and WHAM it sounded like some one hit the inside of my oven with a hammer. If you’ve used Pyrex for a long time, be careful with the new (2010ish and newer) pans they have a new set of handling rules. There are stories of them exploding while the food is cooling on the counter, I’m thankful mine was in the oven.

Thanks for the reminder. I read about the exploding Pyrex in the oven. I guess I’ll stick with my old Pyrex for baking and these new babies will just be for storage in the fridge, instead of plastic containers.

There is another brand from Brazil that last I knew they still use the old formula and you can find them on Amazon I believe Marinex is the brand

    • Rae

And for those curious, yes it blew up! The biggest piece was the bottom of the pan and a1″ x4″ shard the rest were slivers! I had to wait until the oven cooled to clean it up and the once molten lava of apples and sugar had solidified to rock mixed with glass.

for people who are scouting for the “old” pyrex with the good formula at thrift-shops etc, the old pyrex brand had all capital letters whereas the new sold brach that now makes the pans and uses the questionable formula is all lowercase letters…there s still good though for fridge!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh bummer! Thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry to hear your dish exploded!

  5. Nicole

Yes, Pyrex always advertises the number of pieces counting the lids. I’ve probably bought 7 or 8 sets over the years and it’s still a good price ($2.25 per container).

  17. Bobbi

I’ve been looking to replace my plastic storage containers, so I ordered one set of these and one set of the glass mixing bowls, so I would have some larger dishes as well. Thanks!
