Positive Comments from Hip2Save Readers:

I researched over two dozen different sites and this one was the best. I even made an expensive script purchase, went home printed the discount coupon, took it back to Walgreens and they refunded me the difference. The script was about $145 I got back about $95. Awesome site.

Love GoodRx’s app. My husband and I have been without insurance for a few months while waiting for the insurance from his new job to kick in (they wait 90 days). One of my prescriptions alone would have been $150. It went down to about $20 with their Rx code. Couldn’t believe it. Highly, highly recommend. Also, shop around the next time you need an MRI, etc. because the hospital is generally one of the most expensive places to get one.

I highly recommend GoodRx. We are a family of 4 on one income, and my twins are too little to go to school so I stay home with them. With the rising cost of insurance, it would eat up too much of our income so I opt without. The downside is having to pay full cost for medicine. BUT with GoodRx I am able to still get my medications at a fraction of the cost. I love how it shows the local pharmacies and how much it will be. It does change from month to month and often times I combine it with those coupons where you get a gift card for a transferred prescription. Double bonus!

I just started the Advair Disques and with insurance it was going to be $270! I used GoodRx and got it free. Not sure what it will be after this month but its showing free still.

I agree. I have been without insurance also because of the cost. But my daughters perscription was to be $350 a month. Her pediatrician recommended this site to try when filling it. I did and it brought it down to $75! I was so thankful for that. I knew it had to be legit and good if a doctor was recommending it.

So happy to hear that it helped you save so much! Thanks for the feedback!

I have to comment on how awesome GoodRx was to my family. My mother lost her insurance shortly after finishing her breast cancer chemo. She needed to take a daily hormone pill for 5 years and the cost for 180 pills was close to $1000. After doing some research online i was able to get the same pills for under $90 thanks to GoodRx! I highly recommend it as well!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awesome to hear that you could save so much on her prescription!! Thanks for sharing your experience!!

  3. jen

When I attempted to use good rx at my local walmart 3 months ago I was told they are no longer participating with good rx or any discount savings programs. So be sure to call the pharmacy and ask.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for sharing Jen! Good to know!

  4. Gail La Bruno

Just one more affirmation. I had a prescription that Costco was going to charge $300 for. I got it through GoodRX for $23. This site is truly worthwhile!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet! 🙂

I’m so glad you posted this! I got a prescription for my dog at Target that was regularly over $100. While researching the cost for the medication at local pharmacies, I came across the GoodRX card, so I brought it into Target pharmacy. Not only did did the pharmacist know about it, but using the card actually saved us over $75.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Perfect!

  6. Tiffany

This is a great program! I’ve used it to save hundreds on my father in laws medications. So important on such a tight budget

  7. Kari Benedettini

Wow thanks for posting! I had no idea about! Totally going to check out!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome!

Want to add my praise to the heap… We were w/o insurance for about 3 months late last year, and a prescription my husband badly needed would have been in the $200 – $300 range. Signed up for GoodRX on the internet, and called it in to Von’s… Paid $25 for it! We’re still having it filled there every month.

  9. Ash

I use this website regularly for my self pay patients. Make sure your doc writes the Rx the exact same as the coupon, quantity and concentration. It will be kicked out at the pharmacy otherwise

  10. pandoraaddict

In addition to Good Rx, AAA and others have a savings card. Some rx’s have their own programs, some have pay no more than x amount cards, others their own pharmacy handles/covers it. If the doc doesn’t give any discount info with script, ask if there are any. If you have a few savings ways, the pharmacy can run them all through to find the lowest cost, but need to ask them to do this.

  11. ❌Fran

I always use this app when traveling

  12. Annie

Sams & Walmart do not participate. I called Good RX they said they are still participating but accourding to pharmacist no go. Also to note some pharmacies will NOT use it for narcotics. Its too bad. Other drugs are covered. I have used this at Costco for narcotics. Thank you Collin for all your help saving us money.

    • Heather C.

I hate to go there… But maybe it’s a good thing they don’t allow narcotics to be filled using this program. Narcotics are so overused and abused in this country… its ridiculous. I almost lost my husband to them after he was in a bad car accident in 2007. Broke all but 2 inches of his spine, his neck, and all his ribs. Was lucky to be alive, and SUPER lucky to not be paralyzed. (Surgeon said he was 1mm away from severing his spinal cord) Anyway, he became addicted to them after doctors continued to carelessly prescribed narcotic pain killers to him instead of FIXING the underlying cause of his chronic pain. And once all the problems were “fixed” he should have been weaned off of them, closely monitored by his doctor. Never happened. He kept taking more and more, then he’d run out of what he was prescribed so we ended up completely broke because he spent all our money buying them off the street (from acquaintances he made from mutual narcotic addicts), overdoses and middle of the night trips to the hospital for narcan to keep him from dying followed… Our 2 daughters were seeing way too much stuff they shouldn’t have to see. They’d try and wake their daddy up when he was passed out on the couch, to no avail… Completely tore our family apart. I hung on as long as I could, trying to shelter our children and keep our marriage, but we ended up divorcing from 2010 until 2013- when we got remarried after he became sober. I should also add that he nearly died from withdrawls coming off the narcotics. He didn’t eat or drink a drop of anything for 11 days. His body almost shut down. I’m sure there is a need for these drugs… maybe only in hospitals or clinics or the like… but I just beyond hate them for what they did to our family, and I wish pharaceutical companies and doctors would really crack down on what they prescribe them for and who they prescribe them to. But it’ll probably never happen. There’s way too much money in it. A side note-I had 4 c-sections where my insides, muscles, and organs were cut and litterally TORN open and never needed a narcotic. I never once suffered with unbearable pain either, and I definitely do not have a high tollerance for pain! Sorry for such a long winded rant… Anytime narcotics are mentioned around me I get pretty fired up.

How does this work exactly if you have insurance? For instance I just bought tazorac Creme and paid $75 with insurance but retail was $360 when I plug the drug in the app it says best price $317. Does that mean by benefits would look at the $317 price instead of the $360 retail? None of the Rx prices on the app are better than what I pay but they are slightly cheaper than the retail price my Rx states. Does this only benefit the non insured?

    • pandoraaddict

Good RX is in lieu of insurance, can’t be combined. Most brand names do have a savings card, the ‘pay no more than’ ones – the low amount is for the insured, in its terms a higher oop amount for non-insured.

      • pandoraaddict

Retail prices are contracted and vary by place. If your insurance says $360 that’s the price it’s going by.

  14. Jessica

We had to get TDAP shots while pregnant. Our insurance covered it, but Puerto Rico Walgreens refused to accept. Pulled out the app and knocked a good $40 each for me and my husband.

  15. Debora

HI, if I am reading their page correctly you can opt to use this even if you have insurance. I have insurance (looking for my also for my mom who is on medicare) but the co pays on somethings are really high. especially some allergy meds. Is there anyone that has used this with insurance? Any comments on how it works would be much appreciated.

    • Riss

I wanna know, too, if and how this works for people who have insurance. Thanks.

    • Luna

I am a pharmacist . Good RX is a discount card and in my state it is illegal to discount co-pays, so if you already have insurance we cannot use a discount card to decrease your co-pay. So I suppose it depends on the laws in the state in which you reside.

  16. Rebecca

Going to show this to my mom in case she hasn’t seen it. I’m so beyond grateful I pay nothing out of pocket for my meds…MS meds can average $50K-$60K a year! Insane.

  17. Sarah

In my experience this only works for people without insurance. I just had to fill a prescription recently that was almost $300. I have insurance but extremely high deductible. My options were to pay a slightly cheaper price with the go to RX or get through my insurance and have that count towards my deductible. I went through my insurance. It’s kind of frustrating to pay for insurance and then end up paying more for prescription and somebody who’s not paying for insurance. I think it’s great it’s there to help people without insurance but it should help people with insurance too.

  18. Robin

Many pharmacies may not accept these cards because I’ve been told that they do not get paid from the coupon company. Meaning if they pay $100 for a medication and the coupon says you pay $25 the pharmacy is not getting paid and that money is coming out of their pocket.

    • maggie

GoodRX negotiates with mfr and retail chain to bring costs down, by offering huge volume. There’s no “reimbursement” because these are the prices the mfrs and chains have contracted to sell for in order to get a good “ranking” in the GoodRX search. It’s simply the deal they made.

  19. Darcy

My mom has Medicare but no prescription drug coverage. I was paying $300 month for her pain meds related to cancer for her. Someone at the hospital recently gave her this card and we have used it at Costco and cvs. She had an infection and was prescribed augmentin. The price dropped for $300 to $56 with this card!

  20. K

We are very fortunate to have employer provided insurance but this is a great program for those that don’t. I’m glad this is out there to save some people money. Big Pharma continues to charge ridiculous prices for medications that people can’t live without. My hubby takes meds for Crohn’s and a 3 month supply at regular price is $6000. With insurance it’s $40.

  21. maggie

I’ve used this many times with pet meds — antibiotics, eye drops, etc. prescribed by the vet that were actually the same as human meds, and thus fillable at the pharmacy counter. It often cuts the cost of the pet meds in half.

  22. Sharon

Just used this today to get a 256$ rx down to 79$. & it was Walmart. 🙂 great post!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awesome! So happy you could score the savings Sharon!

  23. Tracy

We have Cigna for our insurance. Can I still use this program in addition to regular insurance? My son has a prescription that is 45 dollars a month by itself plus other prescriptions. Also, I have an inhaler that was 45 and now is 75 dollars a month plus other prescriptions as well.

    • A

I don’t think you can use this in conjunction with insurance.

  24. Jean

You can choose not to file your insurance at the pharmacy. Walmart offers many common prescriptions for just $4.00. I had amoxicillin filled at CVS simply because it was close to home. It was $11.99. Later I checked Good RX. It would have been $4.00 at Walmart and .39 cents at Publix. This is without using their discount card or insurance. A good site to compare prices.

  25. Angel

Another really good site to use and compare is NeedyMeds they have several different programs. My mom got one of medicines for free after simply having the doctor fill out a form and mail it in. The same prescription was costing her $100 a month with insurance.

  26. Sarah

My Rite Aid pharmacy didn’t accept it, but they have their own program that matched the price so worth asking even if a pharmacy doesn’t take it, may match it not to lose the business.

  27. Denise

My insurance doesn’t cover Retina A. If I don’t make my next vacation in Mexico, can I use this program to buy it there? Looks like Walmart is showing up as the cheapest. I saw some comments that some Walmart’s won’t accept this. I live in CA. Has anyone used this program to buy Retina A before?

    • Em Gee

Retin A is a brand drug. You can probably get the generic covered which is the tretinoin. But call your insurance to find out what is on your plans formulary

  28. Madonna

This app has literally saved my family hundreds of dollars. I use it to find the best prices for human and pet family needs. Highly recommend

  29. katy

Hi, I’m a Pharmacist and have worked in several chains. Good Rx cannot be combined with insurance. If you have insurance, you have to decide to use either the discount or the insurance, not both.

  30. Crystal

LOVE good rx! Super easy to use. Just take the card in and pay a cheaper price. Yay!!
