Hey all. I just got home from my local Target. When I checked out, my Cartwheel brought up a trouble screen on the cash register. Then the cashier proceeded to tell me I could not use a manufacturer and a Cartwheel as they are the same thing. Confused, and she seemed new, I asked for a manager. The manager came over and said the same thing. She said that Cartwheel has “merged” with manufacturer coupons and you can only use one or the other. Has anyone encountered this? I told her I have been stacking these for years and that you were always allowed to stack a Target, A manufacturer, and a cartwheel? She said not anymore….

    • Brian

for instance…I tried to use the Biotene $1.00 off manufacturer coupon with the Cartwheel 25% off and it was refused.

      • Ria

You can’t stack those, because the $1 off on cartwheel and paper $1 coupon are the same thing – manufacturer’s coupon, it would be like printing 2 copies of the same coupon and using both on one item

        • Brian

Ria it wasn’t like that. The Biotene was a 25% off Cartwheel and a $1.00 off manufacturer.

      • Andrea

I’ve always used both without an issue. I hope this isn’t another new thing.

      • Ria

The Biotene thing is weird though, it should’ve gone through

      • Brian

Sorry….one more example. Then I bought 3 Pillsbury Toaster Strudels and had 3 coupons. I was told I could only use 1 because on the coupon it said, “May only use 1 coupon per purchase of specified product(s)” What did I miss? Granted we had a minor tragedy in the family and have really had to cut back but its only been a few months since I’ve been to Target…

    • Emily

Indeed some manufacturer coupons are now available on Cartwheel. But if you are using a % off cartwheel offer and a paper mq, you should be fine. For example, there is a .50 Annie’s Mac N Cheese on Cartwheel. You can’t combine that with a paper manufacturer coupon for the same item. For the Fiber One deal, you’ll have no problems. Take a copy of the coupon policy with you next time. Take your receipt to get an adjustment if you were denied a coupon the first time.

    • Amy

I’ve noticed that when you have a percentage off cartwheel and a single time use coupon on cartwheel for the same item the register doesn’t take both off.

      • Brian

I couldn’t get the cashier and manager to understand that…everything I tried to do was exactly as posted on Hip2save as I have always done. They were indeed a paper manufacturer coupon and a percentage off.

Off topic…Can I submit for the ibotta plum mashups rebate once it resets for the other flavor . Say I buy 4 boxes, 2 of one flavor and 2 of the other. I submit $1 for the one flavor. Then once the rebate resets can I submit for the other flavor with the same receipt? Thanks for the help.

    • Brian

I don’t believe so. I think they log the receipt number.

      • Heather

Worth a try! Not sure on same items with different flavors, where the rebate does not specify a flavor. They may or may not take it. However, I always keep my receipts for a week or so, in case a totally new rebate pops up and I re-submit the same receipt. They accept those.

    • pandoraaddict

No. Ibotta needs a different receipt if the same item comes back again. You can only submit the same receipt for an item you forgot to submit for. It’s all in their terms.

So here is how it ended up playing out. They took all of my paper coupons off and started over. Then they looked at my Cartwheel, and if I had a paper coupon that had a Cartwheel offer…they would not scan any paper coupons that had a Cartwheel percentage off offer.

    • Gretchen

Nope, that’s not right. I think its just a matter of employees not paying attention to corp. policy. Here is the policy :

Only one manufacturer coupon (paper or Cartwheel digital), one Target coupon (paper or digital), and one Cartwheel℠ offer can be combined per item (unless otherwise noted on coupon).

You see there it refers to Cartwheel digital (those are the manufacture coupons you load on your CW) Clearly the manager was taking liberty with that to mean ALL Cartwheels.

I would print out the policy and take it with you. BUT the manager does have the right to refuse any coupons with out reason. They are REALLY tightening up on this. I sent my mom to Target to get clearance toys, they were all listed on the website as 50% off, and she got exactly the ones listed and tried to price match, but they refused. SHe argued for a while until finally she got fed up and told them to keep the $200 worth of merchandise she was buying and she took her money to Walmart. I feel awful for putting her thru that – the website said all the toys she was buying were available IN STORE only – so why show a different price? It seems like bait and switch to me. IF they don;t want to accept coupons, or price match, than just change your policies, but don’t bait people into your store and then not honor it!

      • Brian

I just spoke to corp. They seemed to agree but came short of saying it. They also said they would contact the store to have their associates trained ._. Anyway…I do believe you are right. I think the manager is confused about the new Cartwheel digital coupons.

      • Brian

After speaking to corporate…I’m pretty sure no one in the target franchise completely understands the new Cartwheel digital coupons. I believe you are correct….

          • Brian

Oh yeah…I know. I was just so tired of arguing about the Cartwheel that I ran out of energy. The cashier seemed fairly new as she read EVERY WORD OF EVERY COUPON…including the duplicate coupons. LOL I swear this whole story is true. I understand the new employee not understanding the rules…but the manager now, I know she has been there for a few years.

            • Gretchen

I’m Afraid that might be the new norm. Cashiers that I have been going to for years that know me by name suddenly are reading every coupon word for word.

            • Brian

You know…I have always prided myself on the fact that I followed the rules. I would never try to get one over on a store. Having said that…I would not mind if they were to read every coupon, as long as they can understand what they are reading. Like Collin showed in the link you provided…There is a difference between “per item” and “per transaction”. It’s just getting harder and harder to use coupons. But I guess the last defense will have to be the manufacturer themselves. They provide these coupons to get the customer to buy their products with the understanding that the stores will accept them. I guess complaining to the manufacturers is the next step…

  4. Mo

Well just to keep it light here (sorry about all the coupon troubles at our Beloved Target — I just had some the other day too!) the title to this post cracked. me. up. LOL

    • Brian

Hi Mo… I honestly wasn’t trying to stir up trouble here. I love hip2Save and Target. Between these two sources, I have really been able to do things that were out of reach at times. It has been a few months since I have been out, so I was just wondering if something crazy happened when I was away. I believe now it was just due to lack of trading. Luckily, I have 2 more Targets that are close by so I will just head there and see what happens. I would however like to see Target just do away with the Digital Cartwheel codons….too much confusion with the store associates. Today is a new day 🙂

      • Brian

wow…I should have read that before I posted. LOL “lack of TRAINING” and “Digital Cartwheel COUPONS’ is what I meant to say..

      • Gretchen

Brain, I don’t think you were stirring up trouble 😉 And I hope I wasn’t either – I didn’t mean to imply I have a problem with Target employees checking my coupons, I always play by the rules – and I would hate to get am employee in trouble just because I need to save $.50! But its always good to know if other people are seeing changes coming. Given that I spend more at Target now than I ever did before I found Hip2save, it would just be nice to feel like we couponers are appreciated. I fear its the extreme couponers who probably ruin it for the rest of us. Which is my big pet peeve. I am always considerate to not take EVERYTHING off the shelf, and if I have extra coupons I leave them on the shelf, too – but I always wonder if that makes the employees mad – like if they would throw them away if they found them??? ALso, I have given up on digital coupons – don;t even load them – they are such a waste of time – I hope if enough people don;t load them, maybe they will do away with them…

    • Gretchen

Mo, It cracked me up too. I have read some other people complain about how different the post titles are – but I like it – I think Colin and here team are very funny – and it breaks up the monotony of the posts! FYI – I did rush out to Target and buy these – they are SOOOOO good. It took all my will power not to eat the entire box!
