How is this compared to Ibotta? Sorry i’m new to this kind of couponing. I appreciate all the help!

Available at any store compared to ibotta which is only at specific places. Refreshes every Thursday.

    • Janet

Certain offers cannot be combined with coupons.

I use both. What I like about checkout 51 is that I can use it at any store. Many of the stores I shop at are not on ibotta (Aldi, earthfare and my local grocery stores).

Both apps are great to have! The biggest difference is Ckout51 offers can be redeemed at any store, while Ibotta can only be redeemed from the stores they have listed. Also, the offers from Ckout51 are only valid for the wk, starting on Thursday and ending midnight Wed. That means you cannot use a receipt from the previous wk (whereas Ibotta has a 7 day window)
Some offers will reset, while others will be new. And the limit for a majority of offers is 1, but some offers can have a higher redemption limit, so you’ll have to ck the app for that (example, Arm & Hammer is 5).
Also keep in mind there is a limited amount of redemptions, so if you see an offer (esp if it says Limited Quantities), you’ll want to buy & upload your receipt right away.
Once you reach $20, you can request a check. they don’t have a paypal option.

Cashing out is different. This one mails a paper check, relying on 1995-era technology. You have to accumulate $20 to request a check, then you wait a few weeks for it to show up in your mailbox. You do get the money, but the clunky, old-school way they do it is bizarre in this day and age.

Ibotta, of course, uses PayPal. So does MobiSave (and Mobi tops them all in efficiency by paying out instantly upon receipt approval, with no need to accumulate any amount prior to pay-out).

I agree w/ other posters’ comments and would say that these apps complement each other well. Biggest difference is the timing and limits on the offers:
*Availability of Checkout51 offers depends on how many others have already redeemed them; w/ ibotta your offer should be good until its expiration date.
*Usually Checkout51 offers have a limit of 1, and whatever the limit it will always be specified. Ibotta always limits you to 1, but the offers frequently reset after about 2 days.
*Ibotta has many more offers at any given time, but every once in awhile Checkout51 will have a high-value and/or high-limit deal (e.g., the Nabisco deal several weeks ago offered $2.50 per package of any Nabisco item, with a limit of 5. Many people blogged about this deal and it made for some very cheap, free, or even money-maker cookies & crackers).
*Both require $20 to cash out, so it may take awhile to accumulate enough cash back to see it. Checkout51 sends you a check in about a week; ibotta sends paypal or g/c immediately.
*Checkout51 allows cash back on any purchase, not just specific stories. This even includes online orders, as long as you redeem within the redemption week (by Wed at midnight).

I like Ibotta much better but I love that I can do both savings apps with the same receipt! If you’re a Walmarter you can do Savings Catcher in addition to these two.

      Savings:
      Ibotta (2months) $45
      Checkout 51 (2 months) $2.45
      Savings Catcher (6months) $17

I use both. In the last year I have cashed out $400 on Ibotta and $20 on this one. It’s useful but I love Ibotta.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh awesome! Thanks for sharing Amy!

  3. Lauren

I started using both earlier this summer… have earned about $55 from ibotta and $45 from checkout 51.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet!

Both of these apps, along with saving star, Mobisave, receipt hog, and topcashback are my Christmas fund. Right now I have $90 on Ibotta and $60 on checkout 51, $70 on topcashback and $70 in PayPal from Mobisave and other things. I’ve only been working on these since May. In about a month I’ll cash them all out and start over again saving for next year. Makes Christmas so much easier on the wallet. 🙂
