CVS

Are you new to CVS deal shopping?

Be sure to head on over here to check out our CVS Store Guide. Also, if the coupon jargon below starts to confuse you, take some time to read through the Coupon Newbie section.

NOTE FROM COLLIN:

We are going to try something different this week with the store deals. I personally find the store deals to be a bit overwhelming since basically ALL of the deals from the ad are listed. With that said, the deals listed below are what we believe to be the BEST deals for the week. Since we are trying out just listing the ones that we think are the most exciting, you will NOT see anything highlighted in red. I hope this makes it much easier and faster for you to easily browse through all of the awesome deals.

CVS

Before starting your shopping trip this week, be sure to scan your CVS ExtraCare card (OR enter your ExtraCare card number OR 10-digit phone number linked to your card) at the Magic Coupon Machine this week to see what CVS store coupons print for out that you can also combine with manufacturer’s coupons!

PLUS, did you know that you can log into CVS.com (or register) to print your Extra Buck Rewards at home?! Also, please note that CVS has updated their coupon policy as of 8/1/16 (go here for details).

  1. Beth

Hard to teach an ‘old dog’ new tricks! But I will learn. Strange not seeing ‘red’. Thank you for all your hard work. Happy Labor Day.

    • af

I was about tp say same

      • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

Thanks for letting us know and sharing your thoughts. We have also added shopping scenarios and clearance finds in the weekly deals to hopefully help with your planning. 😊

  2. Jill

I agree, it’s very strange not seeing the red. Maybe you could consider a way to highlight or mark the best of the best (stock up prices) deals. It seemed like it took me long this week to look through the entire list because I’m used to scrolling through and only looking at the red highlighted items.

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

Thanks for the feedback! We also are going to try and include shopping scenarios (at bottom of this post) and possible clearance finds that hopefully will help you plan your shopping trip!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks, Jill! I agree – totally weird not seeing the red, However, we are really trying to weed through the weekly ad and ONLY list the best deals – which means that most of the deals listed above would be highlighted in red. Does that make sense?

      • jax

Maybe since these are all the deals that would be red you could just make the text all red?

        • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

          Great idea!

        • Jenn

I love this idea! While we know all the text will be in red, our brains will recognize all as hot deals because we’re so used to red text indicating that. Thank you Collin and team for all you do!

          • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re welcome!! And thanks all for the feedback! We will be taking all of this into consideration when we write up next week’s deals.

        • Jennifer

All red please. My brain does not understand. Hahaha

  3. Sue

THANK YOU!!! I love this change. I rarely look at the store deals when you post them on Saturdays because as you said it is everything listed in the ad. Instead having you just tell me what I’ll get the best deal on saves me time.

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

You are so welcome Sue! Glad you like it 👍🏻

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

YAY!! So glad to hear this. I think this change will make it much easier for all of you to put your lists together. Thanks for commenting.

    • daltonjsmom

I definitely prefer the more complete list with the red text as the others stated. I often find some of the so-so deals can be made great when you add Saving Star, Ibotta, CRT’s, the Buy-5-Get-1-L’oreal-Program and rain checks from previous deals. CVS is the only store I coupon at and Hip2Save is the only couponing site I use because it was so easy for me to do this.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Totally understand! I am passing this along to the team.

      • Mika

I agree daltonjsmom, I sometimes get cvs coupons in my email and from the red machine that would make the deals that are not so great for others great for me. So I appreciate the complete list. Thanks for all your hard work though Collin!

        • tina

I appreciate the more complete list as well. I always read the beginning text to see the item and immediately jump down to the “after coupon” price to determine if I need to read the whole deal. Hip2save is my main couponing site and has been for so many years! I would love to see the complete list return please! Thank you for all you do!

      • TRACEY

That’s exactly what I was thinking!

      • Mary McNaull

I prefer the more complete list as well. If you have ECBs to use, it can make a not so great deal become a great deal. Or if you happen to need something, like toilet paper, having the complete list will help you compare prices at different stores. With the complete list, I can still see that it is cheaper than it would be at Walgreens or Target.

      • Maribeth

I prefer the complete list as well. If you have ECBs to use, it can make a not so good deal become a great deal. Plus, if you need something, like paper towels, it is good to have the complete list so you can compare prices at other stores.

      • Sippimarie

I prefer the complete list as well 🙂 a lot of times I purchase items that are not highlighted in red because CVS is the only place I coupon. And I only use Hip2Save!

  4. Marie

It will take getting used to not seeing deals in red but I understand changes happen. Thanks for posting!

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

      You are most welcome Marie!

  5. Abby

I prefer to filter through all the deals. Some of us live in a location where we don’t have choices of multiple drug stores so we have to do the best we can with one. And I may need an item desperately that I can get on sale even though it’s not considered by the H2S crew as a ‘best deal’. That said, I am truly so thankful for all the crew does to help my family save money.

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

Thanks for the feedback Abby! We will definitely take this into account 😊

    • Lily

I prefer the old way, I know it’s harder for the H2S crew (more time to put together), but for Me
I may have a coupon from a contest, directly from a company or have a Catalina coupon
that would make a deal that would not be considered “best deal” to you a great deal for me.
There also may be coupons on deals not considered Best Deal that I did not know about,
that could be used at a later date.
It may add about 5 minutes to my looking though all the deals, but time well spent!

      • Tammy

I agree. I really prefer to see all the deals with the best shown in red.

        • Laura

I agree – bring back the red

      • nikki

Agreed! And I always used this as my ad so I didn’t have to look through the paper ad on Sunday.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks all! This feedback is helpful for us to see.

      • Kathy

Oops… I started my comment earlier but only finished it now and see I repeated the same thing you said!! Agreed!

  6. Neha Joshi

Couldn’t agree more Beth. I usually check only the red highlighted text. Thanks Collin for all the great deals; you save us so much money. God bless!

  7. dhigc

Thank you H2S for all match ups. Wondering today nothing is in red 🤔..

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

Check out the note from Collin at the top of the post 😊

  8. Janet

I too prefer the way you did the Matchups previously. Sometimes I do need something & it is nice to be able to Crtl+F and find it even if it isnt the best deal. Now I will have to look at this matchup and the add. But I do appreciate all the work you put into this.

    • Diane

Janet – I was just about to post the same thing. I do a Ctrl+F all the time for things that I need but are not necessarily considered a deal. So I will miss the old way, but I realize it is a lot of work and I appreciate all Hip2Save does and all the money you save us. Thank you!

      • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

Thanks for the feedback Diane and Janet!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hi Janet,

I totally understand what you’re saying. I think the issue has been that some of the weekly deals are literally the everyday price at Walmart, so in my opinion they aren’t really deals at all. Does that make sense?

      • Diane

I get it, but when I am out of something like feminine products or toilet paper or something, or someone is sick and I want to get OTC medicine that I don’t have, I am more likely to quickly run to a close drugstore with my ECB’s or points than to drive all the way to Walmart. Thanks for all you do!

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

That makes sense!! We definitely will take all of this feedback into consideration. This was a test run, but I am thinking it may be best to go back to the old way of doing it.

        • Gina

Me too Diana I can’t stand rudeness of Wal-Mart cashier AND to stuck up CVS deals with CVS CUOPONS and EB let me ALWAYS pay almost nothing OOP. Thanks ladies for all your HELP to keep us going 😉

        • nikki

          Ditto!

        • Mika

Great point Diane! I really prefer to shop at Wal-Mart because they are way cheaper than CVS but my closest Wal-Mart is 10 miles away while I have 3 CVS stores within 2 miles of my house. When you’re in a pinch it’s sometimes easier to get stuff from CVS.

  9. Alison

Personally, I like this idea! Too many deals is just so overwhelming. Highlighting the best is awesome, IMO. ❤️Hip2Save!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

So happy to hear that! Thanks for the comment! 😊

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

      Glad you like it Alison!!

  10. jesi

    Who is mary sidekick?
I have no idea who that is but i hope collin is still planning the deals 🙁

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

Hi Jesi! I have been working with Collin as one of her sidekicks for the past 5+ years 😊

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hi Jesi,

Mary is one of my awesome sidekicks who helps with lots of the content on the site including making sure that the CVS match-ups are compiled for you all. 😃 I am still here too, but do have a team of sidekicks to also help run the site.

  11. Crystal

    Love the new condensed list!

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

      Glad you like it!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Happy to hear you like this shortened list.

  12. Elaine

Many of us are planning trips around what CRT and app coupons we have as well, so having the whole ad listed is helpful because just an ok deal can become a great deal after factoring in CVS coupons.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

That totally makes sense! When we do next week’s deals we will review all the feedback and change things up as needed.

  13. Valerie

I like the old way, as many have already stated, sometimes the “best” deals are not always what we’re looking for that week, but we might need something else that is on sale at that time. I do, however, like that the shopping scenarios are being brought back, I missed them when they went away a few or so years ago.

    Thanks for all you do!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re welcome Valerie! Thanks fo rthe feedback!

  14. irene

I like non- red so I evaluate each deal for myself. Otherwise, I do a quick scan and miss out!

If you still have the 30% CVS CRT, you coul use it on the Gold Emblem $3/$10 offer.

  15. Grateful

There is $3 reward for Dove in SavingStart which makes it free. Thanks 😊

  16. Tammy

Wouldn’t Almay deal, if it is buy one get one half off, equal $9.74 total, less $5 coupon equal out of pocket $4.74, less a $4 ECB for $$.74 final cost?

    • HeatherCVS

Sorry about the confusion. Almay is on sale for Buy 1 Get 1 50% off this week, with no EB. Updating now 🙂

  17. Andrea

As some have said, I like the old listing. There are times I have coupons from tear pads, contests etc, and want to make my own matchups, days the paper doesn’t get delivered and I have no print ad to refer to, emergency items needed that I’d like to pick up using my ECB and I always turn to Hip2Save to get the information I need. And I miss the deals in red!

    • Lauren G.

I agree, I don’t have access to a paper advertisement and I don’t have a Walmart nearby, I live in NYC, so I depend on your full listing. Please bring it back next week. You have gotten a big following from the thorough work you do. Please don’t change it. I tolerate the advertisements on your site because of the listings. I don’t think I will come back if it’s not the full list. Sorry!

  18. Jess

I prefer this way so much better! I would get bogged down by going through the whole list. Makes it quicker for me to know which store I need to go to get the best deal on the items I need. Thanks!

  19. Kristy

Change is hard for most people. Give it more than a week to test out. Would it work to link to the store ads so people can easily access them without you having to type it all out?

    • pandoraaddict

The problem with CVS ads, some regions get a small 8 page one instead, and deals can vary.

      • Kris

I agree with you. I usually get the tiny ad, and some of the best deals just aren’t available to me.

  20. Shelly T

I’m one more that likes the old way. I don’t go to Walmart often and CVS & Walgreens are my closest stores to shop at. I also liked seeing all the deals and the coupons that could be used on it. Very helpful if you really need something that is not a “hot deal”. With that said thank you to the H2S team for all your hard work! I have been here since the beginning when Colin would show her weekly shopping trips and her amazingly long receipts! 🙂

  21. Susan

I like this! I used to only look at the red items anyway, now it’s just a shorter list to look at! Just like the best Target deals they always post on monday. I’ve always waited until monday to look at the Target deals & passed over the saturday post.
    Thanks Hip2Save team
    Susan

    • Jennifer B.

I must say I don’t feel like this was any shorter at all!

I am one who is resistant to change, but I don’t think that has impacted my reasoning here. I agree with all who’ve posted about liking having access to all the deals (because our own personal stash of coupons or EBs make some so-so deals great and/or not having access to competitors like Walmart).

I also, personally, think having all red text would be a bad idea.

Just my two cents on the issue!

Thank you so much to the team for all your hard work and for even considering our thoughts on changes. It is Collin’s website to do with as she chooses, after all.

  22. Holly Huffstutler

Just so you know, the Physician’s Formula bronzer rebate expired in May. 🙂

    • HeatherCVS

Darn! Thanks for letting us know. Just updated with the rebates that are still valid. Thanks!

  23. Musk

Love the new concept, but if there is way to still keep the red highlights, that would be nice. Thanks!

  24. Kathy

I prefer the old way much better. I also sometimes do not get a sales ad with my paper so it is good to see all the deals and the best ones in red. I appreciate all that goes into showing us the best deals. I don’t think it takes that much extra time to skim through all the deals listed. I suppose we could all get used to this new way eventually, but I do like seeing the best deals in red.

  25. Cleo

Okay, so at the risk of sounding blasphemous to all of my fellow H2S groupies, I have never been able to do this list making easily. I have used a different website ( don’t be upset with me) because it is much more user friendly, I would love for H2S to be my only one. One post is “free or nearly free”. A second post does the weekly ad with the best deals first. Then everything else, in alphabetical order. So, again, I looked at this hoping. and it just doesn’t fit what I need. For example, I always look at whatis “free or nearly free”. And this week I need Clearasil for my teenager. So I then go to the weekly ad post and scan quickly, I’m alphabetical order. Anyway, that is my 2 cents. I am a H2S groupie for all but this. And I would do anything to avoid Walmart…….

  26. vanessa

I actually prefer the old was as well. Sometimes things that are a super good deal for me isn’t necessarily a good deal to the H2S team.

  27. Janell Wolfe

Can you put (or is there already and I overlooked it) a link at the top of the post to the bottom of the post- the weekly scenario deals? Those are really the only thing I look at it.

  28. Ande Hawks

I have been reading a lot about the changes to CVS’s coupon policy. Are we still allowed to break up our transactions on the same shopping trip? I do not live close to a CVS, and am not willing to go back every day to use the “bucks” . In the past, I tried to work the deals to roll the bucks to multiple transactions in the same trip. Thanks, really appreciate all you do, and how clearly you spell out each deal.

  29. Jen

While I am beyond grateful for all you do, I like the old way better. Like others have noted, we might have coupons sent by a company, customer specific coupons for CVS, Ibotta/SS/Mobisave/Checkout51, cross-comparing other drugstores for things that aren’t always bought with a coupon. I hope you consider changing it back 😕

  30. krisee

I really like the setup and shopping scenarios at the bottom! Great idea and having all black doesn’t bother me at all! I like knowing these are the “best deals” and I don’t need to search for the red ones!

  31. TAMI

Have been using hip2save since it started and have been hooked since, and am thankful for all you and team do. I do also prefer old way, old version was more helpful than cvs.com! THANKS

    • Shopkeke

I ditto this comment. I am very thankful to the H2S team. I prefer the old way that breaks everything down.

  32. Linda

When you click on the CVS Abound $2/2 coupon link, 14 coupons are preselected instead of just the Abound coupon.

    • HeatherCVS

Hum…I am still seeing just the popcorn coupon selected. Maybe you could try a different browser? Hope that helps 🙂

  33. Kathy

I agree with the other comments about strange not to see red. I mostly looked at the red, but if there was an individualized coupon (for instance at CVS… % or dollar off), I would look at the other deals which would sometimes “become red” for me when combining with a “normal” match up. I enjoyed the thoroughness and preferred the Target Saturday listing the deals only target Tuesday listing well. I am sure it will be easier for you though, so you have to do what’s best for you… Thanks for everything!

  34. Heather C

Ha ha- I knew something must be up even before I read Collin’s note. 70+ comments on a CVS ad is quite odd, right? I know it’s not easy when changes happen for most people, even if they are good changes. With that said, it seems like this is easier for Collin and her team to do it this way. With such an excellent website and the benefit that we ALL get day in and day out, it seems very fair to me that what ever makes their lives a little bit easier – we should conform to. THANKS TO COLLIN & ALL HER (cute named) SIDEKICKS!

    • Erin

Me, too! The high number of comments are the only reason I opened this post! 😉 I’m not particularly invested in this debate since I don’t shop the drugstores anymore, but for what it’s worth, I’m in the “less is more” camp. When I did shop at the drugstores, I didn’t care for the red because red font is annoying/distracting and because the list of matchups was so long. I’d review the red deals, skim the others, and hit the store. If I had to alter my plan or needed to spend some ECBs on the fly, I’d just grab an ad and find my own deals. When I was shopping the drugstores regularly I knew which kinds of deals were great for me but not really hot in the scheme of this site, so I didn’t really come here for that.

Before reverting back to the new previous format, give readers time to digest the new way. I’m sure I’ll be in the minority here, but I don’t come here for a comprehensive list of each store’s deals. It’s just too much. I’m looking for only the great deals that I can reasonably score myself. I visit the site so much less than I have over the past seven or eight years because it seems like there are so many more borderline deals, needle-in-a-haystack clearance deals, and repeated/redundant posts (e.g., Target weekly deals, Target best deals, Target 50, 70, and 90 percent clearance deals, new posts of specific deals that already appeared in longer store lists, new posts for deals readers post in comments, etc.). When there are so many not-really-deals and repeated content, it’s so much more difficult to navigate the site or find what you’re looking for. Although I appreciate the team’s hard work making so many posts each day, maybe you are all working too hard! 🙂

  35. Jamie

It IS VERY strange not seeing red, I miss the old way (not just for the red lol) because we all get different coupons from CVS or elsewhere available to use and pair with deals so what might not be a HOT deal to you, Collin, might be to others. I hope you take this opinion into consideration.

  36. Jennifer

Hi Collin and team. Just wanted to give some honest feedback. I prefer the old way you listed items. Some of the not so good deals are great deals for me. I live in the city and only shop at cvs for most of my items besides food. I don’t have a Walmart and it gets pricey. So an item may not be a great deal but it’s normally cheaper at cvs when I pair with a coupon and ecbs. So if you decide to bring back the old way that would be awesome! If not that’s ok too. Just wanted to give a little feedback. I appreciate all that y’all do. Thank you so much.

Bring back the red! That said, thank you for all you do!

  38. Qgirlfriend

I like the new way. Not as much scrolling needed; I pretty much only looked at the red ones anyway. If there is something that I need and would be willing to pay a little more for, I can just look at the ads. 🙂

I’m enjoying reading the comments, because even many of the ones who (like me) prefer the other way are still encouraging the H2S team… what a “family” feel the H2S team have created for their readers!

  40. Pat

Please go back to the old way you use to to do the deal match-ups! Not a fan of this =(

  41. Cindi Weaver

I always look for the red! Miss it.

  42. Tracey

Thanks for all you do. I am another vote for the old way. It was much more helpful.

  43. Sarah

I don’t know about CVS stores nationwide but the stores in my area have discontinued the Revlon shadow links.

Am I missing something? Everyone keeps commenting they miss the red highlighted deals but it clearly states this new format is all the best deals…just not in red. Anyway…I love it!! Less is more!

  45. Ann

Thanks a lot for your hard work, but i’m for the old way:)

1 more vote for the old way
Note: Somehow coincidentally this week the actual sneak ads won’t load for me, so I was relying on the Hip2Save for the complete offerings (although normally I look at the scan of the full actual ad separately and then go to Hip2Save just for coupon matchups & to make sure I didn’t miss noticing any especially good deals, skimming for the red ones)

  47. AMG

Please go back to the old way. I like the whole ad so I can see the others deals that may be deals to me but not to others.

  48. Kristin

Please consider highlighting the very best stockup deals in red. It is a time saving measure for me. Thanks so much.

  49. Jill Beckman

Found that I could go through the deals quicker if the best ones are highlighted in red.

Thank you Collin and your team for putting up these deals every week. As much as I like the scenarios at the bottom, I would still prefer to see the full list. I know that would be extra work on you guys. But then, there are deals that may not be a good deal to everyone but some of us gets just for you coupons and/or other coupons printing that makes the not-so-good deals a really good deal. I’ve always used your site to check on those. Again, thanks a lot!
