I had $140 extra fees pop up for a 2 night stay. That’s ridiculous. No thanks.
I know! You pay more for the extra fees than the stay. CRAZY!
Amy, what “surprise” fees did they rack up on your bill? My daughter has always wanted to go here & this seems like a great deal but I don’t want any surprises.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
I’m supposing she means the Taxes and Fees at Checkout. Which is crazy, although we did this deal last time, and had an amazing three days there. We went ahead and got the Wold Den food voucher special. So we paid $431 total for two nights and had all the food we wanted with using the food voucher. So in my head the $100 worth of food made up for the taxes, because we would have been spending that anyway. The third day, you have to leave the room obviously at the normal time, but you can stay at the waterpark until closing. All in all, it was an amazing little getaway and our kids were in heaven. We WILL Be going again! 🙂
Resort fee are 30 dollars plus your typical taxes which cone to an extra 54 a night they forget to mention
I did this deal yesterday. Cost 280.00 with taxes and the 29.99 fee. I am spending the night on a Sunday in Oct. I also got 50.00 dining credit. One catch I see I don’t get to pick which themed room I get.
Yes!! We live near one so we only wanted one night and the taxes and fees were $62.76!! Yikes 😱
I still thinks it’s a good deal after the fees. Think about it, these rooms sleep 4+ people. If my family of 4 were to go to a 1 day waterpark it would cost us at least $160. GWL lets you use the waterpark starting at 1pm the day of check-in, and you can stay until closing the next day (check-out and put bags in car). So you get more than 1 day in the waterpark and a hotel for under $200 for 4 people.
Thanks for sharing Sara!
For 2 nights (room that sleeps my family was $169) the fees were $129. So $400+. I was fine with paying $169 a night but the extra fees just put it a little over the edge. I’m so bummed because I’ve wanted to go here for a long time.
Yes and we are a family of 5 (not the traditional 4) and it was even crazier after adding the extra person. So after the extra fees and adding the extra child it was a total deal breaker for us 😩
The larger room sleeps 6. They start at $159. Then $29.99 booking fee, which is almost covered with the code FIRST which gives you 25% off with a max discount of $25. Not sure why everyone’s total is so high. There is also 6% ebates which should cover most of the taxes. So the extra fees are almost wiped out. Topcash back is 8%. Plus if you choose a themed room you get $50 dinning credit with purchase. I was reading on a vacation site that the pizza is good value, and if you want to save money bring your own breakfast. Every room has a fridge. They said that they take a toaster. I don’t know what everyone is doing to make the total skyrocket but its worth trying again. To see if your total is lower.
Darn! Sorry to hear that the fees were too high 🙁
We stayed there a few months ago for 3 nights was told on phone when making reservations it was 169. A night but with resort fees and taxes it was an extra 54 dollars a night no one mentioned these extra fees .. Good place for kids but they should mention or include in there prices when you pay we won’t go back .
Taxes are never included in price. So $25.00 of your total was tax. I agree with the resort fee. But tax is tax blame obama and every other politician.
Yep, the dreaded resort fee. We went earlier this year with a groupon deal, and had a blast. A few days later I received an email for 50% off my next stay, so booked 2 nights in feb 2017. Came to $263 after taxes and fees.
Please go to the actual GWL web site and use code ESAVE (stands for “early saver”) to book a room 60+ days in advance!!! Another H2S-er mentioned it in the earlier post, and it saved me $60 per night compared to the Groupon deal! Yes, you will still have the taxes and fees, but it still was the massive $60-per-night savings. I was thrilled!
I agree! The Groupon deal only has dates through November. The ESAVE code is valid for dates in December (which is when we really wanted to go). Reservations must be at least 60 days out. Booking it directly through the GWL website allowed me to book a room during the “Snowland” celebration for a price cheaper than what Groupon is offering. We’ve been there several times before, but never during the Christmas season. This will be my Christmas present to my kids. I can’t wait!
Snowland is awesome. We’ve only been to GWL one other time, and it was at Christmas. The decorations are fantastic, and they make it “snow” in the lobby during the program at nighttime!!! It was great. With the ESAVE code, I booked for the weekend after Thanksgiving, still got the cheapest rate possible, AND got into the Snowland period. 🙂
Also be flexible on your dates…look at the Rates Calendar and you can pick the dates that have the cheapest rate.
Sorry if this posts twice; I don’t see my first comment. Code ESAVE on the actual GWL web site saves you tons if you book at least 60 days in advance–it took $60 per night off the rate for my same room and same dates compared to Groupon! Just used it tonight to book!
Resort fees should only apply to the ones using the water park not all who stay and they should include it with room prices instead of a suprise email when you get home or bill
It’s cheaper to buy at great wolf lodge directly. I’m paying $291.62 for two nights family of 6. They have 50% off if you book 60 days in advance. That includes all fees and taxes. Our fifth time staying there.
That’s how we do it. Get a basic room instead of themed and book 60 days in advance on a weeknight (we homeschool so we are flexible on dates). We were able to do 2 nights plus 2 days of breakfasts for $308.
Just booked a one night stay (So.Cal) in a themed kidcabin suite for my family of 7 in October. With fees and taxes it came out to $450 total. This includes a $50 dining credit. So $400 for the room and waterpark passes for 7 people, I’m very happy with this deal. The cheaper rates are for smaller groups of 4-6 people. Love that you can access the waterpark before check in and also the whole day of check out.
