I’ve done this twice with ford and chevy a year ago and never got the gift card 😐

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh bummer πŸ™ Sorry to hear that Marissa! Hopefully this one will work for you if you decide to try it out!

    • Holly

Did this at Peterson Stampede Dodge recently and was yelled at for asking for it since we didn’t end up purchasing. We bought vehicle elsewhere the following weekend–we were legit customers!

  2. Kate

Mine said $50 visa gift card.

  3. Jenn

I worked at a dealership where we offered a $75 gift card last New Years. Unfortunately the offer went viral, like this post, and we had 350 test drive requests even from people out of state. It was a disaster. That’s what is going to happen here. This offer will be shut down soon.

  4. Saving Mom

Mine said 50 visa gift card too

  5. AJ

I’m guessing a salesperson is going to be a passenger?

And how long is the test drive?

  6. Liz

With all due respect, if you’re going to take a test drive for a freebie $50 card, but have zero interest or plans to purchase a vehicle, please do not waste the sales person’s time. Their livelyhood depends on sale conversions so, let them spend time on a prospect who has interest in their product.

    • Laura

I agree with u Liz. I don’t think these offers should be made public like this

      • Heather

        I agree.

    • Laura

I agree! What a nightmare for those folks.

    • Laura

I agree that only people who are interested in purchasing a vehicle should partake in this offer, but it’s really helpful for many people to see this. We are actually car shopping and I would never have known about it otherwise. Thanks Collin!!

    • Tracy

      I totally agree.

  7. joanne

    It won’t print out properly.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Darn! Are you able to try it in a different browser?

  8. Polly

Do not waste a car salesmen’s time unless you are seriously going to buy a car! They’re on commission and giving you a test drive when you are doing it just for the gift card could cost them a REAL sale!!!!

  9. joy

Thank u so much. These offers are great i do them every time with NO problems. Got 100.00 for cadillac, 25 x 2 kia. I really appreciate the post. The dealers are nice to me and just kindly ask that i recommend them to anyone wanting a new vehicle and are always more than happy to take a break from work and go for a test drive spin with me! TYSM

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re so welcome! Glad to hear how well these offers have worked for you Joy! Thanks for the feedback!

  10. deals4reals

Mine printed perfectly no issues here. Thanks.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Great to hear! YW!

  11. tam

We are on the hunt for a new car, so I appreciate the post, wouldn’t have know about this otherwise thanks Collin.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Perfect! You’re very welcome!

  12. Ktenny

Can’t afford a new car now so I’m not going to bother.

  13. Joanie Yan

I liked these test drives when the dealer validated them and then you were able to mail it in yourself. With the dealer now having to submit it there’s no guarantee they will.

  14. Breanna

My husand is a car salesman. Please do not waste their time if you are not going to purchase a vehicle. He gets paid strictly commission and could potentially miss out on a sale just because someone wants a free gift card.

    • Dee

people can do whatever they wish. its a free country.

      • Marie

I agree with Dee. The promo shouldn’t be offered if you don’t expect people to partake in it. If anything if the salesman is good he/she would get recommended, but telling the people not to go isn’t fair. The point of this is for them to get exposure that they wouldn’t get otherwise.

        • meg

Now I’ll correct you…this is for anyone to test drive a car…with NO purchase required.

          • laura

I do not need to be corrected. I stated facts. The offer is offered on their website for people inquiring about a car. If you hadn’t been looking, you wouldn’t have seen it. PERIOD. No if, ands or buts. The disclosure says no purchase required but the purpose of the marketing campaign is to TARGET people in the car buying process. Their intention is not for a whole bunch of people NOT in the car market to come in for a free gift card. If that was the intention, they would plaster it all over TV, radio, Facebook and so forth….

            • meg

Plain and simple no purchase is required. No reason to get so angry. Seriously? People can do what they want. Calm down and have a good evening

              • mandy

Completely agree Meg! She must work for Hyundai. Geez. She needs to get over it. People can do whatever.

            • mandy

Get over it laura. People can do whatever they want. Who are you to say they can’t. You work for Hyundai? Thought so.

        • Marie

I completely agree with you Laura! My husband also is s car salesman and he misses out on an actual sale when people come in to waste his time only wanting something for free with no intention of buying or recommending him. That’s not cool when most of these people work on strictly commission. I’m glad that the dealer is the one who has to send in the info for the coupon to Hyundai, then hopefully people like meg won’t get their precious gift card.

          • meg

Just so you know…I have no interest in doing a test drive. My comments were that this promotion is no purchase required and trying to make people feel like crap is completely ridiculous. Now..you have a good day.

    • Tracy

I’m with you Breanna. Some people on here are quite rude btw.

      • Dee

People are allowed to voice their opinions. No one should tell ANYONE what they can or cannot do/

  15. Ihearthip

I think it’s good because the car maker is getting a lot of exposure with their vehicles. Some people may go in just to get the freebie and decide they love the car. This is what dealerships do- “balloons for the kiddies and free hotdogs technique.” People shouldn’t be be made to feel guilty for taking an advertiser up on their offer.

    • Dee

completely agree. these salesmen make a lot of money ripping people off. it’s only fair people get something back in return.

      • tina

I’m not sure what car salesman you know personally, but they do not make tons of money ripping people off. My father does this for a living and he’s by far well off. It’s the car makers that are getting rich.

        • TRHAM

my cousin is a top salesman for a large dealership in colorado he cleared half a million dollars last year and several free trips and gifts. while it may not be the norm, it certainly is possible to become very wealthy and successful in the field, but I don’t see him as ripping people off, in fact he’s quite honest and forthright

          • Dee

i wasn’t directing it at your cousin. why do people get so upset as if im directing it towards them. let me clarify, the salesmen at the dealerships near my home rip people off. they never follow the listed price. ive personally experience being ripped off several times. my point being is that anyone can take advantage of this offer if they wish to. its up to the person what they choose to do.

    • laura

The point trying to be made by most people is you wouldn’t have seen the deal if you were not actively searching for a car. So it isn’t right for you to TAKE ADVANTAGE of an offer being made to people who are really in the car buying process. It isn’t fair to the car salesman or people who are really looking into buying a car. This is the whole “a few rotten apples spoil the bunch” scenario… why ruin a great offer being offered to active car buyers….

      • Christy

I think the other side of that argument is that this site helps people find deals that they would not have otherwise seen.

When she posts a great deal for a free or deeply discounted item you would not have normally purchased, do you say well I wasn’t planning to get X before this deal so now I’m not allowed to?

At the end of the day it is up to each of us to use our own discretion. While I won’t be lining up to get the gift card, there may be some people that decide to and that is their right. This site is meant to help one another not play judgement fairy.

  16. Sarah

I think its fair, even if youre not planning on Buying a car, as long as you’re totally upfront with the salesman. Tell him from the get-go we are not planning on buying a car right now we just want to take a test drive for the gift card!! But who knows maybe in the future you decide to car that you want!! Then you know who to come back and see!

  17. Diana

Thanks for the post!! I went and got my gift card. I was up front about not ready to buy yet and they didn’t make me test drive. I would never have stepped foot in a Hyundai dealership without this deal.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Great to hear that Diana! You’re very welcome!

  18. peepslob

As much as I need a $50 Target Giftcard, I really would feel bad, so I am not going to participate. Thank you for posting it though.

  19. Amy Kennedy

So excited! Was planning a trip to Hyundai on Fri 11/11 because its really time to replace my 2008 Vera Cruz. I’m also looking at a Chevy Traverse. Printed it out and so excited about this offer….Thanks H2S!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Amy!

    • Gina

Best time to BUY new car that rnd of Year or Memorial Day : keep it in mind AND Good luck

  20. rn30032

LMBO at some of the comments…but as stated earlier we live in a FREE country and can do as we please I will be there to get mines in the AM. Just be upfront and keep it moving

  21. us34

it is my first time for test drive πŸ™‚ .do we have to call them for a test drive or we can go like that only ?

    • Diana

No need to call in. You just show up, they take a copy of your drivers license and you choose what car you want to drive. They will ride with you while you drive.

  22. Me

For anyone actually in the market, I bought a new Hyundai Santa Fe this year and it is AWESOME. It is loaded with incredible features like a 360* camera, google gps, I could go on but I don’t want to sound like a saleswoman. Oh and it has three rows, so works great for my family of five plus a guest. All of this for 15k less than comparable suvs.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awesome to hear that! Thanks so much for the helpful feedback! πŸ™‚

  23. Charlotte Roberds

I never could get to the site to send me the verification code that I asked for via email. When I tried to redo it it wouldn’t. I showed the offer to the dealership and they said they didn’t know anything about it. It took an hour and a half of our time to test drive and to get information on a trade-in on our vehicle. We left after an hour and a half with no more answers than what we went there with. And we are looking to trade in for a new car.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Darn! I’m wondering if the offer is not being honored at your location? Maybe try again in a different browser to see if that helps.

  24. Sam

Thank you for the post. Completed test drive and received gift card. Nice car and nice salesman.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh good! You’re very welcome Sam!

  25. A.Gold

We have taken advantage of these types of offers. We are always VERY honest when they call or we go in. We tell them we are there for the gift card. They appreciate it and we step aside if a true customer comes in. We have been told they are happy we are honest. They have also told us that they know people come in just for it. They do not always even make us take the test drive. We have also been told that it is good we came in- it makes the showroom look busy and it breaks up their day if it is slow.

  26. Marie

Just wanted to say I got this and it was easy. Thanks so much.

  27. Amy VS

I was given the option of an Amazon Giftcard – nice! They were very helpful and did not make me do that actual test drive because I am quite pregnant and also had my two-year-old along. They said it would be mailed to me – fingers crossed!

  28. lizard

Does anyone have their copy with a phone number to call? The dealer took my paper (and I stupidly did not make a copy) and I have not received my reward e-mail yet.

  29. Erin

No phone number on the paper but says check mygiftcardstatus.com

Are there physically mailed or are they emailed?? Can anyone confirm?

  30. JM Cosh

I’ve done this a few times and never had a problem. I consider it research for if/when I replace my vehicle – even if that might be a couple of years from now. The last time it was at a Subaru dealership and I NEVER would have even considered looking at one before I test drove it but now I will definitely consider buying one – I was quite surprised at the low cost for a high rated, comfortable, durable vehicle. Last year I test drove a Kia and IMMEDIATELY took them off the list of possibilities. I always tell the salesperson I’m not planning on buying in the next 6-12 months but want to narrow my list of possibilities down in case of an accident or mechanical problem which might necessitate an earlier purchase. I think salespeople shouldn’t be annoyed at these types of promotions or people taking advantage of them because you never know where it will lead. Fun fact, 9 years ago or so I test drove a BMW because of a promotion at a local dealership and ended up buying one soon after! In all honesty, I never would have stepped foot in a BMW dealership if it hadn’t been for that promotion – so you really never know!!

  31. Ang B

I did my test drive 5 weeks ago and still haven’t received the gift card that was supposed to me emailed to me. Who do I follow-up with on the status? Can anyone tell me what the subject line is from the email they received?

    • Heather

I did mine in the middle of November and still couldn’t get my gift card. I called the Hyundai dealer that i did my test drive with and he said there is another company that should send my gift card so it’s not their fault. He told me if i can wait on the phone he will prove me with that company’s phone number but then he hang up the phone.

      • Ang b

        That is unacceptable πŸ™
I called and left a msg for corporate to call me back because when I called the dealership to ask them about it they wouldn’t give me any info. I definitely won’t be buying a car from them!
