InkWhere do YOU Recycle Ink Cartridges?

Check out this question from reader, Michelle: Can you please do a post on where are some of the best places to recycle your ink cartridges for money back? Back in the day, you used to get $3 cash for each but now I think Staples gives $2 and only if you buy a certain dollar amount of ink from them. I would just love to know where is best to go.

Office Depot gives you $2 per toner (I have a toner printer), but I think the requirements are that you make a $10 min purchase and you will get the money back in your rewards.

I recycle mine at Office Depot, where I get 200 points per cartridge (must make a $10 in store purchase that month to receive rewards). I get $10 back for every 1000 points! There is an Office Depot across the street from my office, so it’s extremely convenient.

Side note – I do a ton of printing for my crafting projects. I use the HP Instant Ink service and it saves me a ton of money! I pay $10/month, and I can print up to 300 pages. They send the ink automatically once I it gets low, so I never run out of ink and I never have to buy it! If I go over the limit (which I rarely do), they only charge $1 per 25 extra pages. Between HP Instant Ink and Office Depot Recycling Rewards I’m pretty much getting UNLIMITED printing for free.

Side side note – I also took advantage of the Canon 4×6 photo paper deal that Colin posted about. For Christmas I was able to give all of my siblings and in laws personal photo albums basically for free! So thank you so much for all of the deals, it is greatly appreciated!

I’ve refilled my cartridges at Costco before. It saved me lots of money. Not sure about actual recycling though.

We usually just try to buy ink cartridges when they are on sale or with our Shop Your Way Rewards points and then donate the old cartridges to our grandson’s school where they recycle them for extra cash. It would be nice to find a place that offers a good value for recycled ones.

If you buy $30 worth of ink at Staples over a 6 month period, you can recycle up to 10 cartridges per month at $2 each cartridge ($120). I use Staples because it is closest to my house.

  7. Jackie

Can you refill them at sams also?

  8. Sarah

Cartridge World can save you a lot on ink and toner. You turn on your old cartridge and they give you a refilled one.

Some schools are used as drop off locations. At the school I work at, students can drop off ink and then the company arranges to pick up and pays the school $$. Not sure how common this is…

I buy cheap generic cartridges and I’ve always wondered if there was a recycling source for these that’s easy to do.
