Looking for a creative way to brighten someone’s day?

Create these bouquets of mini cupcakes in under 15 minutes using a large rimmed coffee cup and a few easy craft supplies! I just used store bought mini cupcakes, but you could also definitely bake and decorate your own if desired.

DIY Mini Cupcake Flower Bouquets

Supplies Needed for One Bouquet:
  • Large Coffee Cup – I used these
  • 4 inch Styrofoam Ball (Large enough to fit snug inside cup)
  • Strong Toothpicks
  • Green Tissue Paper
  • 7 Mini Cupcakes (make your own or by store-bought)

    Directions:

  • Pick a coffee cup large enough for a 4 inch Styrofoam ball or half ball to fit snug and inside and won’t move around.
  • Place Styrofoam ball on top of a couple squares of green tissue paper and press down into cup.
  • Press a toothpick down into the Styrofoam ball on one side, but make sure it still points upward somewhat so the cupcake won’t slide off.
  • Press a cupcake on top of the toothpick.
  • Continue process around the side and in the middle.
  • Add additional pieces of tissue paper around the sides, if desired.

Notes:  I happened to buy all these supplies in-store at Walmart, including the cupcakes, and made sure the Styrofoam half ball I bought fit super tight in the cup when I was picking one to use. I think this same idea could work inside a decorative bowl, or small flower pot too! We had no issues transporting them and the cupcakes did not fall off in the car. Yay!

How cute would these be as a thoughtful gift for Teacher Appreciation, a Birthday, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, or as creative centerpieces at showers or parties? I LOVE how ADORABLE these cupcake flower bouquets turned out and also how quick they were to compile!

Precious! Love that it all came from Walmart. My kids were really into helping me with my plants/veggies last year so I think I will look for cute flower pots and put some seed packets in the bottom. Thanks for the idea!

A couple years back I decide to make these for mothers day. I did a test and they looked fabulous; but in a day the cupcakes were all dried out from the tooth picks. any ideas how to fix.

    • rosi

Maybe you could frost the toothpick too

    • julie

Were they wood toothpicks? I’d guess the wood would absorb moisture, so maybe plastic toothpicks might work better.

  17. jennifer

Maybe soak the toothpicks in a simple syrup solution. I have made the bigger bouquets using a melon for the styrofoam so maybe you could use a grapefruit or large orange and soak the toothpicks in juice. I love the idea of miniature bouquets, thanks Lina!

  18. Lisa

  20. Tosha

Hi there! I love this idea and am planning to make 4 of these as Valentine’s gifts for my daughter’s teachers. I’m wondering if anybody has suggestions on how to pack & cover these individually for transport? Thank you in advance!

    • Christine

Tosha you can probably go to Michael’s and get the clear cellophane wrapping paper, they sale this year round and I think this would be perfect, you would be able to see inside and just use a small rubber band to close it up at the top and then tie a pretty ribbon around it. I think I will looking around at some second hand stores such as Goodwill to see if I can find any of the big mugs, it would be cheaper

  21. LC

    I love this idea

    • Lina D

      Thanks LC!

  22. Helen in Meridian

The point is the mug is adorable, love the Pioneer Woman. I dollar store mug is so so so, and teachers get tons of them. Buy a Lovely Mug you would want yourself. We just ate our oatmeal out of the lovely floral bowls.

  23. Susan

Thanks for sharing! This is so adorable!

  24. Paula

You could even put tea or other goodies under the styrofoam!

  25. T5iJenn

What a cute idea! I’m pinning this for when I need a small gift! 🙂
