Awesome, so glad you were able to grab one, Sandy! 🙂

I can’t recommend this trash can. Bought it a while back when it was a deal here. Worked great for about two months then nothing. Company wanted me to mail it back for warranty service. Postage would have been more than I paid.

I don’t have this but have seen a neighbor use this for a couple of months and then saw her starting to open it manually and use it coz she said it needed battery replacement and has been that way forever. Glad I didn’t buy it as was looking for a stainless steel one to match my appliances but now happy with the step on trash can that I have.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Darn! Sorry to hear it did not work for long Steph 🙁 Thanks for the honest feedback!

I have had this can for a year now. No problems. Warning, you get into the habit of waving your hand over garbage cans that are NOT auto too!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Lol! Thanks for the heads up!

  4. Liz

Mine stopped working in 4 months…and the CS was useless…be warned…not worth the $30

Now i bought a tramontina stainless steel step can, and omg its beautiful …sams club has it at $60

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Bummer! Thanks for the honest review Liz!

We have one similar. A few months of use and 16 batteries later, I’m wishing I didn’t buy it. The worst part is my hubby thought it was stupid and I loved it…now I can’t throw it away with pride LOL!

I have simple human touch less trash can. I got it from Kroger on clearance for $60. Its been 2 years now going great very pleased with the quality and product.

  7. Amy

I’ve had a good experience with this trash can for about 6 months now. I guess it’s a hit or miss with this one. The only issue I’ve had is that my toddler figured out how to use it…yeah, it’s in the pantry now.

    • Hannah (Sensational Sidekick)

Glad you have had a good experience, Amy!

    Costco has a similar one!

I had a set of these when we moved into our house. It has been 4.5 years and they are still going strong. I think I changed the batteries once or twice only. We left them outdoor for about a year or so because it smelled (it doesn’t have a liner – a big cons) then we took it back inside and were surprised that it still worked. I even wash the top part sometimes lol.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awesome to hear they have worked well over the years Hannah!

  10. Shanel

I got this last year and after a few months, we have to open it manually. Changed the batteries, but didn’t help. What a waste!

The can itself is great. The lid quit working after 6 months. Plus our German Shepherd figured out how to use motion sensor and help himself to garbage treats lol. I still use the can without a lid as a trash can in the laundry room lol.

I have had a similar one that I bought from Walmart in 2009 for $80. Still works. Battery replacement is typical considering it’s “on” 24/7. Sensor issues just require cleaning the entire underside of the lid. Any other issues were always easily solvable. I was very surprised this lasted 8 years. I definitely didn’t expect it to. In the end it’s hit or miss. Lots of factors. How often used, even climate can affect it, and quality of the van itself. I bought this for almost 3x this price. And I have never gone back to a regular trash can in my kitchen. Also, my can has moved with me through three moves. Again it’s hit or miss.

Could anyone tell me, if the battery dies and you open it manually, does the lid stay up on its own? The sensor isn’t very important to me, because it’s the best price I have seen for a stainless steel can. I just want the lid to stay up so I can use both hands to scrape the garbage into it. I really appreciate anyone thaat

I bought a similar one, the brand is Nine Star, it sells for around $50 on amazon, but definitely worth it. battery has lasted for ever, and really blocks out smell.

    • Gail

I’d be interested in this info too!

  14. Lori

I have had mine for about a year but I use a AC adapter. It goes through D batteries very quickly. I’ve had no problems with it.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Good to know it has worked well for you Lori!

  15. Sarah

Costco had the same size in store (different brand) on sale for $39.99 ($10 off)

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Cool find Sarah! Thanks for the heads up!
