Is this really worth the investment??

    • Carrie

Same question. .. is this really going to save me money in the long run? I hear those bags are pricey.

Also is this a decent model?

      • Jaime

Kohl’s sells them, with sales and 30% Q, it might compete with Amazon

    • Jessi

Yes!! I use mine ALL the time. When mine dies I will be going to buy a new one that day. The mason jar attachment is my favorite. I like to buy meat in bulk at Sam’s, make 10 pounds of spaghetti meat (or tacos or chili or baked ziti) seal it and freeze it in 1 pound increments, then thaw for a quick, homemade meal.

Honestly, I bought mine last year (different model) and its been sitting in storage until about a week ago. I can’t believe I didn’t try it on sooner. For some reason I thought it was going to be complicated and laborious but it turned out to be the opposite. I make my dog food and portion out, then freeze it. So simple. I’ve frozen pizza dough, bread, tomato sauce, meat, etc. I’m still on the first roll, but I went to Amazon and I’ve seen generic rolls that work with foodsaver and they’re so much cheaper. Honestly, for this price, I think it’s well worth it. I payed $70 for mine.

It is worth the investment! I have a different model and had the same question before buying it. First of all if you don’t wanna invest into a new unit to see if it work for you, try buying one off of ebay, like used, etc. The bags are pricey but I buy generic rolls from ebay as well. Just dont go for really cheap ones and/or ones selling from China 😀 prolly thats where all bags/rolls come from anyways, but just do your research. It’s really worth it, it keeps everything frozen/fresh for much longer, especially during summer with all those extra veggies from garden 🙂

      • Jaime

How does it work sealing fresh veggies? Do you put back in refrigerator? Freeze them? How much longer do they last? We are considering trying one of those CSA’s this summer…..

This pic is funny to me. There’s a lot of thought & care that went into packing up & labeling that little 1/2c of beanss.

    • Workaholic

      Lol 😀

we have this exact model that we got when Amazon had it for $ 89. (so it’s killing me to see it this cheap!) for anyone who is debating whether you should get it…. GET IT. it’s awesome. When you get the big packs of chicken, ground beef, etc on sale, you can parse out your portions and cut the bags to size. We actually just bought 2 whole rib eyes that we cut and put in the food saver bags. We are still on the original roll that came with it…. and it’s been about 3 months. they last a long time because you’re cutting them to size. We have been thrilled with ours and I couldn’t be happier that we bought it. Since we buy meat in family packs, we were finding that we did get freezer burn on stuff….. this eliminates it. It also compacts your packs so that it does take up less freezer space. You can buy the bags at Sams in a big family pack, or at Walmart, and they’re very reasonable. it’s work the investment. I hope this helps someone! 🙂

    • Carrie

Thank you! I just bought it. 🙂 You had me at freezer burn lol.

  6. Aubrey

I’m pretty sure I saw the bags and other foodsaver products on clearance at target last night!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Cool find! Thanks for the heads up!

I have one of the older models and did get a newer one last year at Target during Christmas season when they had the 15 or 20% off kitchen appliance cartwheel and there was a $20 off MC so got the $80 one for around $33 but this one has a lot more features for $49.00 and I like it. I did not know there were generic bags for the Foodsaver unit, I buy mine when they are on sale for BOGO on their sight. I think I will try to sale the one I got and get this one!!

  8. Susi

I get the generic rolls and bags off Amazon super cheap. IMO they are equivalent to the name brand. We purchase meat in bulk and also have a huge veggie & fruit garden each year. This machine is a cash saver!! Foods stay as fresh as the day you put them in the freezer, no burn, no tossing away food you paid good money for! If mine died today I would replace it immediately….definitely worth the investment

  9. Amy

I have this same model and love it! ebates is also 4% cash back 🙂 Just ordered one for my mom.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Glad to hear how much you have liked yours Amy! Awesome that you could snag one for your mom!
