Redbox is America’s go-to spot for inexpensive, convenient movie rentals – and they’re located on just about every corner. In fact, there are over 42,000 little red kiosks in the United States! We’re sharing several Redbox money-saving tips you’ll want to know about before you rent your next flick.
1. Sign up for emails and get a free rental.
Whenever you sign up for Redbox Emails (new members only), you’ll receive special offers in your inbox every week. Plus, whenever you confirm your email address, you’ll score a FREE 1-night DVD rental promo code in your inbox, valid for 2 weeks after signing up. You can also use your points towards a Blu-ray Disc or video game.
If you happen to have more than one email address (consider asking your hubby and/or kids to sign up with their email addresses!), be sure to sign up under each email account as you’ll receive a FREE 1-day DVD rental per email address! Note that these codes are one-time use and you can only use one code per transaction.
2. Join Redbox Perks for rewards.
Whenever you join the free Redbox Perks rewards program, you will also get a FREE 1-night DVD rental that will show up as 1,500 points in your account within 48 hours of signing up. Plus, you’ll also earn the following perks and rewards for each level:
Member (<10 paid rentals/purchases):
- Free 1-night DVD rental welcome offer
- Extra promos/special deals
- Free 1-night DVD rental for your birthday
Star (10-19 paid rentals/purchases):
- Extra promos/special deals

Legend (50+ paid rentals/purchases):

- Free 1-night Disc rental for your birthday
- Anniversary gift – 5 free Blu-Ray upgrades per year
- Early updates and alerts on new releases
- Bonus points days (3x per year)
- 750 points for buying pre-rented movies (for every $5 spent)
- 1,000 points for buying pre-rented video games (for every $5 spent)
Once you reach a level, you’ll be in it for the remainder of that year – plus the next year! For example, if you become a Superstar in March, you’ll be a Superstar for the rest of that year and all of the following year. If you keep renting and purchasing enough to become a Legend, you’ll level up and be a Legend for the rest of that year and the next.
How to earn points with Redbox Perks:
- 100 points/night for every paid DVD rental
- 125 points/night for every Blu-ray rental
- 125 points/transaction for every On Demand rent/buy transaction
- 150 points for every 4K UHD rental
- 150 points when you download Redbox mobile app
- 150 points when you add a credit card to your profile
- 200 points when you complete every section of your profile
- 200 points/night for every video game rental
- 250 points when you enter your mobile number and a pin
- 500 points for every friend you refer (up to 5) that signs up as a new member & makes a rental/purchase and your friend gets a FREE 1-night disc rental after their first rental/purchase!)
Points needed to redeem rewards with Redbox Perks:
- 1,500 points = FREE 1-night DVD rental
- 1,750 points = FREE Blu-ray rental
- 2,500 points = FREE 1-night Game rental
3. Join Redbox+ for as low as 84¢ per month.
Redbox now offers a premium paid membership program. Redbox+ offers two basic plans which include free 1-night rentals of DVDs, Blu-Ray or 4K UHD disks, and an extended return window until midnight local time at no extra charge.
Note that a Redbox account is required. You can cancel at any time at redbox.com/account. Refunds are available if canceled within the first 30 days with no benefits used.

4. Download the Redbox App for rewards.
Rent on-the-go! Whenever you download the FREE Redbox Mobile App, you’ll earn 150 bonus Perks Points. Plus, you’ll be able to reserve movies & games ahead of time to conveniently pick up at the kiosk.
You’ll also earn 150 Redbox Perks points for adding a credit card to your profile, 200 points for completing every section of your profile, and 250 points when you enter your mobile number/pin.

5. Join the Redbox Text Club.

6. Squeeze the most time out of your rental.
Making a late-night trip to Redbox? To get the most time out of your rental, consider waiting until after midnight (try 12:01AM) to rent or confirm your reservation. If you rent at 12:01AM today, you have until 9PM tomorrow evening to return the movie, which is almost TWO full days to enjoy it!
7. Watch for promotions at the grocery store.
Planning to buy popcorn at the grocery store for a movie night? If so, consider buying specially marked boxes of Jolly Time popcorn that include a FREE Redbox rental code inside the box!

8. Look for discounts at the kiosk.
This trick may not work every time, but it has worked many times for us on previous trips. Just add one rental to your cart and hit “Checkout” on the kiosk – even if you’re already planning to get two.

9. Follow Redbox on social media for promotions.
Be sure to follow Redbox on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as they often give out Redbox codes for FREE or discounted movie or video game rentals.

Whenever you redeem that code on DoorDash.com, you’ll receive a FREE Redbox movie rental code in your inbox, valid for a DVD, Blu-ray, 4K UHD, or video game rental.
And you can do this promotion up to three times! Your code is valid for up to 3 FREE $0 delivery fees from DoorDash. After using the code on your first order, it will auto-populate on DoorDash.com for your 2nd and 3rd order. If you forget your code, you can re-enter your email address to retrieve it.

11. Return Redbox movies in different cities.
“Are. We. There. Yet????”…sound familiar? If you’re planning a long road trip and have a movie player in your vehicle, Redbox can be a lifesaver! Since you can return your rental to ANY Redbox kiosk across the country, and because there are over 42,000 kiosk locations, this is a great way to keep kids entertained in the back seat for hours.
As an idea, you could rent a movie in the morning in Texas, and return it in the afternoon and rent another movie in Louisiana. How convenient! 🙌🏻

12. Buy discounted Redbox eGift cards.
Rent movies often? Before heading to the box, check sites like Groupon or Gift Card Granny first to buy a discounted Redbox eGift card as you’ll save around 4-6% or more. Note that these gift cards sell out very quickly, so be sure to check back often if they’re out of stock.

Although this isn’t technically a money-saving tip, it’s a great way to pay it forward and make someone smile! 😁 The next time you’re returning your movie to the Redbox kiosk, consider leaving a buck inside the case for the next person so they can buy movie snacks or put it towards a rental.

How it works: Once you have signed up, each time you take out a rental from your local kiosk you earn reward points. Once you have rented 10 movies or games, you will earn a free rental. You also get one extra free rental a year, on your birthday and a subsequent one on the anniversary of the day you signed up with PlayPass.
Just to let everyone know that when you sign up for this, not all movies are included. Only Redbox + movies so no new releases. I am also disappointed that now most of the new release you can only watch on demand and not rent at the kiosk.
