The promo code will expire 2 weeks after issuance.

Making a late-night trip to Redbox? To get the most time out of your rental, consider waiting until after midnight (try 12:01AM) to rent or confirm your reservation. If you rent at 12:01AM today, you have until 9PM tomorrow evening to return the movie, which is almost TWO full days to enjoy it!

6. Watch for promotions at the grocery store.

Planning to buy popcorn at the grocery store for a movie night? If so, consider buying specially marked boxes of Jolly Time popcorn that include a FREE Redbox rental code inside the box!

7. Look for discounts at the kiosk.

This trick may not work every time, but it has worked many times for me on previous trips. Just add one rental to your cart and hit “Checkout” on the kiosk – even If you’re already planning to get two.

Many times, if you wait a few minutes before paying for your rental, you may see a pop-up box on the screen offering you a discount if you add an additional movie or game to your order! Instant savings!

8. Follow Redbox on social media for promotions.

Follow Redbox on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as they often give out Redbox codes for FREE or discounted rentals. Plus, Instagram users can enter their Weekly Giveaways for a chance to win FREE Combo Packs, Movies, Prize Packs, and more – just answer in the Giveaway comments section.

9. Return Redbox movies in different cities.

Redbox Road Trip

“Are. We. There. Yet????”…sound familiar?

If you’re planning a long road trip and have a DVD player in your vehicle, Redbox can be a lifesaver! Since you can return your rental to ANY Redbox kiosk across the country, and because there are over 41,500 kiosk locations, this is a great way to keep the little ones entertained in the back seat for hours.

As an idea, you could rent a movie in the morning in Texas, return it in the afternoon in Louisiana, and rent another movie in Mississippi that evening. How convenient! 🙌🏻

10. Buy discounted Redbox eGift cards.

Rent movies often? Before heading to the box, check Raise.com first and buy a discounted Redbox eGift card as you’ll save around 4-6% or more! Every little bit helps!

Plus, Redbox eGift Cards and promo codes make great gifts! Check out these fun and free printables that make it super easy to gift Redbox promo codes to teachers, neighbors, or any movie lover!

Redbox Pay it Forward

Although this isn’t technically a money-saving tip, it’s a great way to pay it forward and make someone smile! 😁 The next time you’re returning your movie to the Redbox kiosk, consider leaving a few dollars inside the case for the next person so they can buy movie snacks or other rentals.

Just be sure not to cover up the barcode on the DVD as that will cause the movie to not be rented until it is fixed by a Redbox employee. Also, be sure to share and tag your good deed to social media with #RedboxPayItForward! While the tag isn’t often used anymore, if anyone can revive this HIP way to make someone’s day, it’s our generous community of readers!  😍

Happy Renting! 🍿

That’s a great idea to use redbox for road trips!!!

  2. Deb

The 10th idea sounds great, but since Redbox movies can be returned to any box, they rely on their workers to physically move popular movies from one place to another, so they get distributed evenly. I wonder how much of the “snack money” finds its way into the pockets of their employees?

    • Tara

Was thinking that same thing!! I see redbox employees at the kiosks often!

    • Sara

Just because it’s a different recipient than originally intended doesn’t mean you’re not paying it forward.

    • Laura

When you catch Redbox employees stocking the kiosk, they actually will give out free promo codes for the inconvenience that they’re making you wait. I’ve always found them to be super nice and some of them put in a few dollars into some of the movie cases themselves.

Something I have noticed is when I am browsing for a movie I add it to my cart then go look for another movie but don’t add it to my cart. Almost every time I get an offer for 50 cents off!

    • Amber

I was gonna offer this tip, too! Before choosing a second movie, push check out and more often than not an offer will pop up for 50 cents off. The only drawback is that it usually doesn’t include new releases.

  4. Jessica

I love the Play Pass.. I’m constantly renting games for my nephews Xbox so it pays off 🙂 I also like their emails because they always come with coupons!

  5. Kerryiu

Ooh, I never thought about renting at 12:01 AM. Now I gotta start doing that!

  6. bb

certain food products i.e. microwave popcorn at times have codes for a free rental.

    • Grey

YES! JOLLYTIME Popcorn – check the sides of the box for the redbox logo – it will have a free movie code in it. Also, you can send in 3 upcs to exchange for different stuff. I have gotten a lot of reusable bags for free. Also, each thing they send you comes with more coupons for more popcorn!

  7. Sandy M.

I buy codes on the internet and pay about 10 cents for each. (Sadly sometimes the movie we get isn’t even worth that!!)

  8. candace

You also earn the playpass points on your free rental codes. Sometimes around Christmas there’s so many free rental codes I’ve earned a free credit off of free rentals 🙂

Watch ur late fees from redbox. I never return movies late but i was sick and it was 9:30 the night they were due. Took them back the next night just before 9. 2 movies was $8. Now i have to call and get it adjusted. I used a promo b1g1 for first night. Should have 2 late fees. Which should be $4.50 plus tax. I wont be using them again.

    • Kim McChesney

I noticed that too. I returned late one time after using a B1G1 code and not only did they charge me for a second day (which I expected), but they made it so it was like I never used the B1G1 code at all. I guess the codes completely cancel out if you keep the movies more than one night? I couldn’t find that small print anywhere.

  10. Terri Marks

You can get a free rental using your Kellogg’s Family Rewards points!

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

Hi Carol! I tried each of the codes and they did not say they were invalid or expired, but just not valid for my location. I think they are still valid but for selection areas. Hope that helps! 🙂
