  12. Ej

I bought a bunch from amazon shipped from China. It took 4 weeks to come but the kids don’t put them down. Mine were from 2.50 – 5.00. Very cool shapes.

  13. Jeni

    What are they??

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

It is a popular toy used to help reduce anxiety and stress relief.

  14. JuliaH

They have these at my local Tom Thumb stores at the register. I don’t remember how much they are but just in case someone REALLY wants one they have them there!

  15. Amy

5 below advertises that they have these for $5. However, my store has been sold out for awhile.

  16. Pirate princess mommy

As a teacher, these things are HORRIBLE

    • Amy

They’re not horrible when they’re used by kids who really need them. They aren’t a fad, they actually serve a purpose. They’re for kids who have ADD, ADHD, anxiety issues, etc. It gives them something to fidget with without distracting classmates, in theory. It’s a shame parents are letting their kids use these for fun rather than their intended purpose. Again, ruining things for those who can actually benefit from them.

      • Heather B.

I see these as being a benefit to all children. Anything that catches their attention and has them excited is a positive. The idea they are “ruining” it, doesn’t actually make a lot of sense. Any child with an iep should already have this listed in it if it’s being used for that purpose, ensuring even if a school banned them, they would still be allowed to utilize it.

      • AP

As I mentioned above, I had never seen or heard of this before. I just grabbed a couple because it looked like a good deal, and I could add them to the gift closet or save them for stocking stuffers or something. I just assumed it was the 2017 alternative to a stress ball. I say all this to say many parents may not be “ruining” it on purpose, please don’t shame people and assume the worst.

        • Amy

I am a teacher and these have become a huge frustration for us. The problem is with parents of children with no therapeutic need who allow their children to bring them to school, bc then it’s simply a toy. Any toy is an awful distraction. To be clear, I am not saying that is their purpose or that these don’t offer a huge benefit to children with specific needs. I’m referring to how most kids use them now. Just be smart in anything you allow your kid to bring into the classroom. I see no reason anyone should be shamed for purchasing them. They are quite mesmerizing 🙂

      • t.cooper

That was my thoughts exactly. I just didn’t want to be the one saying it. So thank you very much for putting that out there.

    • N

I agree, they are a distraction in the classroom when you have half the class playing with them during instruction.
Also, I noticed a lot of young people playing with them during church service on Sunday.

      • Happymama

My autistic son (who looks neurotypical) has them during church as well as a note pad for drawing. It looks like he pays ZERO attention but he can repeat back the entire sermon better than most adults. These are great for kids who need them. Remember, everyone has different needs. 😀

        • MommySpendsLess

I’m neurotypical but I’ve always found it difficult to focus on spoken word alone without my internal dialogue taking over. In my high school pre-calculus course I found I could concentrate better on what the teacher was saying if I was just a tiny bit distracted by coloring in a coloring book (this was 2000, years before adult coloring books became popular as stress relievers). I was 4th in my class of about 800 students and a friend who ended up graduating valedictorian also colored so the teacher allowed it for a while. Eventually she decided that the other students wouldn’t understand/would use it as an excuse to do other things in class and asked us not to bring them anymore. Long story short I completely understand how being “distracted” can help a person concentrate!

          • Michelle

It’s proven that kids that actually need these (add, adhd, asd, anxiety, etc) if they are distracted by things such as this or doodling, they learn more and perform better.

      • Michelle

If they aren’t needed and being abused you’re right, but for those that need it, be accepting.

    • Happymama

Do they make noise? I could see that being a problem in class. My son is autistic and his teacher requests that he has fidget toys for class. It keeps him from picking his nails. I have also found that even though it looks like he is paying zero attention when he has a fidget, he can actually repeat virtually everything back the teacher said. It helps him relax and concentrate. For some kids, these are great, though I can see how it might be distracting for neurotypical children. It’s interesting how different children are in how they learn best. Cheers.

    • Joy

I’ve heard that schools are banning these, but I’m curious why? They seem pretty harmless.

      • pirateprincessmommy

They absolutely make noise. Some of them also light up and flash different color lights. Do some kids need them? ABSOLUTELY. Do they serve a purpose? YES. Does everyone who has one use it for the intended purpose? NO WAY.

  17. sla1981

    Sold out.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Still available from ebay! Hope this helps!

  18. Laura W

For those who don’t shop EBay regularly you may want to check out this sellers feedback. WAY too many negatives. Being one that shops EBay daily practically, because of that I would not buy anything from this seller. That’s just me 🙂

  19. Nee

They sell them by the registers at Michaels too.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh cool! Thanks for the heads up!

  20. Ann

Our school just sent a letter to parents telling them these are not allowed at school and are considered toys.

  21. Kathy

My son loved making his own from K’nex!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

How neat! Thanks for sharing Kathy!

  22. Jess

They were banned at my daughters school because they are a distraction in class. I think they are fun for home.

  23. melloddie

My boys school already banned these. Walmart has lots of them.

  24. 4ella

I went the other day to at least 10 stores and no one had it but my son wanted it so bad. I found fake one at 7eleven and got it for $8.99 they were taking advantage of people by overcharging!

  25. Heather B.

We bought ours at sports zone (Albany ny area) and five below also sells them. Call ahead of time. Associates there told me they’ve been selling out within an hour once people know a shipments coming. We paid $6.99, but prices vary. Watch for how long the eBay sellers say on the shipping. When we looked it was one to two weeks shipping.

  26. Lel

Some of the teachers are banning them. I am sure the school will formally ban them soon. My son has add and is constantly picking up objects and fidgeting with them. I can understand how several kids in a classroom playing with these would be detrimental overall.

  27. Anthony

They are $1 on ebay with free shipping.

    • Anthony

Never mind, that’s for an empty box? Who sales an empty box?

      • Sarah

😂😂😂 Just goes to show you can sell anything on eBay!!

  28. rn30032

I’m in metro Atlanta and just yesterday the news did on special on how these can come apart and pose a choking hazard..beware

  29. Barb

Do yourself a favor, appreciate teachers and for teachers appreciation week don’t buy these! Such a nightmare… Kids are totally distracted with these in school… Have taken away from the true purpose of a fidget for those who really need it and totally become an annoying toy! Being confiscated every day in my school.

  30. Sav

I’ve found these to be very distracting in the classroom. It’s hard to use them without catching the interest or eyes of surrounding students. My son wanted one to play with as a toy (kids do balancing tricks with them), so he used his allowance to buy one. We don’t allow it at school, and he’s already lost most interest–especially after getting sick staring at the spinner during a car ride and throwing up once we were home. 🙂

  31. L.R

I bought 6 pack of fidget spinners for $4.79 on Amazon. Free shipping with prime

    • Steph

Cant find that deal…can you add the link or maybe the title so I can search. Thank You!

      • L.R

Sorry for the late reply. I just checked and they are out if stock for Amazon prime they have some from third party sellers but they aren’t really good deals.

  32. Jai

Just got one at Walgreens for $5.99

    • emmasmom

      Thanks!

  33. Holly

Just the thought of watching one of these makes me nauseous.

  34. Josh

I teach and these are a huge distraction to all students. Keep them at home unless your child actually needs them and the teacher/school approves.

    • Amy

      Yes! These are huge distraction.

  35. Kara

Are these a distraction in class? It all depends on how the teacher manages the class. I have multiple items that they use to figit with and I have never had an issue. I use tangles, I purchased a standing desk, we have for rockers, and many other items. I introduced them in class, set up my expectations, and let them use them. After about a week, most lost interest. The ones that benefit from these items still use them almost nine months later.
If your child does benefit from these items but they are unable to use them in school, I would get them tangles.
    https://www.tanglecreations.com

    • K

I totally agree. My son’s teacher allows her kids to use these in class as long as they are not a distraction to her or others. The kids are respectful of her rules so it hasn’t been a problem.

  36. RP

My son can’t stop talking about them FYI they have them at 7-11!!!

  37. Michelle

As someone with a doctorate degree in special education these are sickening me the way people are letting their kids play with them like toys. These are not toys! These are a therapeutic device for those with disabilities. When used correctly, for those that need it, they are awesome. They help a lot for those that need it. Regular kids don’t need these to play with. These are getting sold out becuase they are being used as toys so now the people that NEED them can’t get them. It’s disgusting how this therapeutic device is being abused by those that don’t need it and giving it a bad name.
To play devils advocate to myself, it is nice to see others accepting to this so special ed students don’t feel out of place, only this isn’t the intent of others.
My daughter who’s 12 wants one and I refuse to let her get one, if she need one sure but she doesn’t.

    • AP

Are you serious?!? I hope you also teach your daughter that it’s not ok to judge without knowing the whole story. The description says it’s good for stress relief, and focus. I just thought it was a neat gadget, similar to how everyone used to have stress balls on their desk. It is also referred to as a toy, so it had not (and would not) occur to me to allow it to go to school with my kids. I had no idea that it had a genuine therapeutic purpose. Relax, and don’t assume the worst about people. And you have a doctorate in special education… tsk tsk tsk.

    • Val

As someone with a Doctorate in Special Education, I do not like when some children are referred to as “regular kids.” What’s regular???

      • LR

        She means nuerotypical.

    • Lel

I think you are over reacting. I am sorry for anyone that truly needs it and can’t find it now. They are flooding the market though. Kids will turn anything into a craze and it seems harmless enough. My non-ADD daughter finds it relaxing. I don’t think it is insensitive of parents to want to buy them for their kids. It probably is something best left at home though.

    • Jaime

You have no social skills “DOCTOR”.

      .

Worry about parenting your own child!

  38. Marie

As a special needs teacher, I can vouch that even the students that these are intended for do not use them as intended. They spin them on laptops and make a ridiculous amount of noise. Then they hold them up to their face to watch the colors spin. Not only does it distract classmates, it distracts me and then I have to stop in the middle of teaching to get myself back on track. I am all for stress relief activities like coloring or other fidget gadgets like the cubes. These spinners drive me absolutely bonkers.

  39. Amy

This is interesting. My daughter is 8. She is very bright. She gets a special spelling list. She finishes her timed math test first. So when she gets her work done she gets bored so she draws on her paper, or writes stories/ jokes on the back. She often ends up in trouble for talking. I wonder if this would help her during all her down time during the school day.

  40. Heather

The Amazon ones take at least 30 days to get. Even with prime. These are available at most convenience stores and pharmacy stores. 4-6$
Just a heads up also most schools are banning them because of distractions.

  41. Smtwnkygirl

Schools are banning these because kids who do not need them are using them at school. They are already banned at some schools in my district.

  42. AR

Just heard about these from my 9 year old. So funny to see this post!

  43. Joy

There are other fidget items out there that are better alternatives for kids who really need them.I work with a high school autistic kid and all he did was stim off the spinning. So, yes, these should only be used for kids who truly need it and should only be used when the kid is truly distracted and needs to focus. Even a simple paper clip chain is a better fidget item then this spinner. And, in my science class that I’m in, our typical kids brought these in and they were a huge distraction. Not one of them was doing their classwork because they were playing with these spinners. These are high school kids we are talking about, too.

  44. Tricka

My son has ADHD, he’s 8 and has a couple of these. His teacher said it is more of a toy not an actual fidget and asked that he try something else. He’s had success with the mess fidgets that has a marble inside but many other fidgets are to loud for classrooms. I do agree that it should be for kids who really need it though because now they are being banned and the kids that would benefit lose it.

  45. Melinda

I found them of Amazon.. 3 pack for $4.98 and free shipping!

    • V

I can’t seem to find this price. Can you help?

  46. Jennifer Medina

These things have become the most distracting fad. They distract the students who use them AND the other students who don’t. The middle school I work at has banned them unless there is an IEP or 504 in place for the student.

  47. Ej

I am a teacher of middle school and these destroy the focus of any child who doesn’t have an issue to the point where they can’t focus at all. They are addicting though as I myself can’t put it down:)

  48. SJ

    Banned in my school district.

  49. Cassie C Reid

I’m a teacher too…and maybe these do work. But I don’t have 100% ADHD students and I have almost 100% of students with these toys. And they drop them. And they whistle when you spin them. And I am literally counting the days until summer.
