We love these. We live in AZ (hot!) So my kids take water to school daily. They don’t leak and water stays cold all day. Think I need the Wonder Woman container! 😊

Glad to hear how well they have worked for your family Raquel! Thanks for sharing!

As a mom who is sending her oldest to kindergarten this year, I’m trying to figure out the whole “cold lunch” thing! I have already purchased a lunchbox, insulated pouch to put the lunch box in, and ice pack. They all fit together so nicely! However, I neglected to think about a Thermos so he could have a drink. There isn’t room in the pouch to add a thermos, too. Do they make an insulated thermos (for milk) that wouldn’t require an ice pack? Or, do I buy a larger pouch that will fit both a thermos and lunch box?! I know that all you experienced moms out there will have great advice for me!! 😃 TIA

    • Natasha

I would say just throw a small juice box or Capri Sun (I know it’s not the healthiest, but the pouch is flexible and easy to pack) in there so he can just throw everything away when he is done.
Once you both get more familiar with the school and their particular lunch schedule you can adjust accordingly.

Hi, does the school sell milk? My daughter loves milk and brings her lunch daily. I put money on her account and she just grabs her milk daily for 50 cents.

      • Jennifer

I get the organic Capri suns. The drink pouches make life so much easier.

If you store his food or drink in a thermos you won’t need an ice pack. Just refrigerate it overnight and add the cold food in the morning. You can also do hot foods by adding boiling water and letting the thermos sit with the lid on for five minutes. Empty and then add food. It’ll stay warm until lunch time. Another thing I do is freeze a water bottle over night and it thaws during the day so that my son always has cold water. Hope these tips help. The thermos is definitely worth purchasing for school lunches. Otherwise, we’d all send sandwiches everyday.

Brooke- my oldest child has carried these for 2 years now in her lunch with no issues. Some of the bottles we have used for 3 years now and still in good condition. I put milk in them for 20 mo old child and it is fine all day. So no need to put in insulated box or with ice pack. You could put ice in it if really wanted to. Our cups with ice come home from school with chunks of ice still in them. Some even have a carrying handle built in to the top of them 😊 good luck with kindergarten!

      • Brooke

Thank you for ALL of your wonderful suggestions regarding my Thermos dilemma! 😊

Thank you!!! Keep the water bottle deals coming! Need to save any way I can during back to school shopping!

      You’re very welcome!

FYI the shopkins thermos is only $12 at Target vs $14.39 on amazon.

Any ideas on how to clean those cups , I bought one for my toddler a year ago and used it for water and occasionally some light juice but the straw now looks darker I tried cleaning it but no luck

    • CJ

We use ours for water 99% of the time but have occasionally done lemonade/Gatorade without staining. You can buy replacement straws but there are different styles. Some of our cups have a thicker top part, right under the lid than others. So the replacement straws sold at Walmart may or may not fit your cup. You can purchase them directly from thermos by calling them though & get the right one. (If the staining bothers you but I wouldn’t even worry about it. My 3 yr old chewed on a couple of our straws so I wanted to replace those.)

      • Dodda

Thank you , I never knew there are replacement pieces to buy , mine were not just stained they were moldy and off course that’s not healthy to use

    • Laurie

Oxo makes a set of brushes designed to clean waterbottles and straws. I use that, and bleach water to clean my Funtainer straws and bottles (every few weeks or as needed). Thermos sells replacement parts for all these bottles- even replacement tops, if the lid breaks! Very cheap parts and reasonable (or free?) shipping. I am happy to keep replacing parts instead of sending our old Thermoses to the landfill. 🙂 I’ve even scrubbed off the character designs using a magic eraser when they get all scratched up. That way we can keep using the plain Thermos.

      • Jennifer

yep, that is what I was going to suggest. Seen them at Bed Bath & Beyond for sure. My mom told me about a time that she just about laughed until she cried when she saw my dad freak out once he realized that he had been drinking oj every day out of a straw that was not cleaned properly & had NASTY stuff inside of it. SOOOO DISGUSTING! Glad he learned that lesson for us…WON’T BE MAKING THAT MISTAKE! Ewwww!

  6. CJ

I saw these on sale at Walmart for around 10.88 with the school supplies. They are regularly about 12.99 at Walmart. Love these cups. We have a lot of them. All 3 of my kids use them for school lunches & we also use them for outings. They don’t leak and keep drinks cold.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Great find! Thanks for the heads up!

The R2D2 lunch bags are pretty cool!!! The beeping and lights are nice and clear. It held up for a little over a year for my husband to carry his vape juice. We’re lucky if he gets 6 months out of most bags/boxes so it’s made pretty well.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Cool! Thanks so much for your feedback!

Which size lunch pack do u recommend for 2nd grade kids?

    • Jen

The Pottery Barn Kids Classic Lunchbox is the perfect size for a 2nd grader. It even has a mesh holder on the outside for a thermos. They have some on sale now with free shipping, and they hold up very nicely! You can easily get a couple years use out of them.

  9. KR

Ours is used for water only, but we get mold in the bend of the straw that I wasn’t able to get rid of with with a customer tip or even boiling. Advice?

    • 2indiapers

I use the small bottle brushes on ours. I think it’s munchkin that makes a cheap set of 5 dif sizes. (They also make one that is longer and you pull all the way through)

    • Laurie

See my remarks above to Doda. I use Oxo brushes designed for water bottles, and bleach water. HTH!

    • Cassie

I have had one of these for three school years now with the same straw. We just bleach it occasionally and empty/wash it every day so the water doesn’t have time to sit in the straw. Bleach is the way to go for sanitizing!

I see a lot of people asking about replacement straws. I recently bought the straws that fit in the Ozark trail mugs and they come with a tiny cleaning brush for the straws. I mostly bought it for the brush lol.. I’m sure you could use it for any standard size straw, I even use it on the thermos ones. I think the 4 pack with the brush was less than $4 at walmart.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

What a neat find Kim! Thanks for sharing!

For STRAW / LID REPLACEMENT for the Thermos cups: the cheapest thing to do is call Thermos Customer Service at 1-800-831-9242. They sell the straw/lid replacement for $1 each. You can order up to FIVE at a time and shipping will only be $3. They were delivered to my house within a week. Amazon sells a 2 pack straw/lid replacement set for $8 – save yourself some money and call Thermos direct! Hope this helps some! 🙂

    • Dodda

I found the 2 pack at Target for 4.99 so if you are ordering only 2 it will be the same but it is worth it if you need more ..thanks for the advice

I inherited a pair of these thermos bottles from my sister, since her kids got older & had outgrown them. They still work great & although the pictures have worn off on the front of the bottle, there are no defects whatsoever. It keeps the water/milk, etc cold for a long time. For the duration of school, you should have no issues with the drink staying cold inside the container. She did order the replacement straws from Thermos directly, so it was like having a new bottle for my two toddlers. I would say her bottles are about 10 years old, when Toy Story first came out & her son was a toddler & obsessed with the movie. So for those you on the fence, these are really durable containers & the straws are easy to replace if they become damaged or stained. They also keep the water cold for a long time. Also, it’s easy for the toddlers to open by pushing the button on the front. I would recommend buying the craft pipe cleaners & push it through the straw to clean out any reside that gets stuck inside. Hope this helps!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awesome to hear how well they hold up! Thanks for the helpful feedback!

  13. Amanda Roos

Thanks for posting! My kiddos love these! My 4yo made a point to thank me for them last night after a shopping trip with dad, “we got back in the hot car and my water was STILL COLD! Thanks for getting such cool cups” lol. Excited for new additions of Wonder Woman and Minions. Walmart still has a lot for 10.88.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

How sweet! You’re very welcome! Great to hear how much he enjoys his cup!

It says the promotion expired 🙁
