Kids shouldn’t go to boosters until 6 years or older
I should clarify..a booster that you use with a seat belt you should wait. Kids can go to a 5pt harness high back booster when they max out this seat for height and weight
Depends on height and weight. Most Kindergarten kids can safely fit in a booster. my kids are all very skinny and average height. By 4 or 5 they safely fit in a seat belt high back booster and by 8 yrs old they had safely fit in the seat belt without anything. By 8 yrs old the booster made them too tall where the seat belt no longer fit safely. No first grader should be in a 5 pt harness as their shoulders are probably above the top belt hole in 5 pt harnesses, even Diono.
My daughter is almost 4 and tall for her age. She still uses this seat and has room to spare!

My 3 year old uses this seat. It’s great, but the only thing we don’t love about it is that there’s no cup holder, so no place to hold a drink, snack, or small toys to keep him happy in the car 😕
