Brenden Powell Smith the author of these books is a transgendered atheist. If you want to get your child a bible skip this and look at the adventure bible series or Airship Genesis by David Jeremiah both are awesome kids bibles.
Thanks
After looking at reviews I understand why being an atheist is important. Even if he has studied Christianity. Many times he misrepresented he words of Jesus and God. A bible is supposed to be the Word not an opposing or conflicting message. He is quick to show graphic rape and murder which is surprisingly graphic for being Lego. But completely avoids anything good in the Bible. One blogger says. “He has missed so much opportunity to portray the heart of Jesus in his attempt at recreating the Bible with “bricks” (aka legos). Jesus wasn’t ministered to by angels until AFTER the 40 days and Satan’s temptation. This error attacks the importance of Jesus’ fast, temptation and deity.”
Is the problem with these particular books that you don’t want to financially support a transgendered atheist or that you don’t believe the content to be accurate because the author is a transgendered atheist?
I wondered the same thing. We love the Brick Bible. I hope people don’t miss out just because of misplaced angst.
I think it’s probably more that you wouldn’t want someone completely opposed to your faith to teach your kids about your faith. I don’t know the author or the book itself so I can’t comment on that per se…. but I do see her point. Just like a Jewish parent or Muslim parent would be weary of someone of an opposing and or contradicting faith/belief system to teach their kids about their faith. I think that just makes sense. That being said, I would have to look at the book to see if there was anything contradictory to my faith to judge it.
well said! I completely agree!
Exactly!
Thank you! Your statement is relevant!
Great information thanks. Simple fix. Get it, read it before you gift it. If it’s accurate and true to God’s Word, you are good to go. How awesome If it is. It’s only a matter of time before God works miracles in the creators life.
“It’s only a matter of time before God works miracles in the creators life.”
Maybe.
In the meantime, I would hesitate to buy a Bible that needs to be carefully scrutinized for error. Why take a chance like that on your kids and building their firm foundation?
In life we develop sources that we feel we can trust. Not blindly trust. But trust. There are too many good options for Bible instruction to take a chance on something that is “iffy” just because it might be “cool”.
What works for some doesn’t work for others. Some make time, some don’t. You pick what’s important to you. As long as the message is accurate (and you won’t know that on any sound author unless you read it yourself) that is all that matters.
Those who believe in Christ as their personal Lord and Savior are all getting to heaven. Doesn’t matter the journey you took to get there.
Merry Christmas.
Yikes, thanks for sharing this, Natasha.
Thank you for sharing this information, Natasha.
I clicked on the comments section of this post just to see if someone would say something ridiculous….. you did not disappoint Natasha
Crazy – yes. I am like you. I like to read the comments for ridiculous stuff. Or completely unsubstantiated criticism. Of which you do not disappoint.
Thanks for pointing this out, Natasha..my son has the Bible by David Jeremiah and we like it too.
Thank you!
You’re welcome!
The Action Bible is great too. Around $11 at Barnes and Noble and Christianbook.
We own both the Brick Bible & Action Bible, Action Bible (comic strip illustration) is the favorite hands down. The illustrations in the Action Bible are captivating. Just FYI, Brick Bible has some more questionable images for young readers & is very heavy. Our kids don’t prefer it for any other reason than it’s not as visually appealing or easy to carry/use.
This is a really captivating way to educate kids on the bible. Thanks for sharong.
*sharing
You’re so welcome!
There is a building block nativity set that we have. It’s 19.99 on amazon .
Love these – thank you!
You’re welcome Michelle!
I think it’s important to note a statement that the author has made before spreading any hateful information in the hip 2 save community. Brenden Powell Smith has studied the Bible, ancient Christianity and Judaism, and is motivated by the belief that all people whether believers or not, are better off knowing the content of the scriptures. To me this doesn’t sound like the author has ill intent. And I have to say my children love the LEGO bible, they actually WANT to read it!
I’m not sure what “hateful” information was spread but I’m sure you can see the conflict of interest and any Christian Parent I’m sure would also agree that they are going to want the Bible taught to their children by someone who shares their same faith. Just because you study the Bible does not mean you understand it
1 Corinthians 2:14
The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.
I couldn’t agree more
Fantastic point and well said Natasha. Ask anyone in the world, “Does anyone really want any bible in their home right now, wrote by someone of a conflicting faith than you (or even better, that has no faith at all) for you and your children to focus on?!! Raise of hands?!!!” I love legos too but I’d still have to do a double take on this and have it viewed by a minister etc. For accuracy because if it’s not accurate, this is so wrong for Christians to have a cutesy fake bible.
agree Natasha!
Natasha, great post. Well said…because you used what God said.
And…I too am disappointed that a well intentioned, reasonable expression of information and caution is branded hateful. {Dismayed} {Not really}
2 Timothy 2:15 – 15 “Make every effort to present yourself approved to God, an unashamed workman who accurately handles the word of truth.”
So handling the word of truth also involves living the word of truth. Separate the two and you will eventually have error. Or worse.
I called Natasha’s post “hateful” because she brought up the fact that the author is transgender. Homophobia is a clear form of hate, even if you say it’s because you are a christian and the Bible tells you to believe what you do. You could have just said the person was atheist, validating why you believe they shouldn’t write a book about anything Christian.
Transgendered and homosexual are two different things. I can’t be homophobic towards a person who is transgendered unless they are actually homosexual which I am not sure of the authors sexuality. Therefore my statement is not hateful, it is just fact. Please do t try to label me something I am not. Hope you have a nice day.
Ok Natasha, transphobic. Your need to identify a persons sexual orientation is telling, and completely unnecessary! Do you agree with people being transgender? Would it matter to you if a transgender person read your comment on hip 2 save and felt hurt by it?
Natasha, stating irrelevant facts makes your comment come across judgmental and close minded.
Great post hip2save. Thanks for the ideas!!
Holy heck I thought for sure @natasha had to be mistaken in regards to her characterization of the author but I googled it and she is correct. I agree with @R’s statement. I’m not religious but my son is and because religion places such an emphasis on faith vs fact or evidence I certainly wouldn’t want someone not of his faith teaching him about the Bible. Since I believe the Bible is so ambiguous it’s easy to insert our own views to make what we are reading fit the point we are trying to make. If I want to discredit Jesus or have an atheist take on things I can do that myself without wasting money on a LEGO book although I will say I am a little bummed my son happens to love LEGO and my Niece like Minecraft…
It looks like the Minecraft Bible has a different author than the LEGO Bible.
I do not see “LEGO” on this product.
that’s b/c it’s not a Lego item. Lego does not make this item or publish this book.
it’s an artist’s work, he works with the Lego bricks to make scenes/ tableaux of stories.
We have the brick Bible box set old & New Testament. We gifted it to our son at age 8. He loved it and read it over and over for well over a year. It’s so rare that kids are still using a Christmas gift and enjoying it just as much a year later. We do not have any issues with the content. My husband is an RCA ordained pastor so the theology is very important to us. I did always think it was funny that in the story of Cain and Abel, there is a pile of little red bricks to symbolize blood. I still don’t think that was overly graphic. But that’s up to each household to determine. At any rate there are lots of cool brick books including Shakespeare. Worth checking out for sure!
for real? wow!
Yes! Too graphic for young eyes, agreed! I know it’s real but somethings are better left to imaginations at certain ages.
Well said. They don’t need these themes in their imagination yet.
Darn! When I first read this, I thought it was a book on ways to assemble random legos! Do they make a book like that? Cause I would buy that!
🙂
yes, they make MANY books like what your are talking about. go to Amazon and search “Lego Book.”
‘The Lego Ideas Book’ ‘Awesome Lego Creations’ ‘Build It’ ‘Epic Lego Adventures with Bricks You Already Have’ etc etc
Unfortunately I would have to suggest you read this before giving it to your kids. My kids were given it as a gift and after about a week, we ended up taking it away. I knew nothing about the author so this isn’t a judgement on him but as parents who are trying to raise our kids as Christians, there was a lot that was unsettling about it and we decided to remove it. It really is too bad because it a wonderful opportunity missed to learn through the fun of Legos!
Care to share any examples of what you mean?
I read through all the reviews (there’s only about 60) and both positive and negative did say that some of the pictures are graphic or harsh for a book that’s written at a 3-5yo level; someone mentioned “blood” gushing from a man’s head, skeletons scattered around the ark, Goliath’s head on a pike, and even mentioned a graphic depiction of a circumcision (?! I’m morbidly curious about this one 😅). It sounds kind of humorous and irreverent to me, but I probably wouldn’t want my 5 year old asking me about these pictures, yet, either.
Thank you Natasha for the very helpful information and thanks Hip2Save for posting about this deal. Although I will not purchase this Bible I appreciate deals like this one. My son is in need of a KJV bible and I almost fell to the floor when I saw the words bricks and bible. Too bad this deal is not for my family.
This was such a great post, thank you again hip 2 save! I made multiple purchases and plan to donate them to Angel Tree this year. Boys especially seem to enjoy these at my church.
You’re welcome Denise!
