I can attest that these things work really well – too well. I just lost half a fingertip about a month ago from one of these! So by all means, if you are going to use it, learn from my big stupid mistake: ALWAYS use the guard! The doctor told me that she sees at least two mandolin slicer incidents per week (which is why she does not own one herself!). That said, they really do slice incredibly well 😂
I was just going to say that if someone is going to buy this get a safety glove with it. I always wear my glove when using my mandolin. I know it is not fool proof, but probably better than nothing.
I sliced my thumb badly on a mandoline 10 years ago. So much pain and blood! My husband banned them from the house after that. I use my food processor for a lot of stuff now.
Oh no! So sorry to hear about that! Thanks for the warning Kris!
It’s really no different than using a knife…except you have to use the guard when using a mandoline, friends.
No way is it like using a knife. Unless you use the mandolin at the same speed as a knife. I’ve used mandolins for over 25 years and I can use it quickly like on tv infomercials. The blade/s are very sharp, so use the guard it comes with.
I love my mandolin and use it all least once a week. One of my favorite kitchen gadgets. That being said I cut myself almost half the time I use it. 😂. Still worth it though
I love my mandolin. There are some recipes that just need those nice thin slices. Definitely need to be careful though! My last mandolin has a French fry attachment….very cool.
Thanks for the review Jillian!
Does anyone know if you can do the waffle fries slices on this kind of mandolin?
