Oh darn! Sorry to hear that 🙁

Why would someone use these companies when you can directly request from the 3 credit agencies? I’m honestly asking, Ive always just requested it, you get 1 from each free a year, is there any benefit from going through these other companies?

I think for convenience. You just enter your information online and get your score within minutes. I’ve used credit karma for years and even did my taxes with them for free last year. Fast and easy.

The benefit is that u can check ur credit report monthly to see payment status, see what open accounts are on your report (great to make sure u don’t become a victim of fraud), etc.

Don’t listen to the score they give though, they are not accurate at all!

You can directly request your credit report annually for free, but not the credit score — knowing the number is the benefit of these services.

That said, many banks and credit cards now also offer this as a free service for their customers — Citi, Bank of America, Amex, Wells Fargo — without needing to sign up for advertising.

I have a Capital One credit card that has a free service that gives me an updated score every month and also notifies me if someone runs my credit. I don’t know if any other cards offer this service too.

Yes my capital one business Platinum does and you link it with the credit wise app, also my Chase Sapphire card give free monthly score and monitoring

Chase Slate I mean, not sure about Sapphire.

Bank of America and Discover also provide credit scores for free.

Yea credit karma has been fast and easy for me as well, with no ads or emails, always a bonus.

  5. Jennifer

I actually just checked it today before I saw this. Great minds think alike. 🙂

Some may use services like Credit Sesame because pulling your free annual credit reports do not give you a score. You have to pay extra for that.
My Discover card lets me see my score and actually breaks down the 5 categories that make up my score.
Just a suggestion I’ve read many times. When pulling your free report, don’t do all 3 at the same time. Do 1 every 4 months. I pull 1 then set a reminder on my phone to pull from another credit bureau in 4 months. This way you’re not waiting an entire year to view your report and you can catch potential problems. I also pull my husbands but I will pull from a different bureau than I pulled mind from.

I get my score every month on my CC statement. I always wondered if that hurt my credit or not.

When I tried, they told me I’d answered the security questions wrong, and I wasn’t ME 😕

How odd. Maybe wait a bit and try back again.

The only site authorized to fill orders for the free annual credit reports is annualcreditreport.com
The other sites are not part of the legally mandated program. At the very least they are using data from their members. Other sites may work well for people, just note they are not the “official” site (Also note credit karma only shows 2 reports)

    • A

Yes I agree. Credit karma is good to get an “idea” of what your score may look like but definitely not meant to replace the real thing.

Bank of America also offers the credit score for their customers. The score is updated monthly.
