DIY Rae Dunn Farmhouse Style Kitchen Labels
Need to get your pantry organized? 🙋
Consider making your own vinyl decals to label all your pantry containers! 😍 I recently re-organized my pantry and made some fun Rae Dunn inspired adhesive labels for the food containers in my pantry, and love how they turned out!
Just in case you’re not familiar, Rae Dunn is a popular pottery brand featuring long skinny lettering on white canisters, bowls, plates, coffee cups, etc.
It’s easy to personalize containers yourself with this trendy farmhouse look by grabbing the free for personal use font called The Skinny. It’s the same font I used to make these personalized Christmas ornaments… NOW I’m using the same idea in the pantry! So fun!
Keep in mind if this font isn’t your style, just use a different one that you’d prefer for your labels.
My favorite part about this project is that you can customize the words for what’s in your pantry, and size them to fit your individual containers!
DIY Farmhouse Style Kitchen Labels
Supplies Needed:
- outdoor vinyl such as Oracle 651, in black
- clear transfer tape
- Cricut vinyl cutting machine
- food containers or pantry canisters (Here are the rectangle containers I use!)
Directions:
- Download the free font from dafont.com called “The Skinny”. Open Cricut Design Space and type out desired words for pantry labels. Make sure to size them to fit your containers or canisters.
- Cut lettering using vinyl and weed out the excess vinyl.
- Rub transfer tape on top of the lettering so it “transfers” to the tape.
- Place lettering onto containers, rub decal, and pull back on tape, making sure the letters are stuck to container.
I LOVE how clean and organized my little baking section looks in the pantry!
What a fun project that’s pretty easy and straightforward to accomplish. Although I used an outdoor vinyl, I’ll be hand washing my containers in the future to ensure the vinyl won’t come off.
Don’t have a Cricut or not interested in making your own?

So pretty!! But I’m too lazy to do all this.
Ha —thanks Diana
So funny, I thought the exact same thing. This does look really neat though
Me too! I have used some chalkboard labels that are often posted here to help dress up our plain containers though!
Looks great! Can you please tell me brand and size containers you are using for your flour?
Yes I linked them in the supplies list —Walmart, Better Homes & Gardens Brand. Thanks!
Thank You!!
Bought my containers and I am making my labels. Love this! Thank you so much
Brilliant! Great idea for all those who love this style font.
Thanks Nina!
Thanks for including step by step instructions!
You’re welcome!
What kind of transfer tape are you using? I make a ton of vinyl and wanted to find a cheaper brand than cricut but I tried one and it was too sticky and a fight to get it separated
Contact paper works well for me and IT’S CHEAP.
I get mine from WalMart. Very inexpensive
I love this! I’m thinking about switching my baking candister to taller ones so I don’t have to pull out two at a time or painting my current ones white and assign new labels. Thanks for the inspiration!
Oh sure! Thanks for stopping by 👍
I do not have any of the supplies you listed. Do you sell any of them? I like the way you did yours because it takes up less space. Love it!!!
The stickers at the Amazon link are $4.99 EACH. 😲 way too expensive
Someone on a App called Merci is selling labels for $5-$6 I never really heard about Rae Dunn , I seen a lot of it for sell on this app. When I seen the labels, I had to search it And how she did it .
I sell the Rae Dunn Inspired fonts on my Etsy page at: farmhousevinylco.etsy.com
Hello,
I’m hoping you can help me. I’m trying to download this font and use it on my cricut but I cannot get it to work. How did you download it and then upload it to design space?
Click download, open the file. Click Install button on upper right. Open design space. Add text. Then in the font box click on the middle “system” font. Search by font name and will be in there. Hope that helps!
I love this! I am a Rae Dunn Collector of the Large Letter series. And I made pantry labels a few years back, but I am thinking I might just have to swipe this Rae Dunn idea for my pantry!!!
Awesome! Thanks for stopping by. 😀
Love it! This is my weekend project! Thank you for providing all the steps and where you got the clear containers from! Where did you find the cute little container for the chocolate chips? Love it!
PS- Rae Dunn is now being carried in Kirkland stores for a great price! I bought a paper towel holder and utensil holder for under $25!! 🙂
Hi there – thanks so much! I think my choc chip container is from Homegoods – Just a plain white canister. Yes I love 💕 the Kirkland’s line!
I can make these if you don’t have a machine. email me shoppingmadefunforeveryone1@gmail.com
Lina- can you please tell me how tall your font on POWDERED SUGAR is? I’m trying to get a friend to make these for me- traveling for the containers cuz they’re almost sold out online I LOVE these! Ty!
They are about 2 inches tall – the container is about 3.5 inches wide.
how do I download and use for cameo?
You would just download the font that’s linked in the post and then open your program and type the words. Thanks!
Can you tell me where you got your containers?
I linked them where it says “supplies Needed” they are from Walmart 👍
I just finished making my own canister labels! Love how they turned out. This was my first time using vinyl so I’m pretty proud of myself! 🙂
That’s so great Julie! I agree it’s exciting 👏
What size of the skinny font did you use for the containers?
