I have worked with VipKid for one month and absolutely love it! I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom and I finally have found a job I can do that doesn’t take me away from my family!! I work early in the morning while my kids are asleep!! It is so fun and little to no stress. I’m telling you ladies (and guys who do VERY well at this position) I made $1k in my first month!! I was elated because I seriously felt like I hardly worked.

This is hands down the best job I’ve ever had. I get to pick my own schedule, no minimum hours, and the kids are so fun to teach!

I am also a teacher with VIPKID and I love it! It allows us the financial freedom for me to continue staying home with our kiddos AND help pay down a significant amount of debt! I love my “side hustle”.

This is an incredible company to work for – flexible, fun, profession, and perfect work from home job! I have been working with VIPKID for a few months now. I started it on a whim and quickly fell in love with it! The kids are so cute and have so much respect for their teachers. I work full time and teach either before my kids wake up or after they go to sleep. It’s wonderful! I love that I set my own hours, and you can make up to $22 an hour!!!

What are the time slots that educators can choose to teach? I hear that it’s early morning or late at night, but wondering more specifics. I really want to do this, but I’m not sure how this will work in my family’s schedule.

    • Kay

B, I am on Eastern Standard Time so peak hours for me generally start at 5am or 8pm depending on the day of the week. I prefer to have early morning availability because I am a morning person and like to not have the distraction of my children.

    • Jessica

I am in central time zone. Right now I work 6-8 am 7 days a week. (I could start earlier) And Friday and Saturday evenings starting at 7 pm. Those hours are slightly different depending on daylight savings time. It depends pretty heavily on your time zone. When you start the application process they give you an idea of what those times are for you time zone. But you can use worldtimebuddy.com to compare your time zone to Beijing. So look at after school times and weekends when they would want to have a class and then compare it to your own time zone. Hope this helps!

    • Tp

My hours are 8pm to 8 am

I usually work midnight to 2. I’m a night person.

  3. Erin

The 7.5hr minimum is not required any more. 🙂

    • Angie (Sweet Sidekick)

Thanks for the heads up, Erin! The post has been updated!

I am just over half way through my first contract with VIPKID. I LOVE IT! It has given our family some awesome opportunities that we would otherwise not have. We will be traveling the US in an RV – WHILE still working for VIPKID. You can be entirely location independent . There are teachers all over the world and many that travel full time while still teaching. I currently stay home with our children and homeschool. This job allows me to work early in the day or late in the day without disrupting our regular schooling and life activities. I have enjoyed my entire experience and would be happy to help others along. If you use this referral link it will notify me and I will contact you soon! https://t.vipkid.com.cn/?refereeId=8343944&refersourceid=a01

How neat! Good to know you can work almost anywhere! Thanks for taking a moment to comment Jessica!

  5. C

I am very interested in applying for VIPKIDS. However, I am not a native english speaker. Is the program available for people like me? Thank you.

    • Jill

      Hi C,
I saw a video the other day of a successful VipKid teacher who had a slight Mexican accent. I think it depends on how strong your accent is. The parents of the students must want their kids to learn the standard American accent. You know, the accent is easy! Just like acting:)

I would be interested to know how you made 1k on your first month. My check will barely be over $100.

      • Jill

I taught 113 classes plus had participation and conversion incentives. I only booked ppt and pt, so 2-6 M-S and F/S evenings.

        • Kay

Jill, you mind if I email you?

          • Jill

Kay, of course not! Please do:)

  7. Lauren

Another current VIPKID teacher here! I absolutely LOVE the flexibility this wonderful job gives me and my family. I am able to continue staying home with my two young kiddos while still contributing to our family’s finances. I would love to chat with anyone who may be interested in also pursuing this amazing opportunity! My email address is laurenmac10@gmail.com or find more information here https://t.vipkid.com.cn/activity/popup?refereeId=6783306&refersourceid=a01. Potential applicants who follow the process with a current teacher are more likely to be hired and I would love to help you through the process!

How flexible are they with the year of teaching/mentoring experience? I have volunteered for many years with kids at church for example but primarily with toddlers. I’ve also volunteered with special needs teens through an organization called Capernaum and being a camp counselor. Not exactly teaching but certainly good experience with interacting and relating to different kinds of children. Anyone have any tips on what Vipkid is looking for in teachers, I would love to make this a possibility so I could homeschool my daughter as she gets to school age(she’s only 2 now). Thanks in advance!

    • Jessica

Any experience counts. I would list all those things as experience and make them sound as official as possible. And list each type separately. Those all sound like great experience and this is a perfect job for staying home and homeschooling. I love homeschooling! I am so glad that having this job allows me to be a teacher and a homeschooling parent.

Is there someone who has worked for this company for 3 years or more, comment on how they have maintained their position in the company?

    • Niki

I have the same question Nikki. The company hasn’t been around very long but you almost never hear from anyone who’s been there more than three years. I’m three months in and I like the money but it isn’t an easy or pleasant company to work for. The onboarding process is confusing, many many new teachers don’t get classes assigned to them, and communication isn’t good.

    • Jessica

The company itself was founded in 2013. Most of the teacher growth has happened in the last year. You might find a few on youtube that are between 2-3 years. I had a mentor in a workshop once that was 4 years. But here in this small hip2save bunch I think that might be hard to come by.

How do the lessons work? Do they provide guidelines or plans? Curious as to how it works

    • Jessica

The lessons are all planned out for you. Each child is on their own path through the lessons that are pre planned. You review the lesson before class to prepare for it. You are this child’s opportunity to practice with a native English speaker. They have other exposure to the material in their classrooms, workbooks, and with interactive games and practice on the computer. So each 25 minute lesson is assigned to a child and you can review it as soon as that child has a class booked with you. So, for example,I can see the lessons I have for classes tomorrow as well as next Sunday. It takes me about 5 minutes to prepare for each class. The lessons become very familiar after a bit.

  11. Melissa

Hi, what kind of computer/equipment is needed? Our laptop is fairly old and slow and a new one isn’t in the budget just yet. I’m curious if that would be an issue? Thanks!

    • Jessica

A solid internet connection and a camera. You can use the built in camera. I did for the first month and then spent money on a upgraded camera. I use a 5 year old mac and haven’t had any trouble.

  12. Katrina

I am on my second contract with VIPKID, and I love it!!!! I used to teacher 3rd grade, and quit my job this year to stay home with my boys, and working with VIPKID helps make this happen. It also helps me feel like I am doing something else besides just being a mom lol, but I get to wear my PJ’S while doing it, and don’t have to leave the house!!! I would love to help you get hired!!! Please sign up with my link, and I will help you along the way!! Once your hired on I will also send you a customized AWESOME VIPKID teacher t shirt as a congratulations and thank you for using my link!!!! Another thing I love is that I can make more than $22 an hour by working short notice classes, and getting new kids to sign up with VIPKID (trial class sign ups). I make at least $25/hour doing this each and every month, sometimes more!!!! Here is the link to apply: https://t.vipkid.com.cn/activity/popup?refereeId=5036148&refersourceid=a01

I noticed in watching some of the teaching videos on the VIP Kid website that the teachers have visuals–are these provided to you and you print them at home?

    • Kay

TMeyer, you print them at home. I have heard that there are a few Facebook groups that have printable resources as well. If you have small children, you can “borrow” some of their toys for lessons.

  14. Serena

I just got hired on to VIPKID. I am very excited!
I would love to help others on their journey with the application process etc.
