I have a question, I usually file online with turbo tax and just pay whatever fee they charge. If you buy the software can you reuse it the next year?
No, you have to purchase a new version for every tax year.
Nope, you cannot. It’s only for that year. I usually get it for the year. I didn’t know you could just do it online and pay the fee. How much is the fee? i may just do that instead.
No. Each version is based on a specific tax year and the IRS rules which may vary year to year: 2015, 2016, 2017… My credit union has free turbo tax for members online every year. Still have to pay the filing fee though. If you belong to a credit union check to see if they offer this. Also Taxact has free tax software online you can use and you just pay a filing fee. Once you start using it you can import past years into new filings. I’ve used it with the same results as turbotax.
Ok thanks that’s what I thought, I believe the online fees are about the same as buying the software. I paid 39.99 for deluxe online this year and I think that’s what you could buy it for in store.

Please explain. I just go to turbo tax website every year and time through them. Is this a disc for laptops desktops?? If so, it won’t port over all of my previous saved info correct? TIA

It should save since you have been doing it with them before. It’s a disc and we use it with out desktop. My husband usually does them and he takes his time so he will do some one day and the rest the other and file when he has tripled checked everything.

I’ve only filed online through TurboTax and it’s normally about $150 for federal and 2 state returns. Does anyone know if this cover the efile fee if you file in 2 states? If so seems like a great deal!
CD includes one state and up to 5 federal. Efile fees cost extra on top of software purchase. You will probably have to pay an upgrade fee to access 2016 return to import info into 2017 return. Thank goodness tax season is only once a year 😉
