Wash Your Hair Once a Week Like Us?! You Need This in Your Life…

Hello! It’s Bryn, Collin’s sister & sidekick!

Here’s the truth – I only wash my hair at most once or twice per week! 😱

Some of you may be gagging at this thought, but this small change has made a big difference in my life. For one, it is much better for my hair. Less washing means less drying with my hair dryer which means less heat to my hair which equals healthier hair. SWEET!

In addition, less washing and drying means less “getting ready” time in the morning making for more sleep (even an extra 5-10 minutes makes a big difference!).

Even better, dirtier hair is much easier to style especially if you are going for a curly or beach wave look. And again, this means less time to get your hair styled and out the door!

Finally, less washing means less shampoo which can add up to big savings especially if you are a fan of high end shampoos.

OK, have I convinced you to ditch daily shampooing?

If I have convinced you to jump on the bandwagon, then you need to snag this Fashionista Collection Shower Cap! 😍

So the truth is that you will probably not feel like a fashionista sporting this shower cap (see picture above for case in point); in fact, when I am wearing this shower cap, I make it a point to jump into the shower when I know my hubby is nowhere near the proximity of our bathroom as I am not sure he would appreciate the awesomeness of this cap. 😂

Why am I excited about a Shower Cap?

Limiting my hair washing does NOT mean limiting my showering!

Since I still shower daily, I needed to find a way to keep my hair 100% dry while still enjoying a nice long shower. For quite a while, I would save those cheap and flimsy shower caps from hotels and use them for weeks and weeks at a time.

Then I “upgraded” to shower caps from the dollar store but I found that these were too small and sometimes popped off my head during the shower.

So I was super excited to discover this Fashionista Collection Shower Cap. Available in several different patterns (I am sporting the Diva one in this post), this oversized shower cap works for all hair lengths and thicknesses – I can put my hair in a bun, ponytail or just plain down and the cap fits!

It also features an elastic hem which keeps it very secure around your head – no more wet hair around your hairline. The only negative may be that the elastic sometimes feels a bit tight – BUT I appreciate the tight feelings as this means the water is staying out.

And the material of the cap itself does not seem to absorb any water so it dries super quickly AND it’s also fully machine washable – love that!

Awesome Shower Cap 🚿 + Less Hair Washing 💁🏼‍♀️ + Less Styling Time ⌚ = More Sleep 😴 AND Happier Human  😁

You can also find this brand (Lulu Beauty) at Ulta online, in the Diva pattern, and a couple of other different patterns than on Amazon.. I don’t see where they are available in-store, though.

    • Cindy

I found these a few months ago, at Bed Bath and Beyond. At the time, they only carried a couple of patterns. I think I paid about $7 or $8 for it, and I used a 20% off coupon. Whoo-Hoo!

I only wash my hair a couple times a week, also. Since I have hair that is beyond shoulder length and very thick and curly, I needed something big enough and strong enough to stay in place. So far, it’s done great for me.

    Thanks for sharing!

You guys look adorable as always!!!!

  4. Judy Trac

my hair itches when I don’t shower every other day

  5. Sunny

My head gets itchy too and oily by the second day. I have to wash my hair everyday. ☹️

    • C

Same here. It is absolutely necessary for me to wash my hair every day. It gets really really oily if I don’t. 🙁 I’ve tried every dry shampoo and it doesn’t clean my hair.

    • Sue

Same here. My hair gets so greasy too. I just don’t feel clean if I don’t wash it everyday.

      • Heather

This is how I used to be, and still am sometimes in the summer especially, but I found that once my hair got used to only being washed once a week, my oil production eventually decreased and now my hair still looks great days after a wash. It did take a while though, so if you have places to be, this might not be an option. I’m a stay-at-home mom that is basically a recluse, so during that transitional oily period, I was able to hide out at home.

          I’m agree with you

  6. Kristin

Man… I can’t go more than 2 days without washing my hair. No amount of styling or dry shampoo makes it look or feel non-nasty. I envy those that can go longer and still have good looking and good smelling hair… Mine just won’t do it.

    • Erin

Same here. I think dry shampoo makes it worse! But I’ve heard that you just have to suck it up and be gross for a while til your scalp recalibrates its oil production. I think I’ll try to gradually increase time between washing. Wash every three days, then every four, etc. til I can go a week.

      • Amanda

Try Baking soda in water – it works wonders best shampoo ever – clarifies your hair & scalp and makes hair way less oily!

        • Mya

How to add it to your shampoo? It goes on the bottle? Or as you used?

  7. Maite

I wash my hair once or twice a week and it has also done wonders to my hair and wallet! And no my hair does not smell bad because your scalp becomes accustomed to this routine and your oil glands do not produce as much oil. It’s great everyone should try it!

  8. Kim B

I love the shower caps and my hair is happy as can be and prettier. Also, have my silk bonnet on as I type this. Would never sleep without one.

  9. Heather

I would love to go that long without washing but my hair gets greasy!!! Could someone recommend a good dry shampoo? Whenever I use it I feel like my hair is even dirtier by mid day.

    • vmm

I had this problem when I first went with out washing hair so often buti learned a few tricks. ease into it. start with a few days or week of washing in the morning one day and then night the next day so its a day and a half, then switch to 2 days for a week, then slowly keep adding hours in between. it works. the other thing that helps is if you start by just not using shampoo. still rinse with warm water or just do a co-wash(use conditioner in the way you would shampoo but skip the shampoo step). a combination of these made it so I honestly never use shampoo. I co-wash every couple of days with a healthy conditioner and my has never been so healthy (ive been doing this for about 9 years!) my hair got curlier and healthier and less maintenance than my frizzy half wavey half straight hair had been before!

What a great idea! Thanks so much for this post! I gave up shampooing every other day six months ago. I have become addicted to my dry shampoo, Drybar Detox, highly recommend!, and my color-treated hair is sooooo healthy now. You have just solved my only problem, those hotel shower caps that don’t cover your hair in the shower. Thanks!

  11. Vicki

I also only wash my hair once a week— have been doing it for years.

  12. Len

Any solutions for hair loss or hair thinning? I too wash my hair twice a week but still loosing hair mostly on the day of washing. I heard Biotin helps but I haven’t actually tried it. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks. Love this post.

    • Sherri

Len, just a thought — have your thyroid checked. This is one of the symptoms of a low producing thyroid.

    • Lisa

Len, I agree that you may have a low thyroid. It is super common.

    • Michelle

Len, Biotin DOES work. Use it every day and also take some vitamin D. If I go to long without the Biotin my hair starts falling out again. Good luck!

  13. Erin

I use this shower cap, too! I have fine hair, but there is a lot of it, and I keep it long, so it takes a long time to wash and dry, about an hour total. My husband thinks it’s disgusting that I only wash it a couple of times a week, but not because it looks disgusting — it’s just the thought of it. It could probably stand to be washed three times a week, but it’s just not worth the time to me!

  14. Mari

Is it really mold resistant? I swear the ones I have bought in the past (not this brand) develop a smell after a time. I do rinse and hang it to dry occasionally but Yuck! I would totally try this if it is better.

  15. Sherri

As I have gotten older, I now only wash my hair 1-2 a week. It just doesn’t need it and with thinning issues, this is definitely a plus! All this aside, the picture is priceless!! Great laugh for today!!

  16. Melanie

Once a week hair washer here! Thanks so much, looks great! 🙂

  17. Yumi

You kinda have to train your hair (scalp) to be less greasy… took me about a month and now wash my hair twice a week.

  18. Maleeta

I want one now. And cute pic btw!

  19. Lisa B Auld

I’m a dental hygienist, so daily hair washing is a necessity!!!

  21. Paula

    I bought one😜

  22. Cindy

As you get older and color your hair you also benefit from longer time between coloring when you shampoo less. I’m getting one of these caps thanks!

    • Denise

I agree! Another reason why I try to hold out and not wash as much due to hair coloring. As long as it smells nice or not dirty I don’t wash it but if it stinks or looks dirty/greasy of course I will. Dry shampoo works wonders for those in between washing’s.

  23. Sa

My hair gets sweaty during exercise, unless it’s freezing cold. Plus clean hair smells nice. I don’t see the point of showering and only cleaning part of my body. I don’t always blow dry.

  24. Mc

I can understand that your hair would get less oily over time. The part I can’t understand is the following… My hair looks goofy in the morning. Poofed up on one side flat on the other. I can’t imagine going out in public with the way my hair looks in the morning. Am I missing something? 🙂

  25. Jill

    Totally agree!!!!

  26. Denise

In the winter I go without washing my hair for 3-4days. In the summer I go without washing every 2-3days. Of course if it stinks or gets dirty (chlorine, sand in it, beach water etc.) before that I end up washing it. In between washing’s I use batiste dry shampoo and it really helps and works for me.

sorry but this grosses me out
