Oh Dollar Tree… How I Love YOU.

I’ve gotta admit walking down the aisles of Dollar Tree is one of my favorite things to do! 💃 I feel like a deal detective scoping out the aisles for buried treasures. 😎 I often find MANY awesome buys since everything at Dollar Tree is priced at $1 OR less!

This week I took a trip to Dollar Tree and thought it would be fun to share TEN of my favorite finds! Keep in mind that Dollar Tree inventory can vary greatly from store to store.

Collin’s Top Ten Dollar Tree Finds…

So, I am wondering, for those of you who have awesome bread at your dollar tree: Do you have a bakery or outlet store for a bakery in your area? My dollar tree used to have a lot of bread selection, back before our Wonder bread outlet store closed down but now we only get the stuff made specifically for dollar tree. I am just wondering if maybe that is the difference?

    • Tia

We have 2 outlets, Entenmanns and Nature’s Own.

    • VB Vee

The bread in our area Dollar Trees comes from overstock picked up from local grocery stores like Harris Teeter, Farm Fresh, etc….. I’m in Virginia.
The Cobblestone Truck brings ours to the DT’s.

      • Stephanie

Same here in NC the cobblestone truck brings all kinds of name brand bread to dollar tree. Pretty sure there is one other truck I seen there but can’t think of it right now! The closet bread outlet is about 45 minutes to hour away. I may check that towns dollar tree soon (big new one opened ) so I will look just out of curiosity now 🙂

  2. Amy

When I was trying to get pregnant 10 years ago I tracked my ovulation for many, many months. I bought ovulation tracking kits from Amazon but I have since learned that Dollar Tree has ovulation tests, as well as pregnancy tests. They have really good reviews too on their website. Can’t beat a dollar!

    • Sarah

I second the pregnancy tests, they are great and a $1 is a wonderful price!

      • Sarah C

I also agree ^ on their pregnancy tests! I used them when I was first pregnant with both of my kids. My OB doctor even said that they have several patients who admit to using them.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

YES, so AWESOME! You really can’t beat a buck!

    • Gina

Yup. Dollar Tree confirmed both of my pregnancies accurately.

    • Andrea

I am extremely anxious about getting pregnant (I don’t want to!) I stock up on pregnancy tests at the DT so if I’m a day or two late I can take a test just to ease my anxiety. They have always been negative, and they have always been correct. The FDA probably regulates them. I’d say you can rely on them.

    • Jenn Z

Agree, used both tests and worked perfect the two times we tried!! I highly recommend.

      • olga

I have used dollar tree pregnancy tests on both of my pregnancies and they work like magic. I got positive the first try after being late. I would highly recommend them, instead of spending like $15 for one pregnancy test at CVS or Walgreens. I heard the Dollar Tree ones are more sensitive.

    • Courtney

I also agree about the pregnancy tests, that’s how I found out I was expecting my second. And it was pretty early too, only like 4 weeks.

  3. cheap mom

Wow your dollar tree is so nice and neat. The one near me is a wreck all the time lol

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

We have a few Dollar Tree locations in my area that are not so nice as well, but the one we went to recently is much bigger and has a larger selection to pick from.

  4. Helen in Meridian

Please say which $ Tree had those great deals. Sis included some of those soaps in my birthday gift box, and I checked at State/Glenwood and they didn’t have them. I did find 6 new pair of jeans and slacks for $5 each last week at Walmart Caldwell.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hi Helen!
I actually went to the Dollar Tree in Nampa which is close to the Target in Nampa. It’s much larger and seemed to have a great selection.

  5. Sarah

I totally need to go check out my Dollar Tree!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      DO IT! 💃 It’s so FUN! 🙌

  6. Deb

Collin, what is it about Boise that your Dollar Tree and Target are so clean and neat? My DT is borderline disgusting and you can’t go down any aisles, because there are cartons blocking the centers. My Target never has the selection that yours has, especially for post-holiday sales. Are Boiseans just special people who keep things organized and pristine?

    • acgold

I agree our Michael’s, Dollar Trees, Target’s, Walmart’s in NY and NJ never have 3/4 of the items and clearance always shown here. The aisles are always a mess!

      • P.J.

Most of the Dollar Tree stores that I’ve been to in the St.Louis county, Mo. area, where I live are kept pretty nice.
Yes, sometimes, there are boxes in the aisles, but they make sure the centers are clear enough for cart traffic….this generally happens early in the week, right after their shipments come in.
Our area gets the bread too, Cobblestone, Wonder, others….I LOVE the 24 Grains and Seeds loaf!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hey there Deb,
Th secret is that I often do my shopping in Nampa (which is just outside of Boise). 😉 The stores seem to be less crowded, and have a larger selection of items to pick from. We’ve got some locations closer to me that get super crowded, and seem to never have the items I’m looking for.

  7. MrsK

Our local Dollar Tree is not as nice and does not have fridge/freezer items, but I still enjoy just browsing the aisles for goodies. 🙂

  8. acgold

One of the best things to buy are the mylar balloons. They have a great selection and they are only $1.00. Some of them are shaped like the ones at Party City- cupcakes, no.1 fingers, etc. A great tip- if you need them for a party a few hours away, you can buy the ones you want locally and have them blown up near the party, just bring the receipt. This way you do not have to drive hours with the balloons blocking your rear view. Just call ahead and make sure they have helium to fill at the other store. If you pick them out near you , even a few weeks before, you can get exactly what you want and no worries of finding them at the other store!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Awesome tip! Thank you!

    • lindak

We bought 25 balloons for a work function and a couple of them lasted about a month. They really are a great deal.

    • Andrea

That’s a really great tip! My niece is allergic to Latex so we have to buy only Mylar balloons which can be quite expensive if you don’t know what you’re doing.

    • Stephanie B

They will also fill balloons you buy elsewhere, as long as they’re Mylar! They filled a huge air walker Minnie Mouse balloon for me for $8! What a steal!!! Much cheaper than buying a tank at Wal-Mart.

  9. Michelle

Yep. I discovered the $1 Oroweat in December. My husband yelled at me because I thought it was a one-time deal and bought several to freeze and stock up.

The employees are usually nice too.

  10. ds

Can I ask what that big bag is your holding? I think it’s two loafs if bread in one big bag?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Correct, it’s a 2-PACK of loaves for a BUCK! I was stoked! 😍

  11. Cc

i love dollar tree! cuz its too dang expensive in bay area..

  12. Lisa

Wow to find Oroweat bread especially rye is an awesome deal. I’ve never seen that in my DT stores. I was shocked to find yesterday Amope electronic nail system there for $1.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes, that Amope Nail System is SUCH a great buy for a buck! Glad you spotted one when you were there!

  13. kim

Lays chips cans for 1$. Tastes like pringles. Pepperoni, big green tea boxes. Clotrimazol cream for stinky feet

  14. Thankful

Last year, I needed a new toilet plunger. They were $7 at Target, $4 at Home Depot and $1 at the Dollar Tree. Packing tape at Target is $5 so I pick up rolls at DT too. I pick up Basic toilet bowl cleaner, hand sanitizer and the 40 ct of tin foil. I find many times that a good stacking deal (coupons, cartwheel, sale and gift card) at Target is equal (sq ft, ounces, etc) or cheaper than Dollar Tree anyways.

  15. CherryBlossom

I wish my Dollar Tree was this nice! I want that hand cream for a buck.
Did they prep just for your celebrity visit, Collin? 😀

    • Andrea

I know the ones around here have that cream. I’m not a fan. The best cream I’ve found in there is one of their store brands, so they should have it nationally. It is in a brown tube and says some kind of cream. It’s in the regular health and beauty section and sometimes in the baby section too. It’s really intense cream, for extremely dry skin, but it’s the only thing I’ve found that really makes my hands feel better.

      • CherryBlossom

Thank you for the feedback, Andrea! I will look for the cream in a brown tube – it sounds like exactly what I need for my extremely dry hands.

  16. Susie

I love Dollar Tree for cheap event products. I’m currently spray painting 150 plate chargers for a wedding reception. At just $1 each and some spray paint, they look like the much more expensive chargers that went with the color scheme.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

So FUN!! What a creative and budget-friendly idea. Thanks for sharing!

  17. Edy

My tree dollar not that good , I find better things at the .99 cent store and the king dollie store but things are 1.25 not a dollar at king dollar

  18. Maite

Wish mine had that much variety and was also organized! Mine is horrible and employees always have a 😡 face! Must be the Miami heat! 😂😂

  19. Ellen

Love the mugs…were they a recent find?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hi Ellen,
Yes, they were a VERY recent find. 🙂 I actually just spotted them for the first time this past Monday.

      • Ellen

Thank you for your response, Collin!

  20. Sarah-Rene

Our Dollar Tree is no fun! Also, I’ve been to 3 states and non of my Dollar Tree accept IP coupons.

    • Jessica Lindsey

Hi! I am a DT manager, and all of our stores should accept manufacturer’s coupons. Maybe the employee was confused. :-/

  21. tracy

Dollar Tree also carries lemon juice, lime juice, Musselman’s pie filling and 4-packs of applesauce. They’re 1/3 price of the grocery store.

  22. Cara

I love the Dollar Tree and I wish that I could find half of these deals. I always try to visit stores out of state because the ones near me are just plain nasty. Open food, unstocked aisles, food that should be refrigerated sitting on shelves, sticky floors, etc. This is in NM.

  23. Sarah

I would caution against sunglasses from the Dollar Tree or any other questionable source (mall kiosk) while the price is right many of them do not actually protect against UV rays despite being marked that way. Sun protection is just as important for your eyes as it is for your skin!😊

With that being said I bought plates and bowls from the Dollar Tree about a year ago and they are fab!!

  24. VB Vee

I replaced all the light bulbs in our ceiling fixtures and lamps with the LED ones from Dollar Tree. They are cooler…helps out a bunch cause we have a southwest exposure apartment. Heat hits us from mid day thru sundown. Our rooms stay much cooler. And they are not hot to the touch like the bulbs we use to buy. Seems like the light bill has come down too.

Another real good item I like from Dollar Tree is the mountable (night) lights that look like light switches. They have LED technology and give off decent light for our small bathroom. We mounted one on the wall near the sink and it’s enough light for those night time bathroom trips when I don’t want to get hit with a sunbeam in the eyes. Helps me get back to sleep quicker. During a short power failure, it worked like a charm. Gives off a “halo” type light…not glaring. We installed a couple of the Panasonic Alkaline Batteries sold at Dollar Tree. The light is dimming a bit now…but still usable. We installed it a couple months ago and have used a few times every night. Sometimes I forget to cut it off and it ran for 5+ hours straight. Still using the same initial batteries that were installed when I first set the light up.
I initially got one of the round glassy looking lights to use for my fishing cooler (for night time fishing). Saw the light switch shaped ones and bought a few. Had a power failure and tried the round one. It gave off a glare and did not light the bathroom too well. It should work under the lid of my fishing cooler though. I remembered that I bought the light switch ones, and on a whim figured what could it hurt. Got one out of the drawer and installed the batteries. Stuck it up with the adhesive strips and loved the lighting effect. The next day it was on the floor. I decided to mount it with screws and it’s been in place since then. I recommend these lights. They are found in the area where light bulbs are located.
Here’s a link to the Dollar Tree site showing this light. Available for a buck in store when bought in single units.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Wow!! Thanks for the helpful comment! I am going to keep my eyes peeled for these switch lights next time I’m there. Thanks again!

  25. maxwells47

I get mouthwash, ibuprofen and trash bags. Why pay more for trash bags if you are just throwing them out anyway?

  26. Chris

My favorite is the Cinnabon bites in the freezer section (aqua package). My kids eat them for breakfast on Saturdays.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh YUM! Thanks for the tip – totally looking for these next time.

    • *Angela-Miles*

Yesss I love those. Grab them often too!

  27. Shannon

Where did you get your shoes that you have on in the gift bag photo? So cute!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thank YOU! I actually purchased them gently used off ThredUp.com a couple of years ago. 🙂

  28. Kris

I found Amope nail file systems at my dollar tree. They’re $20 at Walmart

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      WooHoo!! That’s awesome!

  29. Molly

Just check the country of origin on the foods! The frozen “meat”, fruit and veggies often are made In China!!

  30. Gilly

Great to see you on the blog, Collin! Love the sidekicks, but appreciate the posts and the responses from you.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awww… thanks!! I really appreciate the comment. 😊

  31. Brianna

I use their alkaline batteries! Great price and seem to last as long as name brand batteries.

  32. Malinda

I love Dollar Tree too! I hit up all the ones in my surrounding area when I can. Inventory and atmosphere do vary greatly. I bought the LED bulbs and went back for 20 more. Thanks for your super cute post Colin!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome!! 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

  33. Amy

Love the organic coconut oil!!!! Got a sturdy garden spade last week, cute Easter decorations, command hooks, plastic boxes to organize my kids’ closets, a wolf for my daughter’s diorama, elasticized food covers (looks like shower caps in various sizes) love these to quickly cover and refrigerate foods! Always get gift bags and mylar balloons here. Love my DT!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Wow! Awesome finds – I’ll have to look for some of these. Thanks for sharing!

      • VB Vee

There is a $1/1 printable coupon available on the Command (dot) com website under the Promotions tab.

  34. Me

Wow! I don’t frequent the dollar stores much because like others have said, there was never a variety like you have here! I would shop there if there was more of what you have at your store! I’d be stoked about the Oroweat too! Our bakery outlet closed. I used to go there and buy tons of stuff and freeze it as well. It’s been so long I had forgotten about it….still sad it’s gone.

  35. Jenn Z

Our store had those Amope Pedi Perfect files today – nail care system. Like $20 at Walmart

  36. Mel

I love Dollar Tree! Just went today and got 28 items! I especially like their organizing stuff!

  37. Jackie

I LOVE Dollar Tree!! Lots of great teaching manipulatives!!

  38. pnwremod

Caution on the lightbulbs. Three years ago (so maybe not an issue anymore) I purchased some. Installed the first one and it blew up. Ended up having to use a raw potato to get it out of the socket. My hubby said “don’t ever buy those again”. lol

  39. Raedev

I saw the amope foot pedi things for $1. I thought wow how cool I thought those were like $20 lol

  40. Tara

Absolutely love dollar tree and their customer service. I had a horrible experience where one of their employees was ridiculing my special needs son who was 4. Not only did she come to where we were to yell at him for squeaking a dog toy after I had already taken it from him, but then she proceeded to get on the loud speaker. Then she started making jokes and laughing at him calling him a retard with her friends. I was very proud of myself for not losing my cool and only acknowledged her the once to tell her I have already taken the toy. I called and got to speak with the district manager and he was amazing. Apologized profusely and said he would handle it. I never saw her in there again.

    • VJ

OMG. So sorry you and your son had to deal with such an ignorant, rude, and insensitive person. NOT OK! I admire you for the way you handled it. Hopefully she learns to treat people with respect- especially children, people with special needs, and the elderly. All worthy of dignity, respect, and LOVE!

      • amy111

Exactly what Vj said. I’m so sorry that happed at all. Keep your head up, mama!

  41. Shannon Anderson

I work at DT in East Texas. I’ve had customers compliment on how clean and nice our store is. But, it is a constant battle. Corporate gives each store a certain amount of hours each week for people to work. That includes managers, cashiers, stockers and people to unload the truck.
Unfortunately there are customers that let their kids run wild thru the store and tear stuff up. Adults that tear packages open & strow things from one side of the store to the other, even leave frozen items out to ruin.
In defense of the stores that look dirty (and I won’t even share what people do to the bathrooms, it’s so disgusting) have empty shelves or boxes of stock sitting in the isles….employees would be able to get more goodies out of the stock room and on to the shelves. And there are so many great things to find every week. Today we put out Amope products and they were flying off the shelf! Love my Dollar Tree

  42. Kay

I luv their food storage plastic wraps, the ones that look like shower caps. They’re called cover ups. I also luv their wall decals that I use for my girls’ room n bathroom. Very cute designs that change up.

  43. kroc

I’ve been a long time fan of dollar tree and I love this post! My favorites are the colorful storage items, name brand foil sheets, colorful cutlery/plates, snacks, candy selection, household tools(my stand up dust pan is awesome) seasonal holiday items, party items(from shot glasses to wedding items), gift bags/bows and just other random awesome things I find!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yay! Happy to hear that. Thanks for taking the time to comment and for sharing your finds! 😍

  44. VB Vee

There is a coupon on the Smartsource website for $1 off any OXY product.
I saw it under zipcode 30033.

  45. Annette Benavides asst. Manager at Dollar tree

I just love when people come in and asked is everything a $ 1.00 and I say yes it is. They really love my store can’t believe it’s all a dollar. I am a associate for 9 yes. And it’s nice to hear people say that they really love dollar tree.

  46. Michele in DE

I am also a huge Dollar Tree fan … I think it’s an addiction as I’m there a minimum of once a week! Anyway, my favs are: Quick Erasers (found bonus 3 packs last weekend) that work just like Magic Eraser, Always liners, multi-packs of Cheez-Its, tortilla shells and Herr’s Hot & Honey cheese curls 🙂

  47. Susan

We only have a smaller dollar tree & they never seem to have the great finds posted. However I do buy all of my greeting cards ,gift bags ,balloons & gift tissue there. I am tempted to browse today though ; hoping to find anything that you have posted. Would love the soap/body cream & coffee cups ! I do need Easter cards for the grandchildren too!

  48. 50ShadesofLipstick

My Dollar Tree (in a suburb of Dallas) is always clean and organized, but doesn’t offer the variety of awesome stuff that you guys post on here. Meaning that we don’t quite get newer/brand-name products. Most of the stuff looks dusty and faded, like it’s been sitting there forever. I do like to buy gift bags, greeting cards, party supplies (esp. the plastic flatware that looks like steel), Chux pads for my baby’s diaper changes, and kitchen stuff like aluminum foil, parchment, etc.

  49. Lisa LoRusso

We have four adult children plus their spouses. We always do something fun on Christmas to make it more exciting. One year, we played Minute to Win It games. DT was my go to for the supplies. This year, my husband and I created an “escape game” for them to figure out. I got almost all of my supplies for the clues, containers and locks at DT. It was so much fun watching them and it was nice that it was inexpensive to create.

  50. Diane

    Collin,

I hope this post is not embedded too far down for you to read. I have been a loyal fan for years! Today I took a trip to the DT from your recommendation. I have a 97 year old Grandmother and I put an Easter Basket together for her at the Dollar Tree from your recommendations. I learn so much from you…trending toys, hot cosmetics, quality brands etc….. Today I scored at DT only because of your post. I forced myself to “look around” as you suggested and found so many quality items. The store manager is amazing and helped me find things from this post. Thank you so much for everything you do for us “hip 2 savers!!” I am honestly beyond grateful!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)
