Clever and cheap makeup storage hacks like this flatware tray will save you time and money!

You don’t need to be a beauty guru to know that an organized makeup collection is a happy makeup collection. Splurge on beauty while saving money (and time) with these cheap, clever, and convenient makeup storage hacks!

1. Use plastic Easter eggs to store your beauty blender.

This super cute plastic Easter egg hack is perfect if you’ve tossed the case to your beauty blender (or never had one to begin with). Decorate with stick-on decals or leave as is. Even better, most plastic Easter eggs have holes in the top and/or bottom so you can keep your sponge dry.

Hip Tip: Looking for a more Instagram worthy beauty blender holder? This one looks like a little piece of art for your vanity!

2. Organize products perfectly with a kitchen utensil holder.

Pick up a cheap tray from Amazon, or grab one for only $1 at the Dollar Tree! You can jazz it up with some metallic paint, contact paper, or washi tape to make it look less like, well, a utensil holder.

3. Repurpose old candle jars as makeup brush holders.

Repurpose your jars by removing labels and cleaning out the wax like Lina did in this tutorial. You can fill with beads, pebbles, or any other small, waterproof fillers for a more decorative look, and stand your brushes upright in them.

Hip Tip: Check out more ways to up-cycle trash into functional storage containers.

4. Arrange eye shadow in ice cube trays.

A simple plastic ice cube tray is all you need to separate your individual eye shadows for easy access. This also works for blushes, bronzers, highlighters, setting powder… you name it!

5. Corral eye shadow palettes in file organizers or napkin holders.

Simply slip your palettes between the spaces of a cute file organizer or napkin holder – be sure to check out the clearance section at office supply stores to snag a cute find for CHEAP!

6. Use ribbon to keep items from shifting in drawers.

Keep bottles and jars from falling or rolling around by securing ribbon or lace loops to the inside of drawer walls with thumbtacks.

7. Equip a sushi roller with elastic or a piece of scrap leather for a makeup roll.

Customize your beauty brush roll by making your own with a bamboo mat and elastic!  An even more simplified version only requires a piece of leather (you can always use vegan leather if you prefer) and a piece of ribbon to keep the roll secured. This is perfect for travel, too!

-“I own two of these and have gifted several. Couldn’t live without it and my friends love them as well! Well worth it!!” – Tanya

-“I purchased one last month for our daughter’s 12th birthday. I think it was her favorite gift! She took it right up to her bathroom, put it together herself and happily organized all her body sprays, makeup, hair accessories, lotions, etc. It sits nicely organized on her counter now and spins smoothly. This makes a great gift for anyone needing to organize a bunch of smaller items, it really holds quite a bit.” – Kristi

“As a family with one bathroom I would highly recommend this. It gives my daughter a space to store her bathroom items in her room so she isn’t waiting on the bathroom. I think it is a good buy.” – Caroline

    wow…. sooo clever.

I like to reuse Prego glass jars too because I can see everything in it and they can be cleaned in the dishwasher when they look bad.

      • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

That’s brilliant in every way! I’m going to have to steal that tip — thanks for sharing!

ikea has some utensil trays that i’m thinking of using for laying out jewelry. i feel like i’ll be more likely to use the stuff when it’s laid out so I can see everything I have.

  3. Jiya

    Great Ideas. : )

  4. BetsyD

I literally just went to $ store this morning & bought another utensil sorter for my jewelry. I also picked up a 2 pack (for $1) Ice cube tray & sorted my earrings!!!!

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Love Dollar Tree, especially for organization essentials! So smart to use them for jewelry too 😄

  5. Roeseeohh

Love the Easter egg idea. My girls just got their hands on my new BB & threw out the case it came in.

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Just in time! Glad that tip could come in handy 😊

  6. Shannon

Aw such cute ideas! This post makes me think I don’t own nearly as many eyeshadows as I’m supposed to! Lol

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Haha Shannon you are not alone! I have only one small palette but no individual eyeshadows. The ice cube tray can be used for other makeup items like blush, highlighter, bronzer, concealer, etc. — it’s so versatile!

  7. GotItTogetherish

    I love the ribbon idea!

  8. ana

I use a hat box, but I just throw all my make up in there and I can’t really see it. Some of these ideas are really good. The only thing I worry about is I like my counters in my bathroom cleared off so whatever I do has to fit in a drawer or under the sink. Idea’s for under the sink would be greatly appreciated. 🙂 thanks!

  9. April

I have been using my old Birchboxes to store makeup- one for eye products, one for lips, one for moisturizer and blushes.

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hi April! I LOVE that idea! I feel so guilty throwing away the Birchbox boxes because they’re too cute. I’ll have to borrow your makeup storage idea

  10. Tuni

I use the Ferraro rocher boxes to keep my earrings .. the individual golden plastic color case make the perfect box for earrings . You can see all the earrings you have

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

This is so smart and I bet it looks so pretty!! All the more reason to eat a box of chocolates! Thanks for sharing, Tuni!

  11. Jodi P

A half-pint jelly jar is all I use for my makeup. My makeup is all pencils or tubes, and one skinny foundation. They all stand up in the jar, and there’s room for a couple of brushes and a tweezers.

  12. Kristi S

I stumbled upon this from a later post, it’s just what I needed! I needed some new ideas on how to organize my daughter’s makeup so she can use it all! Thanks so much!

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Glad it was helpful, Kristi! Hope your daughter likes the makeup storage ideas too!
