Land O’Frost Recalls Almost 5,000 Pounds of Ham Due to Improper Package Labeling
Is it Ham… or Turkey Breast? 🤔
Land O’Frost Inc. is recalling almost 5,000 pounds of ham products because of incorrect package labeling. There have not been any confirmed reports of adverse reactions related to these products.
The issue, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, is that the front of select packages of ham is accurately labeled as Black Forest Ham, BUT the back of the packages are incorrectly labeled as Honey Smoked Turkey Breast, leading to confusion and unreliability.
The following Land O’Frost Ham products are being recalled:
- 1-lb. plastic gas-flushed resealable packages containing a single ham labeled “Land O’Frost PREMIUM Old World Style Black Forest Ham” with Lot 8117D and a sell-by date of August 10th, 2018 on the label.
Have questions about this recall? Contact Dar Gautreaux, the administrative assistant at Land O’Frost, at 1-800-762-9865.
wow this is crazy
thanks for the heads up
You’re welcome!
So nothing wrong with the product itself, just the back says turkey instead of ham. Personally, I assume most people know the difference between ham and turkey by sight. I get some people might not be able to eat ham but if the front says ham that’s what people go by. If you turn it over and see turkey and its ham colored meat, it’s ham.
Labelling needs to be consistent, regardless of what a product looks like. Turkey and ham can look pretty similar, especially at first glance. Anyone w/ allergies or religious restrictions on eating pork products (like Muslims and Jews) could be affected by this, even if others aren’t. It’s great that the company recalled these products.
Could be a serious issue for those who are Kosher or Halal. Thanks for the important heads up Collin!
Absolutely love that you’re always looking out for your readers <3
You’re very welcome! 😉
Just thinking of all the pigs who died for nothing due to this… (Disclaimer: vegetarian here)
Non-vegetarian here, and I agree.
If the front label is correct, the back label isn’t matter to me. I eat it anyway. I don’t want wasting time to return
I agree that the labeling needs to correct, however I find it hard to believe that someone who cant eat Pork is going to pick up a packet that says HAM in big letters on the front, flip it over, read the small print on the back saying its Turkey and buy it.
It’s really not that hard to imagine someone absent-mindedly grabbing the wrong product off the shelf (the ham probably sits next to the turkey anyway), flipping it over to skim the nutritional info/ingredients, and tossing it into their cart. People are distracted all the time these days. Besides, which label do you go by in this case? You can’t tell.
I’m not sure what people want the company to do w/ mislabelled products instead.
Can I file a claim
I bought some black forest ham from Fred Meyer. It was on sale 2 for $7. I was put directly in the refrigerator. On the 7th of February. Opened it last night for a sandwich and threw it out. It was rotten.
