Homemade Cinnamon Sugar Churros Using the Air Fryer

Does your family enjoy a warm churro as a treat?

You’ve gotta try making these cinnamon sugar churros in the air fryer! The result is a deliciously crisp on the outside yet soft and chewy in the middle perfection! It’s all the great qualities of a restaurant-style churro, minus the frying oil!

Sticks of Sugary Donut Heaven

The process is fairly simple and includes making a simple dough on the stove, piping the churros onto a baking sheet, chilling them in the fridge, and then finally air frying them to perfection! It may seem like a lot of steps, but it’s straightforward and tastes AMAZING. I promise it’s well worth the effort.

Hip Tip: You’ll need a pastry bag and star-shaped tip to make churros. I actually used my handy Wilton Dessert Decorator for this project and find this kitchen tool super helpful!

Of course placing dough in a freezer bag with the corner cut off could work, however wouldn’t result in the same tube shape with ridges. 🙂 

Air Fryer Homemade Cinnamon Sugar Churros

Make these heavenly churros at home with an easy chocolate sauce using your air fryer!

Serves: 26

Prep Time: 60 minutes


Cook Time: 10 minutes



For the Churros:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

For the Chocolate Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil


  • Step 1:

    In a saucepan on the stove, bring water to a boil and stir in sugar and butter.

  • Step 2:

    Once melted, reduce heat to medium/low and fold in flour. Remove from heat.

  • Step 3:

    In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs and vanilla extract.

  • Step 4:

    Slowly fold a few eggs into the dough. Keep repeating until eggs are well combined into the dough. Let cool.

  • Step 5:

    Place dough into a pastry bag with a star-shaped tip. (I'm actually using a Wilton decorator, pictured.) Pipe 6-inch long churros onto a parchment paper lined baking pan or a silicone mat.

  • Step 6:

    Place tray into the fridge to chill for about 30 minutes. (This makes your dough less sticky and easier to work with.)

  • Step 7:

    Place a single layer of churros, not touching each other, in the air fryer. Air fry for 10 minutes at 380 degrees.

  • Step 8:

    Mix cinnamon and sugar together on a small plate.

  • Step 9:

    Once churros are done cooking, roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture and place them on a cookie cooling rack. Repeat the process until all churros are cooked.

  • Step 10:

    To make the chocolate sauce, melt chocolate chips and coconut oil in a glass bowl using the microwave for about 20-30 seconds. Mix well and dip warm churros in the sauce to serve!

    This recipe makes about 26, six-inch churros.
