The best ways to shop and save with these jcpenney shopping tips — clearance section with sale signage

I find I’m spending more time at JCP.

To be honest, I used to hate to shop at JCPenney (the cool kids were in Abercrombie), but now their savings are the best. Remember the time JCP tried to save money by doing away with sales altogether (and shocker, it didn’t work out)? Thankfully, they’ve been pumping out deals left and right ever since.

Collin even shared some of her amazing finds from this insane 90% off sale in a LIVE video! This prompted me to head into my own local JCP, and to share my favorite ways to save.

Search for coupons before heading to the store.

I prepare for savings before I even walk in the door at JCP, so I never leave the house without checking for coupons to print out or to save to my phone. If you’re new to the wonders of JCPenney and none of the sales are immediately eye-catching, definitely sign up for their text and email alerts and get a 25% off coupon on a future purchase!

Please note the coupon will only work on select styles, but it’s worth signing up for the potential savings. Another easy way to save is through their rewards program.

Earn points on purchases with JCPenney Rewards.

It’s a pretty simple rewards program that lets you accumulate points on any purchase at JCPenney or For every $2 spent, you’ll earn 1 point which can be redeemed for a $10 reward once 200 points are reached. If you have a JCPenney credit card, you’ll earn points faster with a $1 = 1 point earning system.

Better yet, signing up scores you a 20% off coupon sent by email! Overall, while it’s not the best department store rewards program we’ve ever seen, signup is free, and you may as well get some points for shopping.

Now that you’ve done all the prep work, here’s how to shop once you’re there. Luckily, JCP isn’t shy about highlighting their sale sections of the store. You’ll want to keep your eye out for the colors red and pink.

The Red Zone is where you’ll find clearance.

It’s pretty great that all the marked down goods are grouped together in a very easy to find section. If you go during a hot sale, you’ll likely find these piece marked down even further with an additional percentage off.

But sometimes the clothes and accessories can get moved around by other shoppers or associates, which brings us to the other desired color — pink!

Pink tags mean the item is on clearance.

Be on the lookout for pink stickers. These show the marked down prices along with the marked down percentage. You’ll be able to stack some huge savings during additional percentage off periods!

You can also download the app as a price checker if you’re not sure if a product is marked down or not. It’s a great way to get the lowest price possible. That said, there is always a chance the price could be less elsewhere, which you can then price check too.

Even sweeter, there are coupons that will work on top of clearance prices too! For example, when JCPenney had that crazy sale and Collin rushed into the store, they had this deal scenario up for grabs:

Weatherproof Infant Jacket $6 (regularly $60)
Show coupon on phone in-store (15% off clearance)
Final cost just $5.10
*In-store only

That’s a savings of a little over 90%! While that sale has ended, this is just an example of the awesome coupons + clearance opportunities that pop up every now and then!

Price check against other stores for an additional 5% off.

Yup! If you happen to find the item listed at a lower price at eligible JCP competitors, you could score an additional 5% savings off the matched price! How sweet is that?! While the price matching policy applies to a wide selection of items, major appliances, electronics, and fitness equipment are not eligible for the extra 5% off.

You can also check which occasionally features different pricing than in the store. Ask a manager if you can get a price match (it’s up to their discretion to honor it or not). Keep in mind the 5% discount will not be applied to this type of price check.

Even sweeter, this policy is valid up to 14 days after your purchase, so should the price drop lower at JCP or at another competitor, you’ll still be able to get the lower price plus 5% off! Oh, and as if this policy couldn’t get any better, there are NO blackout dates, so the policy still stands for Black Friday! 🛍️

JCPenney kind of makes it a no-brainer to shop their stores, so it’s easy to encourage other people to do the same. If you’re tying the knot or starting a family, consider going through JCPenney for your registry! Your guests will have no problem finding a gift for you within their desired budget given their huge selection and frequent sales.

You get 10% off items you purchase for your own gift registry.

Hosting a gift registry with JCPenney gives you so many ways to save and lends a hand to people buying from your list. Even better? You’ll get 10% off any items that remain on your list if you decide to purchase them yourself!

The best ways to shop and save with these jcpenney shopping tips — dinnerware sets at jcpenney

And seriously, JCP has everything from dinnerware to small kitchen appliances to linens and so much more. You can even add bathroom items or pajamas to take on your honeymoon! Adding items is easy, and you can do it from the comfort of your own home.

Speaking of which, if shopping online is more your style, here’s a simple trick to avoid paying for shipping.

Have $25+ purchases shipped to the store for free.

JCP’s free home shipping threshold is $99, which to me is just too high. On the bright side, as long as you spend a minimum of $25, you can have most items shipped to the store. If the item is already in stock at your local store, you can even pick it up the same day — nothing like getting your shopping done from the couch! 🙌

It’s a great option to save you time since you’re not browsing through the crowded clearance selection, and you won’t miss out on items you may have otherwise overlooked.

And while you’re online, make sure to hit up some of our favorite discount websites to save you even more – with gift cards.

Discounted JCP gift cards can save you up to 12%!

We love this method of saving even more on our overall purchases, and it’s so easy to apply them to your order. Check out Raise and Gift Card Granny to view their selection of discounted gift cards.

Be sure to double check the fine print for exclusions and conditions, since some cards are good for only in-store or online-only redemption.

If you end up making a purchase while in-store, you may not realize you’re getting a coupon with every purchase. In fact, it could be hidden at the bottom of your shopping bag!

Save the receipt for 10% off on your next trip.

At the bottom of each printed receipt, you’ll find an access code for a survey which rewards you with a 10% off coupon on your next purchase! It’s a simple survey, and I got my code within minutes after submitting the survey.

Even better, you can use the coupon for 24 hours in case you forget to include an item in your order or at the in-store checkout — sweet!
