Thanks Frontier for Our Budget-Friendly Family Vacation…
Sent from reader, Audrea:
Hi all! I just wanted to take a minute to say “THANKS” for a recent post regarding Frontier flights starting at $20.
I was reading a lot of the comments when the deal was posted and a lot of them were negative. Well, we were able to book flights from that post and I wanted to share my POSITIVE experience with Frontier.
We booked 3(!) round trip tickets to Austin (TX) from Cleveland (OH) for $182 TOTAL!
Our trip was over this past Labor Day weekend: no crazy flight times, no long lay overs, no delays, and our pilot got us to Austin 50(!) minutes ahead of schedule.
Our crew has been a family for 10 years and thanks to your site, we had our first family vacation with just the three of us!
It was an experience for us that we might not of ever had if it wasn’t for your site. We were able to enjoy a few free things while in TX (Hope Gallery, Texas Military Forces Musuem, and visiting the Silos in Waco) – bonus!
HAPPY FRIDAY!

I’m from Ohio too and fly frontier also! I haven’t had a negative experience yet. My kids are under 12. We haven’t had a problem sitting together and I havent paid to choose seats. I recently got an email that you could be an elite member if you fly 2 round trips before mid October. I’m also thinking about buying the den membership
I’m from Ohio too and have flown Frontier multiple times. I haven’t had a bad experience with them at all! I’ve had multiple problems with United.
We’ve taken 3 round trip flights with Frontier and it’s been problem after problem. After the last catastrophe (too long to details but left us stranded for hours in the middle of the night AND broke our infant car seat so we had to hold the baby for 4 hours while they refused to help us at all) we swore we’d never give them a dime of our money again!!! We fly often, maybe 20 flights with kids so far (all under 5) and Southwest is the way to go. They are one of the few airlines that actually has been respectfully to families. True they aren’t quite as cheap as Frontier and that bugs me because I would love to fly with cheaper flights, but to skip alllll the drama is well worth it!
Wonderful!!
Nice! Sounds like a great way to get away on the cheap!
What a great story! So glad you were able to take a family vacation
Had a great experience with frontier. Flew from orlando to RI roundtrip for thanksgiving. THANKSGIVING WEEK !! with a bag, seat selection & taxes my total was only $171.00. I mean seriously, u cant beat that. Smooth ride and all the staff were amazing. Highly highly recommend !!
I live in Denver, one of their hubs, and fly Frontier a lot. I’ve had one really terrible experience with them (6+ hour delay on a return flight after my mother passed away), but every other one has been fine. Definitely wouldn’t recommend flying on one of their planes for anything over 3.5 hours, as those seats aren’t very comfortable, but you can’t beat their sale fares. My son and I flew to Oklahoma this summer, and the actual flight (not including taxes and government fees) was only $7. Pro tip: cram everything in a backpack and use it as your personal item to avoid baggage fees. 😎
We flew Frontier for the first time in May thanks to a Hip2Save deal and were super impressed! Round trip from Indy to Austin for two with a bag and seats next to each other – only $150! You can’t beat that!
Too funny, I flew them in May from Austin to Indy. I’ve been in Austin 8 years and this was the first time home nonstop. No problems with frontier.
thanks for posting this! we have booked frontier for our trip in late October and I’ve been super nervous because of all the bad reviews.
I’ve read that if you buy your ticket at the airport, you avoid some of the fees (online fee). I’ve never tried it since I’m not near an airport.
I also bring my own reusable water bottle to fill up after security, powdered drink mix and snacks. Download movies from Netflix, pack my back pack and I’m good to go! I haven’t tried international flights yet tho
If you liked Austin, then you should definitely visit Dallas next!
Please share what’s good to see in Dallas. Just moved our oldest to U. of Dallas this August. Going to see her in October. Thanks!
There’s a ton to do here! If you’ll be in town from Sept 28th- Oct 21st, then definitely check out the State Fair of Texas! Otherwise:
The Arboretum- Dallas’ extraordinary botanical gardens
The Stockyards (these are located in Ft. Worth)
Dallas Museum of Art
Klyde Warren Park
Bishop Arts District & Uptown Dallas for amazing restaurants and shops
We love frontier! We never pay for bags, carry-ons, or seat assignments. We each just pack in a book bag that counts as our personal item. We always end up with seats together. No issues. Great staff and crew! Just got home from Disney yesterday. 3 roundtrip tickets from Ohio to Orlando were $143 total. Frontier is awesome!! We highly recommend!!
We did the $13 deal to
Orlando last year. Absolutely no issues. Amazing deal for a family of 6. I look every day hoping for a good deal to travel again lol. Haven’t seen much from our area under $59 though.
Love frontier! Been flying back and forth from Ontario, Ca to Orlando, Fl these last couple of months to see my family! It makes the distance feel smaller!
Can someone explain why Frontier is so cheap? Is it only certain times they offer those rates? Or how do you find them?
They’re cheap because the ticket price only includes a seat and a personal item (everyone uses a backpack) which has to fit under the seat. You’ll pay for everything else ( carry on, checked bag, select a seat, food/drinks).
Also the seats are pretty small and they don’t recline just permanently in a slight recline. I’m only 5’4 and think it’s a bit tight. There’s also limited flights on certain routes and they don’t contract with other airlines so a cancellation leaves you possibly stuck.
No frills but gets you to your destination. HTH
Sign up for emails. Just got an email for 90%off. Code “save90 “ for Tuesday , Wednesday, Saturday flights before 12/18 book by 9/17
We flee OKC to Orlando last Fall for a great deal! It was nonstop, too (bonus!). We didn’t pay for seats, but had no problem sitting together
Thanks for posting!I have also never a bad experience on Frontier!
I do tend to avoid United, though.
That is awesome! I found the crew on Frontier much friendlier than other airlines. Were you able to find a great deal on a hotel as well?
Just an FYI – flying in and out of Orlando is usually more costly than other airports; you can find deals but not like that.
My daughter had a flight to Savannah from Philadelphia on Friday, 9/7/2018 to meet her boyfriend who just got back from 6 months deployment. Frontier boarded the plane, let them sit there for 2 1/2 hours then brought the plane back to the gate. The full flight was told the flight was cancelled. She said on the floor of Phila In’t airport in tears to be told that the next flight they could put her on was Wednesday9/12/2018. No arrangements (hotel, etc) would be given. The other option was a flight leaving Trenton on Frontier on 9/8/2018 going to Charleston but Frontier will not pay to get you to Trenton. It was a nightmare. A very dear friend got her a ticket on American (not cheap) and we were able to get her a room for the night and UBER her to the hotel in the pouring rain and then get her back to the airport for her flight the next day on American. I called and complained to Frontier but to no avail.
I will say that I use Frontier and have one other bad incident This is first time I learned that if a flight is cancelled due to weather the airline is not responsible to put you up in a hotel. I have requested to see where in the small print it explains this but Frontier could not tell me.
Frontier is very cheap but buyer beware.
If a flight is cancelled due to weather/ acts of God, the airline isn’t responsible. That’s policy for ALL airlines. The “contract of carriage” will tell you what you’re entitled to and is different for each airline.
Also FAA rules a domestic plane can only sit on the tarmac for 3hrs so I’m guessing the pilots were waiting in line hoping to beat that clock. The plane had to return to the gate and the cancellation wasn’t frontiers fault.
I’m also guessing she couldn’t get a flight until Wednesday because frontier doesn’t fly all routes each day.
Frontier doesn’t have a contract with other airlines to book you on another flight so you are out of luck if something happens. Guess that’s part of why they’re so cheap.
We have had a few cheap get a ways & no problems. Family members have gotten stuck for day(s?)though when a flight was cancelled & another wasn’t scheduled. I guess that’s the risk. Frontier only flies certain routes & if a flight is cancelled, there might not be another to hop on. We’ve gotten awesome deals & have been so happy though.
