We love ours. My boys are 5 and 8. They set their own alarm, check the weather so they know what to wear, play music and do silly dances, set the timer for certain activities, etc.

I can set my kids’ alarms from my dot or phone app and also set reminders for school (remember to bring your library book) or sports (you have practice tonight at 6). I use the app to set a Bible verse for them to remember each month. I set it to play every weekday morning while they are getting ready for school.

I love being able to drop in on my kids and check on them. We have one in all of the bedrooms, and one in the living room. Though my 2-year old thinks Alexa exists solely to play “baby shark” for him!

why would a kid need this … people are giving kids too much access to tech. I actually work in tech … would never in my life use smart tech outside of a phone

It’s a parenting choice. I like that my kids can only play kid-appropriate music, ask it to read them a story and kid-appropriate facts. I can set a time limit for when it has to be turned off for the night and I can use it as an intercom. It comes with a case that keeps it from breaking.

It’s 2019, why are we still judging other parents’ or people’s choices. Just because it doesn’t have a need in your family, doesn’t mean it doesn’t make sense for others. My son has a disability and we have a echo for him, which has helped him gain some independence with turning on/off lights in his room, music, etc. Also we use it as an intercom to cut out the yelling across the house.

Ok…I’ve got a question. Since this device comes with a year of FreeTime Unlimited, will that be accessible to other devices on your account? We have the Kindle Fire devices, but do not have a FreeTime subscription. If I purchase this Kids Echo Dot with FreeTime, will the kids also be able to access that FreeTime content on the Fire?

We got the kids Kindles for Christmas 2017. I bought this for Christmas 2018. More because I didn’t want to pay the $83 for a year of Freetime. This was cheaper to buy for (at the time also) $39 and get a year of Freetime again for “free”. So yes, the Freetime works for all devices on your account.

We are currently paying for free time for two kindle fires. Will we be able to cancel and use this free year of free time for them as well? Is this what you did?

We got these for Christmas. They were very hard to set up because you need to use the Alexa app, the Amazon Parent website, and the FreeTime app. It took us four days to figure it all out. Just be aware. The kids really do enjoy them, though.
