You might want to do this very close to a trashcan with lots of paper towels also because what you pull out will be very gross. These do work!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh my! Thanks for the warning! I’ve never used one of these!

  2. JenB

I used one and it worked well for a small clog. Buying them when you find them is a good idea. I had a shower clog 2 weeks ago and couldn’t find any.

  3. Judy Trac @ Lipscomb

This is nasty with all the stuff coming out

  4. Kelly H

As a lady with long hair, my husband buys these in bulk at Lowes for $2-3 each. Grab a few and keep them in the cabinet. They work wonders!

  5. D

I just bought one there last week! I was and am super excited and happy about it! Mini win!!

  6. BooBoo

How many uses is one good for? πŸ™‚ Really want to try this!

    • BooBoo

Thank you to everyone for your response! Definitely grabbing as soon as I can! πŸ™‚

I have used the ones in the office several times. I snake the drains every week or so. We have people with long hair, so the drains collect hair. I had to treat the drains with Mister Plumber from Dollar Tree (works wonders) after snaking (there was enough hair to almost make a toupee!). I have been using mine for over 2 months now. I have them in my apartment, under my sink, and in my bathroom vanities. I just toss them when they start getting icky, however, they clean up nicely with plain old white vinegar.

Be warned, the goop that is on them after a routing is kind of nasty.

  7. Salley

I’ve used mine a few times. Some people may just throw them away instead of wiping the goo and hair off. Not really so hard to wipe it off. We live in a throw away society.

    • Tracy

People could use their garden hose.

      • Janet

A garden hose won’t cut it, as your pipes are similar. You’ve got to get the main offender in a blocked pipe – hair.

        • Buckeyemom

I think they meant to use the hose to clean the device…not to unplug the drain. At least that’s how I read itπŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

          • Ana

Me too, I think she meant take that thing outside and spray it off. I keep mine in the garage with the toilet plunger and get about 3 uses then I throw it out.

  8. Sue

We just take the p trap off the sink completly clean it out then replace it. It is not difficult and stays clean a long time.

  9. Rebecca

They are worth $1 for sure but the barbs are worn down after 1 use(for us anyway) so I’d pick up a couple while they’re available!!

  10. Katie

I used one of these last week! My sink was so bad that the water was draining SO slowly. I’d tried DrainO but it barely helped. This thing fixed it in 2 minutes! The stuff you pull out is DISGUSTING! I highly recommend this!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Wow! SO glad this helped! I’ll have to grab one the next time I head into my store! The sink drain in our kitchen bathroom has been slow lately! Ugh!

      • mdub

You have a bathroom in your kitchen??? Fancy!!!

        • SarahG

          Right!

        • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yes! LOL! It’s our half bath downstairs.

  11. Jenny

With my long, curly hair I couldn’t live without these! Mine is yellow and called a Zip-It. It lasts quite awhile if you’re willing to wash it off (and you are right there by the sink/shower!)

  12. Kathleen

These work great! My mom had a clog in her bathroom sink and was ready to call a plumber. I told her that I could fix it. She humored me but really had no faith that it would work. She couldn’t believe all the gunk and hair that came out. I made her a believer!!!

  13. J

I recently had a shower clog & found Green Gobbler on Amazon. It was $11 or $12 & works on any drain, no measuring and no mess, good for small or large clogs & is free of chemicals. It worked great for me! 4 stars & over 1,000 reviews.

  14. mel

I got one of these b/c my sink gets clogged up, but it did NOTHING, but get caught. I had one heck of a time trying to get it back out!

  15. *Angela-Miles*

I discovered these a couple years ago at the dollar tree and have been hooked on them since. I have 2 hanging in my laundry room and they do the trick every time! You can use them a few times if u spray them down and wipe them off with a disinfectant wipe.

  16. Joan Thompson

I just bought one to bring to my daughter’s house when I visit her next week. I hate showering at her house as the drain is always really slow. I end up standing in 3 inches of water. I have one in each of our bathrooms at home. LOVE them!

  17. Joy

Just be careful and keep away from kids because the barbs are somewhat sharp even though it’s plastic.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the warning, Joy! Good to know!

  18. Laura

I’ve used these when my vacuum clogs also.

    • jen

That’s a genius idea! Mine always clogs in an area that’s hard to get to, and this would be perfect. Why didn’t I think of that! πŸ™‚

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

What a great idea, Laura! Thanks for the helpful tip!

  19. michele

love the vacuum hose suggestion. thanks

  20. stephanie

These work incredibly well on sinks and tub drains. I recommend using rubber gloves (the muck that comes out is GROSS). Scrub the tool clean afterwards, and use again. I keep mine under the sink vanity, or hang from a pushpin in your utility closet.

If you can’t find at Dollar Tree, check WalMart for a Dr. Rooter 2-pack for $2.89.

  21. Ashley

I grab these quite often when I’m at Dollar Tree. I use them for drains and unclogging the hoses on my vacuum cleaner. Pet hair wreaks havoc on a vacuum!

  22. Julie

I haven’t found this drain rooter to be effective. I’ve tried it a couple of times. I seem to have more success with an old Chinese container’s metal handle.

  23. BrBa

I’ve never used this particular brand, but we have a Drano Snake Plus tool (comes w/ a bottle of Drano, for $6) and also one of those yellow Cobra drain sticks from Lowe’s (under $3), both of which do the same thing. We’ve been using them for years, in our 6 drains. They’re meant to be reused again and again- you just spray w/ disinfectant and rinse clean). If this particular product breaks after just 1 use or a handful of uses, then you are much better off investing in either the Drano or Cobra snakes instead of something disposable for $1.

  24. Amy

We too, have hair problems! I have found that tub shrooms are an amazing way to keep the drain from getting clogged in the first place. You throw it in your drain, pull it out after a few showers, wipe the hair off and put it back in. I haven’t had a clog since I bought them-a whole year! Much better than the terrible for you and the environment Drano!

  25. Allison M.

Bought one yesterday. Cleaned my clogged sink drain out in 2 minutes flat! 😍😍😍😍😍

  26. Kamrujjaman Hridoy

I ventured into drain cleaning as a result of fruit flies hanging around, even after I used a baking soda and vinegar wash on incoming fruit. After the volcanic baking soda and vinegar portion of drain cleaning my kitchen sinks, DEAD FRUIT FLIES presented their bodies laying in the now super clean sink. Only two, but my imagination immediately kicked into the possibility of an entire fruit fly city beneath the surface, that had just suffered a nuclear bomb.
    Very very satisfying house cleaning!
