Walgreens Balance Rewards

Attention, Walgreens shoppers!

Last November, Walgreens changed their Balance Rewards Program so that you could no longer redeem more than 5,000 points (a $5 reward) in one transaction.

This was a HUGE let down as so many people had banked points to use on larger purchases. 🙁

Well, rumor has it that Walgreens has been listening to consumers and will be making changes to the Balance Rewards Program again in April! While we cannot confirm all of the changes it seems that Walgreens may be upping the redemption amount back to 50,000 points (a $50 reward), which is the amount that was previously set before the changes took place back in November. 🎉

We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for any additional changes and let you know when we see them!

    You can redeem $10, $20, and $50 per transaction! Starting 5/5/19

    Honestly stopes going there because it got so confusing and didn’t seem worth it.

    • Berrysaves

      Stopped*

    • Imran

      Go to rite aid its much easier

      • mel

        yeah, Rite Aid was easier. Unfortunately in the buyout, I lost the RA’s in my area. All of them closed down b/c there was already a Wags within a 1-2 mile radius, so they didn’t convert. I miss Rite Aid!!

    I hope so. My spending there dropped by 90% since they changed to the $5 Max redemption. Hoping they don’t make the points expire sooner though.

    • K

      I didn’t know the points expire, makes me wonder if I’ve already lost some then

  8. llaura256

    Yeah, I quit going there too!

  9. cynthsherm

    I’m sure the negative correspondence they received and the drop in sales finally hit them. Duh. WHEN will they start listening to their customers?

  10. Connie

    So 40000 points for 50$??? Or 50000 points for 50$!! Not gaining anything really if 50000

    • JJ

      I want to know this too’

    • mel

      No, there’s no discount on points. Yeah, it’s a bummer that $50 isn’t 40,000 pts, but at least they’re letting you use them in a higher amount. I thought it sucked that we were forced into a max of $5. Like HELLO!! I EARNED those points and should be able to redeem them in any amount I need too!!

  11. Amber

    They probably should have asked first…

  12. Nn4ever

    10k = $10
    20k = $20
    50k = $50

    • JJ

      👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

  13. Nicole

    Thank goodness… I’m a 3 transactions max kind of gal to use rewards.

    Once they lowered to 5000 points redemption I stopped shopping there. I found it pointless for their promotions of buy $25 and get 7000 points if you couldn’t even redeem the 7000 points. Both CVS and Rite Aid lets you use your points in their entirety, so there was no point in shopping at Walgreens any longer unless the items were SO cheap that you couldn’t get them anywhere else with points. I’m sure I’m not the only one that stopped shopping there because of the points change.

    • Imran

      I wish cvs doesn’t use extra bucks and just use points to pay. I like rite aid it pays the whole thing. Walgreens need to follow the same like rite aid with their balance rewards

  15. Lo

    This kinda sucks. Feel like I’ve been wasting my points on smaller things since the change.

  16. Lordy

    This makes me sooo happy!!!

  17. Lulu

    This is Great news! It got too difficult to do several transactions using points, coupons, Ibotta, etc. Was losing savings, time and my sanity lol

  18. Lee

    I made complaints any time I got a survey, etc. The employees at my neighborhood store hate it too. They always allowed, and even suggested making separate purchases when they first started the $5 reward points only per transaction. They were embarrassed by the basic cheap tactics they were using with their long-time customers and knew it was ridiculous and they didn’t even try to justify it. Once I used up my points I started doing the majority of my shopping at other places because it wasn’t worth my time to figure out how to save money and use the rewards I had earned without hassles, etc. I suspect they lost a lot of business over this and really hope they have come to their senses!!!

    I’m so upset at WG. I had over 70k in Points that expired without any warning. Really avoid them now.

  20. duh

    I dont really know whats going on with their rewards prog… i always buy there and for my rx… i always scan my card but wth!!!.. i never get anything from them!

  21. laurrette m schuler

    I stopped shopping at Walgreens when they changed their rewards program wasnt worth shopping there – better programs out there

  22. Joe

    Since they went downhill with their rewards program, the only times that I have set foot in a Walgreens has been to pickup my free 8×10 photo.

  23. Imran

    Walgreens need to stop taking the rite aid stores and converting them
