More Target

Holding whale art from The Vineyard Vines Collection

The Vineyard Vines collection for Target launched on May 18th, both in-store and online in the wee hours of the morning. And just like their Hunter for Target Collection that launched in April 2018, many of the highly-anticipated items sold out online within a matter of hours!

Target storefront with a long line of waiting customers

The experience at many Target stores across the country was not much better!

We sent a team member out to their Target store early on Saturday morning, and they discovered a HUGE line of customers ready and eager to shop this new collection as soon as the doors opened.

Good News & Bad News!

The good news I was just at my local Target store in Reno, NV, and spotted quite a large selection of Vineyard Vines items still available to purchase, including the Vineyard Vines Wooden Whale Cut-Out Wall Decor, Vineyard Vines Flag Whale and Gingham Bean Bag Set, and more!

Note that many of the home decor, baby, and pet items are still in stock in stores and online, but the apparel items like the Men’s Polo Shirts and the Women’s Zip Pullovers are completely sold out.

The bad news is that Target reps have stated that the Vineyard Vines collection will not be replenished, so if you missed out, you’re out of luck for now. See Target’s Twitter comment below:

Check out what Hip2Save readers experienced on May 18th:

Went to my local target at around 8:45 AM on May 18th (just routine shopping) and it was madness! I overheard one of the managers speaking to a representative from Vineyard Vines, and the rep. said it was the biggest opening he’s seen (over 100 at 8:00 AM). The funny thing is that I live in a smallish town with less than 8K – who knew?! All of the clothing and most of the home items were long gone by the time I walked in.

I walked in my store at about 8:05 AM, and the whole area was packed already. There just happened to be my size left in what I wanted. The only thing I really wanted that they didn’t have was the pink half zip, I did get one for my daughter. I am happy I didn’t get anything online because I probably would have ordered the wrong sizes. I usually wear size 4 shorts and the 0 fit me perfectly. I never would have ordered that size. The home items weren’t selling that fast, still had plenty when I left, and they were restocking the bags. And the baby stuff was still there.

So I made it to the store a few minutes before they opened with only a few other ladies waiting outside. Got all the things I wanted except the polo which that store didn’t receive, and checked out, all within 15 minutes! Got lucky!

I checked at 4 AM central time, and they were sold out of the shirts I was wanting to get my boys.

Items are all gone, no restocking. You can check back to see if anyone returns anything, but more than likely it will be sold on eBay for 3 times the price before it is returned.

Another Target fiasco. Limited I understand, but selling out in 10 minutes, as you are checking out in the middle of the night in the east. Over 400 items already on eBay. Go Target! 🙁

(Thanks Sheryl!)

It’s super available at one in NYC. It really has nothing worth buying in my opinion.

    • Cherish

It’s definitely more of a southern thing. Surprising they even bothered in NY.

      • cooper

is it? the company was founded in Martha’s Vineyard, MA.

I’m in NY too and my local Target has tons of it in stock still.

      • Me

I would never guess this was a southern thing. I think it’s a new england thing.

        • Adam

New Englanders probably don’t need to wear what is local, where as the Southerns want to be part of Marthas Vinyard. Silly either way

I think the home stuff is in stock, because the flippers know it will cost too much to ship

    • Ms. Frizzle

Sounds like a passing fad. I’d never heard of it until my friend pointed out she bought her 10 yr old son 5 shirts for $50 on Craigslist. I thought- “big deal”- means nothing to me. She continued'” oh, but it’s what all the cool kids wear at school”‘. I guess my 3 teenagers don’t care, because they never said anything to me about it!

    • M

I tried to buy a few items online around lunchtime the first day it was available…once I got to the credit card screen everything was listed as unavailable – HATE THAT! Atleast give me a minute to buy or don’t let me put it in “my cart”, right? … Anyway, after seeing this post, I checked online again and lots of items have been added for anyone interested (I was able to actually buy this time). To me it is like a mini-outlet store for an otherwise expensive brand – some good stuff, some not 🙂 No need to hate, right? (Duffel and tote bags felt very sturdy/high quality and worth $35 or $40 if you need/want one if that helps anybody?)

  2. Mimi

It’s also still in my store. I’ve never heard of it and when I asked my friends about neither had they.

  3. Mamaofthree

I don’t get this at all. Lol.

    • Momof4

      Same🤣

      • Sheila

        Ditto

    • riss

Same here. Never heard of it til today.

    • Susan

      me either lol

    • Wren

      Me neither 😂

  4. lisamahan-followay

Honestly, I was really excited about the release of this brand… until I saw it. I don’t care for any of it. No offense, but I just don’t like it.

  5. Lindsey

That picture of people lining up…seriously? You would think it was free!

  6. Jessica

I kept seeing the whale on the self checkout and honestly I had NO clue what it was.. I only found out about it like the night before when Hip2Save posted about it. I saw the stuff and it doesn’t interest me at all lol.. guess I’m not missing out on anything 😅

  7. Lase

So glad I know nothing about this brand. Who has time for this? And I live in the south

    • R

      Same….ugly stuff in my opinion.

      • Ms. Frizzle

        Agree.

      • Amy

        I agree.

  8. Seeking

Agree, I wasn’t too impressed with the clothing options, but I’m not into it much at full price either. They were giving away really good popsicles in Chicago to advertise for this release. =P I seriously appreciated that! Haha

  9. Ash

I was super excited that Target introduced some VV items. I think this brand has really cute beachy items, and I was able to order some of them online.

  10. ShayShay

We have a Vineyard Vines outlet store here in SC (North Myrtle Beach).

    • Lily

Same here in Asheville, NC- Honestly, I walk by it and never stop there !! Maybe next time I’ll look around

    • Amy

We just got back from vacation in north myrtle beach. We stayed at the north beach plantation. It was an amazing condo! Just wish the pools were heated.

  11. DebY

Very popular, with teenagers , here in Minnesota. My boys live in VV t-shirts.

    • Jessica

Really? I live in Minnesota as well and I had never heard of it!

      • Emily

Same! I am not a teen, though, so maybe that’s why I hadn’t heard of it! 🤷‍♀️

My target in Eden Prairie had just about everything in stock as of yesterday. The nautical look doesn’t do anything for me, so I passed on this collection.

    • Jessica

I’ve never heard of this brand either and I’m a high school teacher in MN. Doesn’t mean much though, since were at least a year behind on trends 😂

    • Jamie46178

Are you in Minnetonka, Edina or Wayzata? I would assume the brand might be popular in those areas.

  12. llaura256

I dont really care about this line but why do a launch and then thats it when it sales out….? To test out other launches?

    • Mizz Mo

Target has been doing these limited-release collaborations with many designers over the years. Alice & Olivia, Liberty of London, Alice Temperley, Lilly Pulitzer are just a few of the names from the past. They do these launches to bring in business, draw attention to the designer and offer items at prices that are MUCH lower than what is offered at the designer’s flagship stores.

  13. Tiffany

Yes, very popular with the teens in TN. My son really likes their shirts and they usually sell for $40 for a long sleeve T

  14. BrBa

Definitely not a mostly Southern thing! VV is based in Mass. and all of their clothing is very preppy- extremely popular here in the Northeast, esp. among college kids.

    • Joy

I work at high school in Upstate NY and VV is very popular clothing line at our school. It’s all about your Van’s shoes, rippec jeans, Champion clothing (yes that super cheap brand you used to be able to get at Walmart back in the day; lol) and VV shirts here.

      • Joy

        Ripped jeans i meant😂

        • BrBa

OMG yes, Champion sweatshirts are now like, $60 each! It’s insane! Totally used to be affordable, just not trendy back then…:-/

      • shop4mybabies

Seattle WA here, Champion is incredibly popular and expensive lol i told my 15 year old, in the 80’s I was mortified because that’s all my mom could afford and now you’re paying nordstrom prices for it. also the hot dang fanny pack is back…my daughter said “MOM, fanny packs are so cool” and I said “the 80’s called and said YOU’RE WRONG!”

  15. Boymamato4

My store had some stuff left tonight, dress, bathing suit, pet and outdoor stuff.

  16. Sara Bonert

I woke up at 2am in Chicago, got on the app and was able to order a number of things. The pull overs and mens swim trunks were the only things sold out. I like the nautical look in my home and dress, so was excited for the launch.
I’ll take stuff back before I put it on eBay…I hate when people do that!

    • Jessica

I was reading on Twitter.. someone came into the store with a cart and just ran up to a display and wiped EVERYTHING into their cart… yeah you know where you’ll find all that stuff!

    • sadie

I couldn’t agree with you more! I’d rather someone else get to enjoy it, that me make a quick buck off them!

  17. Rebecca

Glad I’m not the only one who’s never heard of this brand!

  18. SS

I went at 10am to my local one and they had sold out of quite a few things already. I was able to get some fun things though! We love going to the beach and I love the nautical look so it was a win for me:)

  19. Phillip Dampier

EBay sellers use automated shopping tools to Hoover up high demand items from Target and other retailers. The software is capable of ordering up to 500 individual items a minute. Accounts are preloaded with Target gift cards for anonymous payment and to protect against burst credit card purchases which will trigger fraud alerts and suspend the cards. I’d say ordinary online shoppers had very little chance of competing against the EBay reseller crews, except Target will report out of stock on items based on regional warehouses. If you lived in an area not overloaded by resellers, you probably had an hour or two to order without everything being gone. There is nothing new about any of this. It stops when people refuse to order from EBay scalpers. In some areas, they hire low paid people to buy items in store in large quantities, although this is rarer.

  20. Sherry

I didn’t think I’d be interested in this but I stopped by Sunday afternoon and picked up a hat and pullover. Definitely not popular in SoCal but I liked the things I got.

  21. Bec

It is popular in Columbus, Ohio. I stopped in at Target Saturday morning for something else, and all of the clothes/hats/bags were gone.

  22. Mizz Mo

Everything sold out in our little area – but I was able to score all of the table linens I wanted online. The wood whale and cornhole game are still available online as well.

  23. Julie

I think this is the Member’s Only of 2039.

  24. ET

I’m in MA and at my Target today there was one tiny display towards the back of the store with some clothing (which are most likely returns) and home decor. So looks like people still bought out the stock even with a retail store 10 minutes away.

  25. LS

I had never heard of VV until 9 yrs ago. My boss wears a lot of VV ties, so i bought him one for Christmas. It was very expensive ($60?). Too expensive for a silly tie.

  26. Sadie

SO excited about this collection! Target is doing something right if there is a line out of the door – like black friday in the summer! I’m from the south and love Vineyard Vines so much, so I was happy to see it more affordable at Target! Scored a lot of the pieces too, yayyy!!
