NEW Coke cans from 1985

Flashback to 1985!

Coca-Cola is bringing back a limited number of New Coke cans in honor of the upcoming third season of Stranger Things, which airs on Netflix on July 4th, in which the product is featured.

The third season of Stranger Things takes place during the summer of 1985, which is when Coca-Cola first launched the new recipe for the flagship beverage. However, New Coke was a flop and was pulled off shelves shortly after it launched. But now they’re bringing it back for a limited time.

Starting at 5PM ET on May 23rd, fans will be able to purchase 12-ounce cans of New Coke online, made from the same recipe that sparked the 1985 revolt, as part of a bundle when they buy at least two limited-edition Stranger Things Coca-Cola or Coke Zero Sugar 8-ounce glass bottles.

Also, free cans of New Coke will be available for a limited time in an upside-down Stranger Things inspired vending machine in select cities, starting May 23rd in New York. Plus, people who buy a ticket or gift at the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta on select days during the week of June 3rd will have a chance to score New Coke cans as a gift.

Rumor has it that Coca-Cola has produced under 500,000 of these New Coke 12-ounce cans, so if you’re curious how it tastes, you’ll want to set your alarms and act fast on May 23rd!

Loooove Stranger Things! 🙃 Haaaaaated “New Coke! 😜 (Difficult for a southerner to say, but I’ll buy Coca Cola from Mexico bc it’s the “old” recipe with sugar.) Suggest having a palate cleanser nearby…

Thanks for the warning! I haven’t tried it! I also haven’t watched Stranger Things yet, but it is on my list!

why would it be difficult for a Southerner to say they prefer sugar recipe Coke? i thought many Southerners like to add sugar to their drinks, such as iced tea or coffee?
i am not trying to be snarky, i am seriously wondering, is it due to racism? Southerners don’t like to admit they would drink what Mexicans drink? i don’t get what your comment means.
or Southerners don’t want to admit they buy imported products?
i go to Mexico often, and i love a Coke Light or a Pepsi Edge every day when i’m there (these are formulations not available in the states. the diversity makes me happy.) but i’m not Southern, so maybe i don’t understand.

I’m a Southerner and I don’t understand either. Lol. But I don’t like coke just cause I don’t like it, old or new recipe, so maybe that’s why I don’t get it…

      • Sher

She was saying Mexican Coke is superior since it uses real sugar as opposed to hfcs and other chemicals.
        Nothing racist about that

I think she was saying it’s difficult for a southerner to admit that there is a Coke product she doesn’t like. 😊

I think she’s saying it’s difficult for a southerner to say they don’t like coke. No matter what soft drink were drinking, we call it coke! No racism whatsoever.

New Coke ruined the summer when I was 12! All I remember for months is just people complaining about new coke (including me). I was a kid and couldn’t figure out how adults would release a soda, that obviously hadn’t been taste tested.

    • Jennifer

Me too! I’ve been a lifelong coke fan but I abhorred New Coke. Still think it was a marketing stunt

  3. Cristine

😍😻 so excited for more stranger things!!

  4. Berrysaves

I was 9 and I don’t think I was allowed to drink it at that age. But , I kind of want to try it! Lol

  5. May

It was not good! I am old enough to remember LOL

  6. Mary Anderson

Guess I was the only one who bought and loved the New Coke. When they stopped making it, I stopped drinking Coke.

I think too many ppl want this? The link won’t load. Keeps saying it timed out. The site probably crashed. (Just started selling 15 min ago)

It’s working now. I’ve only been refreshing it for the last 3 hours and 45 minutes and their page is still having problems but I was finally able to place my order.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh good! Thanks for the update!

  9. Charlene

That’s weird they would even bring that back! It was a failure back in 1985 with Coke lovers! They lost money on it! So weird to bring something back that was so wrong!!!
