Personally I didn’t care for door dash. They got my address wrong than company called, the driver called. It was a mess. Food was cold by the time it got to me. Coupon still made it more expensive than doing uber eats. I personally hate paying more for delivery than actual food cost.

    • Chris

I agree. They charge ridiculous amount. I’d have to have a broken leg or broke down car before I paid theyre rate for delivery. I’ll take UBER anyday if I’m feeling too lazy to go get my own food.

Oh bummer! That does sound frustrating. Thanks for sharing your experience with us, Olivia!

I have only had wonderful experiences with DoorDash. My orders have come faster than predicted and have always been accurate and hot.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yay! SO glad to hear that, Deb! Thanks a bunch for taking the time to comment!

I love door dash over Uber or grubhub. Now, I do use it a lot and pay $10/month for the shipping pass so it isn’t that bad, typically I only pay tax on top of the order. For that it’s worth it to me. Grubhub is like $10+ in fees anytime I order! Uber was ok but now they added their own fees on top of delivery, making it at least $10+ for each delivery now too. I’ll pay $10/month for no delivery fees on most places near me.

Thanks so much for the feedback, Marie! Happy you have been enjoying the DoorDash service!

Just a good consumer head up on Door Dash. Compare their prices to the menu of the restaurant online and you will find most of the time they mark up the prices of the food. In addition to that they instantly add on a 15% service charge on the total of your food plus delivery is usually $5.99 and then a tip for the driver after that makes the cost of the food insane from them compared to getting it to go as they only deliver a small radius from your home. Also beware the suggested delivery tip includes the service charge and tax.

I totally agree – I tried using one of their codes and after paying the delivery fee, service fee, and tip my burger fries and drink from a fast food place was almost $20. Unless you’re disabled or it’s a one time thing for an emergency, it seems like a waste of money.

    • Kathleen

Most delivery services charge more than you would pay if you were buying the food in person, that’s how they make enough money to stay in business. They usually state that very clearly on their website.

    • Amy

My delivery is $1.99 I did get free shipping since it is my first use and they add 10% service fee. Which is not much $1-3. So using this $15 coupon is nice for me. Especially today I have 5 kids 3 of which are sick. Fingers crossed this works well for me. Please wish me luck. I need it after a rough night and day with the sick kiddos.

      • B

Aww hope your kiddos feel better soon!

We used Doordash for the first time last night as I had a $10 coupon to use by the 23rd . Our food arrived quickly but not the quality or quantity as the restaurant but still filling. We ordered Mexican and they forgot to put tortillas for one plate of fajitas so they gave us a $10 credit to use. With this code and my credit I think we will eat cheap tonight again . Thanks Hip2save .

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      You’re very welcome, Shey! Enjoy!

Does anyone know if the tips go directly to the drivers? I’ve read somewhere that it doesn’t, so I will have to ask the driver next time. It will suck if the company doesn’t give them a fair amount.

  7. dolcedelish

I’m a Doordash driver. There is no way to see how much each customer may or may not tip in the app…it’s listed as a total amount of tips for that shift. I encourage you to tip in cash to make sure driver gets it. We understand it’s not always convenient to do so. Quality and temperature of food is not in our control..we can control when we arrive to pick up food and placing it in our thermal bags..if the order will fit. Food may not be ready when we arrive, food may have been sitting on a bookshelf for a period of time before we arrive…which can effect final temperature upon arrival. Depending on packaging.. .we try our best to make sure everything is in the order. I personally don’t feel it’s sanitary to open containers that are not see through to verify contents. I may be able to ask restaurant to do so for me while I watch.. but that’s not always possible so we try to count containers in that case. Not a perfect system…but people still blame drivers for incorrect or missing items.

I’ve always had wonderful experiences with door dash. And always tip with cash so I know my driver is going to get it. Keep up the good good work and stay safe on the job.

Like too many jobs, im sure its very thankless. I would never blame the delivery driver but its undoubted that many would. Never really thought about the fact that while you want to assure the order is correct, there are only so many moves you can make. I do 1000% agree with the cash tip though. Whether at a restaurant or the salon or pizza delivery, cash tips are so recommended. I guess these days it must be harder to rely on tips in everyday life. I worked at Applebees in college and i was able to basically figure out a budget each week just on the tips alone. With hardly any cash tips now it must be so much harder to live off tips. I try to always give cash. It also stinks that they get taxed on the cc tips. Sometimes nearly 2 times (but thats an entirely different tangent LOL)
Just remember that you are appreciated whether you always feel it or not. ☺

    • Judy

I agree with this post, once we had an order missing and we called driver and he said he counted three containers; well we called restaurant and they were like “ yeah your food is here” without a care in the world, so it really isn’t drivers fault sometimes. Thanks for heads up on tips, will tip in cash now; always though drivers would see 0 and would not want to accept our delivery.

  8. Amy

Question can you use the referral $7 with a first order and the $15 code DDLOUNGE and get the free delivery?

  9. patricialavenz-goff

They called me and told me they were having problems with finding a place to park. I told them to call me when they found a place and I would come down. I know they are in a hurry because they have other orders and wanted to be kind especially as I knew it was hard to find a parking place. They never called and I never got my meal. Then I got an email saying it was delivered. Delivered to whom I asked. They refunded me my money but it was a pain in the………..

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

DARN! SO glad you could grab a refund!

  10. Janet

Sorry this code is no longer active…

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Bummer! I’m getting that message now too. Thanks for the heads up!
