Toyota is recalling 135,000 cars in the United States because the airbags may not inflate properly in a crash!

This recall includes some Corolla sedans (model years 2003 – 2008) and Matrix hatchbacks (model years 2005- 2008). Owners of vehicles affected by this second recall will be notified by mail by the end of October and dealerships will replace the airbags with improved versions at no cost to owners.

This recall affects front passenger airbags that were installed to replace faulty Takata airbags in the massive recall announced in 2016. It turns out that the replacement airbags may not unfold as designed in high temperatures, increasing the risk of injury in a crash. Toyota hasn’t confirmed whether anyone has been hurt due to this issue.

I just took mine in from the first recall last month. Hopefully, they replaced it with the newest one, so I wont have to take it back in. One can hope LOL!!!

Recalls aren’t surprising…but recalling cars from 2003 is.

You’re right…. bc Toyotas actually last that long!

Mine is a 2005, I appreciate when news comes out about older cars. One day I’ll upgrade, but for now, driving it till the wheels fall off.

Same. It takes me where I need to go and it’s paid off. When I get bored with it I change out the seat covers and sun visor lol.

It’s bc Toyota recalls each part or mechanism as needed or as they have the new parts available
I’m just glad they are so proactive about it bc these parts are on more brands than theirs too
Sadly my 2003 Matrix finally got retired to pasture but lasted forever

My mom (RIP) had a car I gifted to her in 2005, a 2005 Toyota Corolla, that we still have. We took it in for the first airbag recall.

Just 2 years ago we took it in and PAID because the airbag light was on. I hope that if this is the issue, we get refunded what we paid.
