I have these and they are not my favorite but they do the job. The cake pan actually slightly flares out so when the layers are baked and stacked each layer is slightly flared and has to be filled in with cream in order for it to look like a round cake.

Cake rounds out at the top when baked. It’s standard to trim the tops flat before layering. The purpose of these pans is to make it easier to have even, multiple layers where otherwise you would have to slice even layers by hand. Nice for making quick, fun projects with the kids or a family gathering.
I think she was trying to say that the sides of the cake flare, as in the pan is not perfectly straight on the sides and when you stack them they don’t stack into a flush cylindrical shape .
