Get Ready to Say Goodbye to Family Circle Magazine in December
Sad news for this beloved magazine…
Meredith Corporation, the media and marketing company that publishes popular magazines like Better Homes & Gardens, Magnolia Journal, Real Simple, Martha Stewart Living, and Southern Living, has announced that it will end publication of Family Circle magazine after its December 2019 issue.
Doug Olson, President of Meredith Magazines, issued the following statement:
“When we acquired the Time Inc. portfolio of media brands in January 2018, we doubled our presence in the women’s lifestyle category. Our portfolio philosophy continues to emphasize investing in brands that are market leaders and/or possess the highest growth potential. Sometimes, that means making hard decisions.”
Founded in 1932, Family Circle was acquired by Meredith in 2005. After 87 years, it’s currently published 12 times a year at the rate of about 4 million copies per month. If you are a current subscriber of Family Circle, you will receive another Meredith title until your subscription has been fulfilled.
So sad to see this go. My mom used to subscribe to this (and we would do some of the crafts) when I was little and I have gotten this off and on since I went off on my own (we won’t say how many years ago that was since it was a LONG time ago). Loved the recipes, etc…..bummer.
I remember, too!
Well, that sucks.
Nooo! I love this magazine!!! 😭😭😭
i always loved this magazine. You can always read old copies at the library
Very true! Thanks for the reminder!
Oh nooo! Recently renewed. Would rather have a refund than another magazine.
Agreed! Every time this has happened to me in the past, the replacement magazine I received didn’t interest me remotely.
I have had this happen to other magazines too, but they usually send a letter saying what it is being replaced with. I have gotten the option to get a refund for the remainder of the subscription price. Funny thing is I have gotten refund checks back on subscriptions I got for free. I’d suggest reading the letter when it comes to see if it gives you the option.
Love this one currently subscribing to it. Sad to see it going. One of the last clean magazines.
This was a total shock to me. I’ve learned so many recipes from them, health tips, decoration and cleaning tips…I feel so sad.
YES! It’s hard to imagine this one being gone.
My label says I’m subscribed until April of 2021 so wonder which mag I will get. On ValuMags.com they had a free 2 issue deal (Nov & Dec 2019) which I subscribed to for my mom. She used to get it years ago. I told her I liked the October issue but the Sept issue was filled with back to school articles which I didn’t need or read. I think the holiday articles in the last two issues will be entertaining for anyone.
I remember when my Mom paid only 10 cents for an issue of Family Circle. Today the tax on a single issue is greater.
What state do you live in? In Illinois, there isn’t tax on magazines and newspapers.
Aw, so sad! It’s one of the few clean women’s magazines out there!
Very sad.
Sad 🙁
I have so many good memories of this magazine. I can remember reading it and looking for recipes when I first got married, then crafts ideas to decorate my home. When kids came along it was a good source of fun activites.
I will miss it.
Me, too!
Sorry to hear this. They are folding all the good magazines that are left. What a shame.
This is a magazine related question: I subscribed to a bunch of free magazines that Hip2save posted. It was for paper magazines not digital, but all I get is digital copies. I used to get the paper ones before but they expired. Any ideas on what could be the reason for this?
Darn! Sorry to hear that. I have been receiving the physical magazines from the previous sign ups. Maybe try contacting them? Hoping some new offers pop up for you to grab again.
That’s a bummer. This has been a good one for years.
I’m going to ask for a refund for the free subscription I just ordered – J/K – LOL
I’m not surprised that magazines are going by the wayside. For the most part their content is available on a variety of blogs and it’s easier to add things to my Pinterest board than it ever was to clip out and organize magazine articles. I have a couple free subscriptions but I only read them at the beach or pool.
Thanks for this I was getting ready to use my points on Recyclebank to subscribe.
So sad to see it go. I have gotten it for 15 years I think. I will miss it. So many of the new magazines have recipes that I can’t use. My family is challenged and picky. They are just a meat and potato kind of guys and kids. They don’t like to eat new things. I am happy just to get them to eat real food instead of just pizza and chicken nuggets. LOL No tomatoes, no pork (not sure why they won’t eat it but…) no beans, no peppers, lol and the list goes on.
It’s sad that so many magazines are going away. I loved Money magazine and was very disappointed to see them fold as well.
Same thing just happened with a Money Magazine. They offered us a few months of Sports Illustrated, which we already get.
How do we get another magazine offered to us since Family Circle folded? It’s been two months since I received my last copy and I haven’t heard anything.
I too have received info that the magazine will be replaced and have heard or received nothing.
So how long do you wait for this new arrival?
I am very disappointed that I wasn’t notified that Family Circle was no longer being published. I had renewed my subscription for three years in 2019. Now, I am getting People Magazine and I was wondering why I was getting it, because I had not subscribed to it. If I had known that Family Circle was no longer being published, I wouldn’t have renewed my subscription.
I am so disappointed that Family Circle is no longer being published. I have been receiving People which I do not like at all. I had just renewed my subscription in the fall. Why were they sending renewal offers when they knew the magazine was not going to remain in existence? I would like to have been given a choice of the replacement I would receive. The People magazine sits here for a week or two and then goes to the recycle bin. What a waste of money to say nothing of the scam that was pulled.
I never received a notification that my subscription was not going to be filled. I want a refund. I renewed and it was to be until February 2022!!
