What’s the difference between a regular and kids edition? Looking for our almost 13 year old. Thanks!
The main differences are that it comes with a 2 year no hassle warranty, 1 year of Freetime (your 13 yo might be getting too old for most Freetime offerings…), and a case. The non-kids, sale version comes with ads, but they’re just on the lock screen.
Thank you! I read that the case is removable though and you can make the kid edition not so restricted. Not that we need to, but good to know.
True on both items. My kids have had them for a few years and I can easily switch from a kid’s profile to an adult’s profile and do whatever I want on it. And I like that I can remove the case and give it a good cleaning. The kids take the Kindles in certain places with a lot of germs. :/
Is this a better deal at kohls on bf with the 15 cash back?
It depends on what you’re getting. I was going to get the 7″, but for $70 I couldn’t resist the 8″ due to twice the storage space.
These fire tablets have microSD slots for storage to be increased. If you download movies you may need it.
They are also offering 20% off when you trade in an old kindle fire, even if it doesn’t work! My husband had a 1st generation that the touchscreen stopped working. We only got $5 trade in for it, but worth the 20% savings on a new one for our daughter!
How long is the coupon good for?
Hi Erica! I did find the details for that offer over here. Hope that helps!
Awesome deal for sure! Thanks for taking the time to share those details with us, Suzanne! Happy you could grab the savings on a new one!
Thank You for sharing! I was able to do a trade in for our old kindle that wouldn’t hold a charge. I wasn’t going to do it again, but I wanted to give the kindle one more chance. I did the 8″ 32gb got it for $63.
I was wondering about this…..if I send the trade-in now, by the time they receive it and send the 20% what are the chances the black Friday sale price will still be available? Or is it already ‘pre purchased’ at the price available at the time u hit the trade in button?
I did it yesterday…when you click on the trade option ,it asks some questions and tells you how much of a gift card they will send in addition to the coupon. I clicked “ok”. The ten dollars and 20% was automatically Applied. I got a new one for about $15 after trading our old one in.
Are those good for school works for elementary schoolers? I want to get one for my son but I’m wondering which is better between kindle fire or this one?
Are they able to watch movies on these devices?
dont waste your money on a 16 gb. seriously limits the number of apps and functions of the tablet.
Do they take SD cards?
You can add an SD card up to 128GB.
I added two of the 8″ tablets to my cart at target.com but its not taking $20 off (even when i go to check out).
It’s not working on the 8″ tablets at Target. I just updated the post. You can get that deal at Amazon!
Anyone think there will be a better deal on Cyber Monday?
I’m personally not sure but I bought mine back in July when it was buy 2 for $49. That was a great price and I keep the second one put away in case my little one breaks the other one.
Can they watch YouTube on theses?
Be sure and go thru Ratuken. 5% cash back on tablets.
Thanks, Stacy!
Can they listen to music on this?
It seems that if you get a new one each year is cheaper than paying 1-Year FreeTime Unlimited….
Yep. That’s what we do. But I figured out my kids don’t really care for the free time anyway. They are mostly watching YouTube.
I’m clueless about kindles 😄- can kids upload their own apps on these or are they pre set. Do they allow internet access? Thanks!!
You download the apps. There are some apps that are no available since you are downloading from the amazon store (not The App Store or Google Play.) you give them access to whichever apps you have downloaded. Then they am an access those specific apps from their login. With freetime it basically list all kinds of games, books and videos they can use. At the end of the free year those will disappear and your kid will have access to the apps you have marked to “share”
Thank you SO much for this feedback cBethS!
They do have internet access. But no browser unless you download it. Some of the games need Internet.
If I take these out of the house will they still work? Recommend age for these?
Last time we bought the kids one which included the free time. I actually did not care for it at all. It was overwhelming for me…and my kid has an unlimited amount of apps at her fingertips, so she’s just jumping from app to app to app and not really enjoying or benefiting from any.
I love that you can add additional storage, which we did. Yes you can listen to music and Browse, you can watch YouTube (which we didn’t add bc we wanted this to be an educational tablet), we added Netflix though, and our child has access the children’s shows there. It’s great for $15 if you have an old trade in.
