There’s another Listeria-related recall in the news

Almark Foods has expanded its voluntary recall of hard-boiled eggs to include all hard-boiled eggs manufactured at the firm’s Gainesville, Georgia facility. The original recall was issued on December 20 due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. This outbreak has been linked to several reported illnesses in multiple states and one reported death in Texas.

The recall has since been expanded to include all of the company’s retail, pillow pack, pouch pack, frozen diced, and protein kit products sold at retailers like Walmart and Trader Joe’s. Trader Joe’s has also issued a recall of its own due the fact that its potato salad and egg salad were made with the recalled eggs.

The expanded recall does not affect eggs purchased at the store and then hard-boiled at home – only store-bought hard-boiled eggs and products containing them. Consumers are urged not to eat store-bought egg salad or any other ready-to-eat prepared foods containing hard-boiled eggs.

The affected products can be identified by the “Best If Used By” date on the product’s package. If the “Best If Used By” code starts with the letter “G”, the product was manufactured at the company’s Gainesville, Georgia facility and is subject to the recall. For Protein Kit products, consumers should check the code on the actual egg package within the kit.

For a complete list of the recalled products, please see the FDA’s expanded recall. Consumers with additional questions may contact Almark Foods’ Customer Helpline at (877) 546-0454 Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM EST.

Thank you for posting this. Generally don’t purchase hard boiled eggs but will get them from time to time on a salad bar.

2019 was definitely not a good year as far as food recalls were concerned. Really appreciate that the Hip2Save team posts this important information.

The hard-boiled eggs sold at Kroger in Texas are also under recall. I just returned mine today.

Just got food poisoning from Panera and the only thing I ate that my co workers didn’t were the hard boiled eggs. 🤢 so don’t eat them on your salads at Panera word to the wise.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh bummer! SO very sorry to hear about that, Jena. Hoping you feel better soon!

I’m literally eating deviled eggs right now 😂 good thing I got them from Albertsons!

I hope they weren’t made with Lucerne 6 Count Stand-Up Pouch Cage Free Hard-Cooked Eggs. I believe that Lucerne is an Albertsons brand and, also, on the recall list.

This must be why my CFA said they had no hard boiled eggs indefinitely!

Just coming to say the same thing!

I got a recall notice for hardboiled eggs from Fresh Market the other day. Included prepared foods with hardboiled eggs. Cobb salads and the like.

Thanks for the helpful comment, Erin! Good to know!

I read an email about this on Tuesday. We bought them to make deviled eggs. I’m so glad that we saw the recall before spoiling our Christmas. 🤢
