Will your local Macy’s be affected by the newest round of store closures?

Business Insider is reporting that Macy’s plans to close 30 stores in the coming weeks. In 2016, the company first announced that it would close 100 stores after reporting six consecutive years of declining sales. Since then, Macy’s has been closing these locations as their leases expire.

There has been no official word from the company on whether this recent wave of closures was part of the 2016 plan, but a company representative said that Macy’s “regularly reviews” its store portfolio and would provide a more detailed update on the company’s Investor Day, scheduled for February 5th.

Clearance sales are set to begin soon at the closing locations, and they will run for approximately eight to twelve weeks. To see the complete list of stores affected by Macy’s planned closures, visit BusinessInsider.com.

SO sad. I’m not in this business, but sometimes I wonder if these stores downsized on their B&M overhead, maybe they could survive? I’m glad to see my local Macy’s stores are staying open (for now), but man… some of them are SO huge. Their footprint is just so enormous, their overhead has to be a revenue killer. I have visions of these amazing stores reinventing themselves with self-serve kiosks at the beauty counters (vs. several sales consultants bombarding you as you walk through), racks that hold more than 20 garments at a time, and utilizing the half empty walls where garments once hung in abundance. Maybe…

I’ve really missed having Younkers around at Christmas time, especially. I’ve placed a couple orders with Macy’s online, but the nearest physical store is several hours away. A sad sign of the times.

Mine is on the closure list after 50 years. 🙁

Nooooo one of the Macy’s that I shop at is closing too. Ugh, that sucks especially for that mall.

Everything is going online which stinks. There are still items that I can’t order without trying on first.🙁

There are now online services for that too though. Try before you buy.

Somehow all three within 10 mile radius Macy’s stay open.
Check your Lands End stores though, if you have one nearby, LE is pulling all their physical stores within Sears stores out. They are opening stand alone stores instead, but none near me. 🙁

I have never been in one.

Our mall just lost Sears. We still have Macy’s and JCP anchors but we’ll see.

My store is closing after 70+ years. We don’t have any other department stores. It’s really sad.

We lost Sears and our Macy’s is on the list.

I feel for all the families that are effected by this. All the stock workers, cashiers, sales associates, managers, assistant managers etc. This has become a trend, our economy is getting worst and worst.

Omg! I am really worried about the employees and their families. It’s won’t be easy for the impacted families 😔

Our Sears is closing down, and I feel bad for the employees 😥
