Ocean Spray has agreed to pay $5.4 million to resolve claims that some of their juices were falsely advertised as containing “no artificial flavors.” This settlement is the result of a 2017 lawsuit, which alleged that Ocean Spray wrongfully represented their products as containing “No High Fructose Corn Syrup, Artificial Colors or Flavors” in order to deceive customers into purchasing their products.

The plaintiffs claim that Ocean Spray juice products contain a synthetic form of malic acid, which is derived from petrochemicals and produces a tart flavor in food. The company has not admitted to any wrongdoing but has agreed to resolve the claims within the terms of the $5.4 million settlement.

This settlement benefits anyone who purchased certain Ocean Spray products between Jan. 1st, 2011 and Jan. 31st, 2020. A full list of included products is available in the “Who Is Covered” section of the class-action lawsuit’s website.

The settlement will provide $1 in cash for each product purchased. Up to 20 products can be claimed by a household, for a maximum payment of $20. No receipts are required, but claimants will be asked, under penalty of perjury, to provide the date of the purchase and the address of the store where each purchase was made.

In order to benefit from this settlement, Class Members must fully complete and submit a Claim Form by July 10th, 2020. This can be done either online or by mail. More information can be obtained directly from the class action lawsuit’s official website at ArtificialFlavorLitigation.com.

Hmmm….how would anyone remember dates they purchased juice?? Maybe stores but not dates over the last several years.

    • J

Exactly! How in the world can we remember the dates. We’ve purchased so much Ocean Spray juice & specifically the ones that said they didn’t contain any artificial ingredients. Scary to think we trusted this brand & now what an insult that they are in essence getting away with it by simply paying a settlement, which most of us won’t even be able to get a penny.

  2. Bunny

I have recurring UTIs and always have Ocean Spray cranberry juice in the house. Like Erin, I remember always buying them at Kroger but the dates….

    • Crystal

You can search your purchase history on Kroger’s website. I was able to search back to 2018.

  3. Emily

When was there that sale on the pink-lite juice (last year or two years ago?) when there was a coupon and the cartwheel deal? I def bought this juice then.

    • lynnleco

      Me too!

    • momjohn

      I did too.

    • Wendi

Based upon my purchases the OS Pink promos were offered from January -March 2019.

  4. MrsG

I just did the best I could. We had bought a ton of cranberry juice among other juices in the last 9 Years, but I have also lived in 5 cities and have no clue exactly where or when they were purchased. Or exactly how many.

  5. Patrice

I’ve certainly bought more than 20 bottles since 2011 as there are 3 flavors my kids and I love. I just put where I bought them, because I was certain of that and said that I didn’t know what dates I actually purchased. We’ll see if that’s good enough.

  6. Lori

Purchase dates….that’s crazy! I buy it every 2-3 weeks so i just used dates from June 2019 – Jan 2020.

    • huertac1

That’s how I did my dates. Grocery shopping every other week…not even possible to remember dates!!

  7. Ann

So do we have to do 20 different times?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Ann! It looks like you can provide the amount purchased and each address of the stores you purchased them from, on the same form. Hope that helps!

  8. Cynthia

Thank you. I buy at least 2 every week. I submitted my claim online with the stores and addresses where I almost always shop.
Shame. I trusted Ocean spray. It’s great juice.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re so welcome, Cynthia! Happy you can submit a claim!

  9. tipaye

    Thanks!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      You’re very welcome!

  10. patricialavenz-goff

Thanks. My kids love the lite one.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re most welcome! We have liked that one too!

  11. hellfiregainz

I’ve bought many in those years and qualify. However, I don’t remember the dates, and honestly it’s not worth $20 to mess with court systems. I know many who do every lawsuit imaginable that don’t require any “proof”. I feel like someday someone is going to take a peek through history and find the same person’s name under most lawsuits and finally challenge them in the court.

    • Mary

Totally agree with you! The $20 in no way, shape or form will rid my body, or kids’, of ingesting derivatives of petrochemicals. And to add insult to injury why on earth would I give these lawyers any of my private information?

  12. Kate

I mostly shop at Hy-Vee and Pick ‘n Save so I was able to look through my receipts to find the dates and flavors of juice purchased and when.

  13. Lana

Buy your cranberry juice drinks at Aldi from now on. $1.49 at my store and they are so much better than Ocean Spray.

This thing is not worth my time for $20! We switched to the Aldi one a long time ago.

  14. Wendi

I found my purchases in my fetch rewards app. You can look up your receipts for the last few years. And I just made one claim listing all 20 purchases listed by store with dates. Hope this helps…😊

    • Qgirlfriend

Great idea! I’ll check Fetch for my receipts. Thanks! 🙂

      • Wendi

        You’re welcome 😊

    • Wendi

Emily…the O. S Pink Cranberry promos occurred in January-March 2019 based upon my purchase history…

  15. JenB

They put the tart flavor in there on purpose? That’s the worst part of the drink!

  16. jen13289

I think it’s a pretty crappy situation, to pay anywhere from $3.69-$4.99 a bottle or $2/$5.00 at a time, and to only be able to be reimbursed a maximum of $20.00 Do you know how many bottles I’ve purchased over a period of about 9 years….. Absurd!

  17. Kayla

I worked on this for an hour before I sent it to Hip2Save.
You may have more of an electronic record than you think. I was not able to see my purchases using the Target Circle offers on Ocean Spray Pink, but I did use Ibotta often, to submit “any receipt” for 10-20c. I found copies of many of those receipts and was able to pinpoint 17: nearly the max allowance.
I spent a fraction of a dollar for many of those bottles when paired with the Ocean Spray coupons. This is possibly a money maker a year or so after the fact.

  18. Vivian

If you did the Target + Ibotta deals, you can look up the posts on Hip2Save and then scroll through your Ibotta earnings history to get the picture of the receipt that you uploaded!

  19. Cassandra White

I just bought Ocean Spray the other day at Target.

  20. kim s.

i keep getting pink cranberry that is 6 months old from target, do they not check their inventory

  21. Brandy Ketchum

Concerned that Ocean Spray has been hiding putting Red Dye #40 which causes cancer in non-diet juice we needed for our UTI health!
