Art Van Furniture Closing All Stores | Liquidation Sales Start March 6th
The midwest is losing one of its most popular furniture stores. 😔
The company that owns Art Van Furniture announced today, March 5th, that it’s planning to close all of its company-owned stores in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Ohio. The company also owns the brands Art Van PureSleep and Scott Shuptrine Interiors.
“Despite our best efforts to remain open, the Company’s brands and operating performance have been hit hard by a challenging retail environment,” said Diane Charles, Art Van Furniture spokesperson. “We recognize the extraordinary retail, community, and philanthropic legacies that Art Van Furniture has built for decades in the community.”
Named for Art Van Elslander, the furniture store started in 1959 with one location in Detroit, growing to become the number one furniture and mattress retailer in the Midwest.
“On behalf of the Company we want to offer our sincere appreciation to our employees for their dedication, commitment and hard work. We also want to extend our gratitude to the many customers, vendors, franchisees, charities and communities who have supported these retailers,” said Charles.
Liquidation sales will begin Friday, March 6 at all Art Van Furniture, Art Van PureSleep, and Scott Shuptrine Interiors in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, and Missouri.

Wow, we literally just bought our new couch here two weeks ago. We purchased the protection plan. Should we call and cancel it?
I would call and ask if another company is going to honor it. They may have sourced it out.
That is how it should be run I’d assume. American was like that when it closed. We had a few extended warranties that were still good through someone else but we kept our information for it as the second they closed they got rid of all their files.
Most protection plans aren’t warrantied through the store itself. It is most likely with a 3rd party such as Guardsman. If something happens, you would call them for service.
If we don’t make any claims though, we are rewarded a 50% refund on an ArtVan Rewards Card 🙄 not sure how to feel about that part
Wow!! This is my favorite furniture store!! My bedroom set, my couches/end tables and dining room table are all from Art Van 🙁
We got a relatively expensive furniture set there. While I didn’t buy the saleswomans spiel that it would last 15 years, I did at least expect more than a year before it started breaking down. For the price, it was crap.
So upset. I just bought my daughter a bed and it was back ordered till May! I’m hoping they give me a refund because they will be out of business by then. I may never get it in May. :0(
Do a chargeback if they don’t.
If you put it on a credit card I would start process now, because credit card companies have a window they work in and if lots of people do claims it makes it hard to get refunded quickly.
People on the Grand Rapids news who are in the same situation claim they’re getting no furniture and no refund. WXMI.com
I’m in the same boat. I went in the store today and they told me we won’t get the bed. They said they will only refund store credit. The employee said she recommends I dispute the claim With my credit card if I didn’t want anything else. Sucky situation.
According to the news in Grand Rapids, 3000 employees got no notice and found out just like we did.
Quality was not good enough for the price paid. We had so many problems with my kids beds delivered. They delivered set those beds up, scratched, beds did not look too good, asked to replace scratches, never did. I was dissapointed with this furniture store, so I don’t care about closing. I do feel bad for people loosing jobs….
We literally just made the first payment on our new furniture, that we purchased the warranty on. I called yesterday to inquire about the warranty and was informed that there is no cancellation, pro rating or refund available
So who still honor it if we need to file a claim
We went into a store tonight to ask, the warranty is null and void, there is no company that underwrites them. Unless there is a warranty from the manufacturer basically there is nothing you can do.
