Princess Cruise Line Revises Cancellation Policy in Wake of Coronavirus
Having second thoughts about an upcoming cruise? 😬
Princess Cruise Line has developed a temporary cancellation policy that provides the flexibility to reschedule any currently booked cruise that sails between now and May 31, 2020.
The cruise line will also be amending final payments on cruises sailing during the month of June.
The details of this new policy vary by departure date, but flexibility will be allowed for all new and existing bookings on cruises and cruise tours worldwide during the specified window of time.
Available options for eligible cruises can be seen on the Notices & Advisories page of the cruise line’s website. Customers are also being offered cabin credit should they choose to continue on their current itinerary.

I was talking to someone that has a cruise with them in May. There are also several other costs surrounding their cruise like hotels in port city and airfare. Wonder what happens to that?
Travel insurance. People often think it can’t happen to them, but think again. It really is very little to get it and, for us, it is simply all about peace of mind.
When our cruise was cancelled because it caught of fire they reimbursed us for everything without our travel insurance so we lost $65 by having it. Plus, people have been saying travel insurance doesnât cover this.
We are booked on an Italy cruise in April. We always buy trip insurance. We found out trip insurance does not cover pandemics. Corona Virus is considered a pandemic in this case
Hi. I am a travel agent. Just wanted to let everyone know that it is correct that many travel insurance policies have epidemic as an exclusion but there are some policies that do not exclude it. You just need to research it a bit.
V mm
Disney cruise line has also implemented something similar.
MSC still holding onto our money. No cancellation unless you want to lose it all. Wonât even let us move the date.
MSC is really bad, worst cruise.
Sylvia I wholeheartedly second that! Worst cruise of 13 we have done- 4 lines! We wanted off the ship day 3! Never ever again even if it was free. The two biggest cruise ship drug busts in the state of FL for ships were the Divina and Seaside.
We are sailing on Disney in two weeks and got a letter today that they will be checking our temperatures before being allowed to embark. Also we can cancel and get a 100% cruise credit to rebook within one year. We can cancel up to the day before the cruise.
I wish MSC would going Tuesday and flying to Miami and my husbandâs a wreck!!! His very first cruise go figure đŠ even with insurance it makes no difference???
Had a friend come back from a carnival cruise last week. They werenât allowed to get off the ship at any port but Cozumel. A crew member had the flu (not corna). Cozumel made the crew member retest and get results in prior to allowing them to get off the ship – they were ducked 2 nites. đ They were able to spend several hours off the boat but many of the shops didnât open for them. Everyone is being VERY cautious.
We have a european cruise booked in May through Norwegian. We paid $3,600 for it in November and it’s now $1,700! The deal finder in me is dying a little but they haven’t changed their cancellation policy yet. I hope they do! To the commenter above, our last cruise was cancelled years ago because the boat that was on it’s way to pick us up for our cruise caught on fire. Remember the Carnival one that was stranded for ages in the ocean? I just have bad luck with cruises đ They reimbursed us for our cruise and flights (even my mother in law’s flight since she flew in to watch our kids). Hoping they do the same if they cancel the Norwegian cruise in May.
Ours just went down $300 on Royal. They wouldnât budge so we canceled for free and when we get the certificate weâre going to rebuy the same cruise. All we wanted was onboard credit but Now weâll have our cash back.
How did you cancel for free in Royal?
RCCL, Carnival, and Disney changed their cancellation policies today for cruises booked through May 31st
They refund the taxes straight back to the method of payment. They issue the base cruise fare in certificate. So I guess in all actuality itâs not a complete refund but thereâs no penalty fees either. we planned to use the certificate anyway.
We also booked through Norwegian! They are changing their policy on Tuesday. Keep on the look out.
I think this may be the end of some cruislines. Between the norovirus, the coronavirus & terrorism at sea MANY ppl are opting to never cruise again. Me being one of them!!
It’s pretty great that they are letting people cancel if they are worried. We have a cruise the beginning of April and we were booked in an inside cabin, but they just upgraded us to a balcony for free, plus we are getting the extra $200 onboard credit for not cancelling! I guess a lot of people must be jumping ship due to this mess. I’m still excited to go!
Wow, that’s great! Which cruiseline is it, if you don’t mind me asking? We have a cruise with Royal Caribbean at the end of April. It’s only a 3 night so I’m hoping it won’t be too bad.
It is on Princess. 7 night California Coast.
Wow…that may be the same one we are on!
Little nervous, but we are still going at this point
It is on Princess. 7 night cruise.
Yes, end of March
We just got back from a Celebrity cruise yesterday. It was great, ported at Cozumel and Key West as planned. We were not turned away by stores. Some locals at the ports had masks on, but we seen those in Miami and MN too. People are going to miss out on a great vacation, why, because of what ifâs? We used a lot of hand sanitizer like we have on past cruises and had a great time!!
With little kids, the ifs are pretty scary. I am supposed to leave next Saturday for a7 night cruise with MSC. As a parent, I need to make the best decision for my children. I feel the risk outweighs the reward – even if we lose our money. The AC systems on cruises can only filter out particles that are larger than 5,000 nanometers. SARS (another Coronavirus) is only 120 nanometers. The AC system will cycle the virus through all the cabins if someone onboard is infected. Airplane AC systems are more sensitive and able to filter out virus sized particles.
I get it, I have three kids, I was with my 13 yr old on the cruise. I only commented because I wanted to share that the cruise and ports we were at were the same as the many others Iâve been on. We werenât treated any different. Cruise ships are only one thing that this can spread on. There are hotels, schools, grocery stores, place of work, gas stations, etc. The media is planting so much fear in people that soon people wonât enjoy life they will sit in their home alone and afraid. I chose to take the chance and go on the cruise that my daughter had been looking forward to for several months and we had a great time.
Carnival and Royal Caribbean announced revised cancellation policies as well.
I wouldnât chance going on a cruise right now. I work in public health. California is going through it right now. Over 20 ppl out of 46 tested positive from a cruise. Too many unknowns, not enough tests at the moment. People walking around with it and not have any symptoms. Itâs hard to contain. I would lose my mind sitting on a boat in isolation waiting on test kits. No maâam! My PhD graduation is in CA this summer…not booking anything. Worked hard for this moment but Iâll find another way to celebrate I guess.
Praying for you all who are brave enough to go…safe travels
We have a cruise booked next week with Royal Caribbean. Have spent a total of 4 hours on the phone trying to cancel with no luck getting $ back. I work in healthcare and they requested a letter from my employer stating that travel was not advised. I submitted it along with proof of employment and they still havent refunded or canceled our reservations.
Holly, that’s terrible! I hope you’re able to get your money back.
Holly,
Royal Caribbean implemented cruise with confidence today. This means that you can cancel the cruise without penalty. Their wording is confusing, however if you choose the future credit option they will send you a credit voucher for the price of the cruise for a future trip. The taxes and fees they will reimburse you. I hope this information helps.
“We get it. Whether youâre already booked on a cruise, or are thinking about it, we want you to Cruise with Confidence. Thatâs why Royal Caribbean will let you cancel any cruise that sets sail from now through July 31, 2020. Whether itâs a booking you already have or one you make right now, youâre covered. As long as you cancel at least 48 hours before you set sail, youâll receive a Future Cruise Credit. The credit can be used toward any cruise that sets sail through December 31, 2021.”
Need to purchase a âCancel For Any Reasonâ insurance policyholders which does include pandemics. The cost is higher, but then again, what price tag do you put on peace of mind?
Norwegian just sent out a cruise with confidence email!! Woohoo!
Update 6:12 p.m. EDT March 8: U.S. citizens, especially those with underlying health conditions, should avoid cruise ship travel, the State Department said Sunday.
