Amazon boxes on porchThis article was last updated on 4/1/2020

Amazon is answering questions regarding recent shipping delays and item availability.

Amid widespread store closures due to coronavirus and shoppers wanting to avoid the crowds at stores that are still open, online shopping has become a lifeline for countless Americans.

However, this recent and unexpected surge in online shopping has left Amazon struggling to meet the needs of many of its customers. While Amazon’s daily operations continue, delivery times are longer than usual with reduced availability of many high-demand items.

Amazon has taken measures to keep up with increased demand like hiring over 100,000 additional workers, prioritizing shipments of essential items and offering increased No-Rush shipping rewards, but many customers are still experiencing significant delays with their Amazon-fulfilled shipments.

Recently, Amazon added a new Frequently Asked Question page to its website, addressing these concerns and other questions that have been raised by customers as the coronavirus crisis continues to unfold.

Amazon is currently working with its selling partners to prioritize household staples, medical supplies, and other high demand products. While customers in the US will have to wait longer than usual for shipments of non-essential goods, Amazon is still accepting orders for these items and shipping them out as they can.

The information shared on the FAQ page covers other areas of customer interest as well, such as what the company is doing about returns, price gouging, and increasing the availability of Prime Now and Fresh delivery.

This post from Amazon’s Day 1 Blog is also being regularly updated with the latest information on how the company is protecting the safety of its customers, communities, and employees during these challenging times.

I’m actually really okay with this. With most of us staying home, and the stores all out of essential supplies needed, kudos to them to put priority on essentials! I appreciate this move, and hope it helps all who can’t find what they need at stores, or can’t get out.

    • Suzanne H

      I agree!

    • Kara

I’m with you….I’m fine with this. Yes, I have prime and I pay for that service but I am SO THANKFUL to get my items at all without running out to a store. (I have ordered things that have come between 3 and 5 days so far during this time period) I have also done store pick up only to find out that my item is “no longer in stock” on the day that I’m supposed to get it but was in stock the day that ordered it. (and to be honest, I’m not even able to get store curbside pickup within three days of placing my order!)

    • nurselex

      Yes! Me too 😊🙌

    • Marinova

I’m actually really NOT okay with this. Who decides “essential”? My husband (healthcare worker) wants to keep his lunch separate from the community refrigerator and so we needed a small refrigerator for his lunch. Apparently that wasn’t “essential” because most I found would not ship until April. It seems pretty presumptuous for Amazon to decide for everyone what is essential and what is not; what is related to stopping COVID spread, and what is not. I understand the sentiment, but I find the fact that Amazon is doing this both presumptuous and unacceptable.

      • Tia in FL

I agree, Marinova. That was my thought when I first saw the article. For science, my daughter’s teacher decided they all should start a small garden. Amazon must consider the “beginner garden kits” as toys or something because most weren’t shipping til end of April. Home Depot wins this round.

      • karen

I think the reason you will not get your order until April is not because it’s not considered essential but because there is a shortage in supply of refrigerators/freezers. I am just glad amazon is there to deliver me my goods and in all honesty they are still faster at delivering compared to other stores.

        • Marinova

I have not heard there was a shortage. They were in stock at Target and Walmart with much earlier delivery dates. If indeed there is a shortage of them one might think they’d be classified as “essential.” The good news is if you need a new Diva cup, it will arrive in 2 days!! At least Amazons thinking of those oft forgotten things…even if there isn’t a shortage of them!

      • Amanda

Can he only eat lunch that needs to be refrigerated?? Like a peanut butter sandwich and fruit with a bag of chips is not enough? Yes, a mini fridge is non-essential luxury. Please refer to the definition of essential “adjective – absolutely necessary” This is the same word/definition no matter the profession.

        • Marinova

My point is that what is absolutely necessary for one person is not absolutely necessary for another. Ex, I am willing to bet that Amazon considers TP essential. As someone who cloth diapered and used cloth wipes for years, I think that’s a little silly, but I certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable deeming TP as “not essential”

        • Marinova

Also, just in case this was lost on anyone, keeping the lunch in a separate fridge is for patient safety. Mark my words, healthcare workers are the next vector. They account for 10% of Italy’s cases.

      • LOL

If you confused with the word essential, please ask your husband what is essential, a face mask with gloves or a mini fridge so he can eat a cold lunch instead of a lunch that does not need to be refrigerated and I can guarantee he will explain to you what essential means.

        • Marinova

I think you missed my point. I was not trying to say that a refrigerator is essential, although it might be for some depending on food sensitivities, end it is usually considered essential in rental properties. My point was that Amazon, you, and I am not in a position to judge what is essential. It’s quite a bold claim for any person or company to appoint themselves judge of what is essential.

      • Ashley

That’s exactly what I thought Marinova! What is essential to some may not be essential to others. I live in a small coastal community and our stores are wiped out. I am also a healthcare worker and fortunate to still be working but that also means I don’t have the opportunity to go to the store every day to see if the items I need have been restocked. We still had tourists flocking to the beach last weekend to the point that the mayor closed almost everything, including beach access, to encourage people to go home. Those people who came from larger communities have the option to shop at much larger (and many more) stores than what we have here yet they chose to use our resources so now the locals have nowhere to shop. I am already trying to figure out how to provide Easter baskets for my kids since everything but grocery stores are closed. I was hoping to take care of my Easter shopping through Amazon, but I’m sure it won’t be considered “essential” to the person that suddenly gets to make that choice for me.

        • LOL

Yes, Easter stuff is non-essential. No matter what country, language, profession, ect.

          • A

Omg you continuously miss the point 🙄🤦‍♀️

            • JORGE GARCIA

The only point I see here is why did you take my annual fee and now take forever to ship almost anything? you have to be an idiot to not figure this out. They are doing more bussiness than they can handle and are not hiring enough employees to meet the demand, and understand this, but why not return our portion of our annual fee that covers this part of yor 2 day shipping if your not going to provide it. Essential or not, Prime is no longer a next day or 2 day thing anymore, and for anything,at least not where I live, and it was before.shame on you Amazon for not sedating us sheep before you butcher us. Its take it or leave it mentality and you paid in advance, so suck it up buttercup. HA!!!!

      • allescn

I agree. We have had to do numerous school-based projects and need construction paper etc, which I ran out of! I do not want to be going to numerous stores to find what I need for all the distance learning my four children are now responsible to do. And…many of my subscribe and save items are no longer available. Things that I have been ordering for months, now are no longer available. I am paying for a service, I am no longer receiving, while many are now getting for free during this time (such as prime video and audible).

  2. Doug

Wonder if Amazon is going to stop charging for Prime until this is over? Otherwise guess we should cancel prime for a while.

    • Dkp91576

I chatted with customer service last week when they postponed my S & S order, and he extended my expiration date by 2 months.

      • PrincessMom

How on earth do you all chat with customer service? I’ve never been able to contact them!

        • Ana

In your phone yup in Amazon customer service, call that 1-800 no. And they promptly answer the phone and take care of you!

          • Ana

            Type* woops

    • VaReader

Great question…bc now they are offering free shows to non prime members as well so I’m wondering why I’m paying a monthly fee now of it isn’t for the fast shipping?

      • Doug

They are also offering free prime music to everyone. Also I read they are throttling the speed of prime videos because of demand.

        • Dealzgurl

Well, if they’re offering free prime music to everyone then they should offer Amazon Unlimited to prime members. I could live with that.

          • Casey

Right?? Just paid $12 for Music Unlimited. ugh

  3. Roro82

Priority should go to amazon prime customers, otherwise I’m cancelling my anual membership.

    • DebJ

Really? So, the people who can’t afford to purchase the membership, but their NEED is greater than yours, should be pushed aside until YOU get what YOU want? Not in my book!

      • Doug

Lots of speculation in your post. BTW, Amazon offers free/discounted prime for those on EBT and Medicaid. And just bc someone has Prime doesn’t mean their need is less than someone who doesn’t.

        • nikis22

Medicaid and EBT get 1/2 off prime membership I read somewhere, I would Google search if people are in need of it.

          • bmiles

Whoa, people on Medicaid and EBT get discounted memberships?! Why? It’s not essential to basic needs. That is ridiculous! I don’t purchase prime because I am on a budget and that means making sacrifices. More and more handouts to those who don’t contribute to society via working/paying taxes. It never ends!

This is not directed at you, nikis22. I’m just responding in general.

            • ohjodi

Excuse me. Amazon’s discount to Medicaid and EBT recipients has nothing to do with taxes. And in any case, I am on Medicaid and EBT, and SS Disability, and I PAID MY TAXES MY WHOLE LIFE to support these programs for others, and now I need them. SS Disability is MINE because I paid for that and my employers did for 35 years. My parents paid taxes, my siblings paid taxes, my aunts uncles and grandparents paid taxes, and now I AM the one who needs help out of all of us……I’m not getting a dime of anyone else’s tax money. You just wait. Nobody thinks they will become disabled at 50 but IT HAPPENS.

I get $60 in food stamps per month, and I PAY $150/mo for MEDICAID. Yes, Medicaid is not always free.

And it’s just wonderful when suddenly people accuse you of not having contributed to society or paying taxes, when that is exactly what I did for 35 years.

And for what it’s worth, I also paid taxes my whole life to send OTHER PEOPLE’S kids to public schools. I didn’t have kids. I didn’t gripe about my taxes paying for them. Plenty of them wound up not contributing to society or paying taxes, that’s for sure.

And, btw, many people live where it’s 20-30 miles to Walmart or even a regular grocery store and no transportation. So getting things delivered from Amazon or other places does help cover BASIC NEEDS.

Life is just so unfair to you.

              • bmiles

Yes, you definitely sound like someone who doesn’t gripe.

                • bmiles

No, just someone who is rational and can point out the obvious. I don’t have to resort to name calling.

                • EJ

They didn’t gripe. They educated someone who lacked empathy for and stereotyped people who get government assistance, as well as their ignorance of food deserts.

It’s absurd that people pay into the system for decades, but are assumed to be mooches when they receive benefits. I lost everything about 12 years ago — a long, convoluted nightmare wrought by a bored, petty, horrible, rich girl who had enough spare time and daddy’s money to stalk and harass me through the courts. I lost multiple jobs over it and became disabled on top of it because I didn’t have money or healthcare to address injuries and they became debilitating. I was stunned both at how little assistance was available and how difficult it was to access.

I was in my mid-30s and Ivy League educated. I never imagined I’d be in that position, much less as a young person.

If this crisis has shown one thing, it’s how many Americans are one lay off, injury, or dead spouse away from financial disaster. This is hardly the time to be clueless about who gets government benefits. My friends’ kids on the autism spectrum? My cousin in a wheelchair? My mom who paid into SS for 35 years? My friend whose mental illness makes her unable to work? Or should all these people die to save the economy?

              • momof4spoiled1s

Well said, people should take the time to learn the truth before they spout about issues they know nothing about.

      • Roro82

Yes! Thats why I PAY $119+ in an annual fee

    • Princess2000

Yes, that’s how it should be. Otherwise they have Walmart, Target, etc…

    • ohjodi

Having Prime when you’re ordering just means you don’t need to meet a minimum order of $25 for free shipping. Nothing else. There is no special priority perk.

So you can cancel your membership and save the indignation.

      • Roro82

NO!!! We have 2 day shipping with amazon prime, sorry you don’t know about the perks 😉

        • ohjodi

I did mean free 2-day shipping, sorry.

    • JK

Agree. Not only because I pay for annual membership. But that I am a Prime customer for almost 7 years, and this is not it. I use it weekly! And now I can’t use it because my orders are not “essential”, but for some people who have never used Amazon and won’t use it again when this is over- yes. I call BS.

      • A

Then cancel your membership and stop complaining….

        • Andrea

Can you be any more rude?

        • Andrea

          So Rude

      • Roro82

        Exactly!

  4. Jennifer

Many items that I would never think of as non-essential are now a month delivery…like beverages and food items. Not very hopeful for my subscribe and save order in a week…I can see a slight delay but a month is pretty bad especially for essentials. Their customers pay for a service and to not be able to rely on them to get essentials during this time is not good.

    • Cristine

My S&S order still came on time (I had trash bags and sponges in it, so maybe that was essential?) so I would see what happens.

  5. Amber

I needed a flash drive for work and was told 1 month delivery. I did in car pickup at office max instead.

    • Steve R

Same, did car delivery at Best Buy for a hard drive! Picked up 1hr after ordering!

  6. Dealzgurl

Given the longer delivery time, it does seem like a good time to cancel. I understand the delays and I’m okay with free children’s content for everyone. But I don’t want to pay for Prime if I’m not benefiting more than I’m losing. I will say that the two items I ordered last week came earlier than Amazon predicted even amid the delays but one item still hasn’t shipped. Of course it’s the item I want the most, lol.

  7. Ashley Harnish

Amazon won’t even let you talk to a customer service rep right now. I pay monthly so I wonder if I should just cancel for a month or 2 and then join again later

    • Dkp91576

They answer via Chat in Contact Us. Just ask any question and when the bot asks what you need, did we answer your question, just keep saying no. And you will get a live chat agent. My Prime exp date was extended a month and I was given $10 promo code in future purchase. Good enough for me.

      • PrincessMom

I tried that last night and never managed to chat with anyone. Just sat there waiting and waiting.

      • Lisa

They won’t do anything for me. It’s annoying how they don’t all do the same.

  8. Blue

I was just offered $3.00 digital credit for what I ordered. I was okay with that as I didn’t need it rushed to me. I am still suppose to have the items by next Monday.

  9. cindymadden-shepherd

Found this out the hard way lol! Luckily I was able to cancel one before it was processed.

  10. Sarah

I am not happy that this long delay was not communicated to me during check out. I chose the free 5-7 day delivery (I don’t have prime) yet when I received my confirmation e-mail, was told delivery would be April 30! I ordered these items for my kids Easter baskets! Not exactly life critical, but important to my kids. They have already asked if the Easter bunny would be able to come this year because of the Coronavirus. Anyway, my status shows the bar close to shipping..so I’m wondering if they will actually ship it soon..or if I should cancel and try to order from someone else. I have to say that I’m shocked Amazon can’t handle the extra business. My Target orders manage to arrive in a week! Why is Amazon taking a month?!

    • DebJ

Amazon has over 300 million online customers and we’re in the midst of a global pandemic so maybe that’s why?

      • nikis22

        I agree

    • ohjodi

Amazon is hiring 100,000 warehouse workers, now……THAT’S how busy and overwhelmed they have become since this PANDEMIC. In other words, until these extra people are hired, Amazon is SHORT 100,000 workers.

Go to a store and buy your easter candy. If you won’t or can’t go to a store, realize that you and millions of others are in the same boat, and are ordering from Amazon, so that’s why there’s a bottleneck.

  11. Mandy

This happened to me today. My shipping date was pushed out until the End of April.

  12. Michelle Murphey

I will be cancelling my Prime Membership utill 2 day shipping on most items return.

  13. S

I ordered something last night (non essential) that said it wouldn’t be delivered until April 21st. Woke up this morning with a notification that it shipped and would be here this Friday. I’m okay with less then a week delivery. I think things may appear faster then what they are saying.

    • Jennifer

That’s good news! Maybe they are just putting a really late date to discourage too much ordering…

  14. Daisy

I ordered electric toothbrushes today since current one stopped working. 🤞

  15. Ginger

My stuff is arriving on schedule. Maybe it depends on your location.

  16. Shelley

I got lucky! I had a subscribe and save order from the deals here that I forgot to cancel. On that order I had cottenelle, baby wipes and lysol wipes. I got the order on time yesterday. I am so grateful to Amazon and Hip2save!!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      💕🤗

  17. Ann

As someone that lives in a landlocked city prime rarely deliveries in 2 days, usually has extended times of 5 days but that is what we have to live with in regular time. There are just few local choices to buy. Does anyone have any ideas about Easter items? Anything that would ship prime or other places to shop online? I can;t find much locally for Easter and every item I have pulled up on amazon won;t ship till after Easter. I usually do not buy much candy since I buy that post holiday on sale but who knows this year. I had pop funkos, books, 3d type puzzles and some art items in my cart for Easter. Michaels is sold out of the art items. If I have to I can do the egg hunt and gifts late for Easter , my kids are understanding. Just this year they have had so many disappointments , I was hoping to make the Easter egg hunt really cool. Now I feel stuck. Right now more then ever I miss having local retail but , everythting for kids, books, toys all closed in the past few years. Thanks for any suggestions of items.

    • Ivan

      Try ebay

    • J

Many Dollar Trees are still open & most grocery stores have an Easter Department.

      • Ann

My husband tried the dollar tree. The shelves are pretty bare and one cashier open both time, yesterday and then about 5 days ago and the line was about 40 people deep. they said the check out was over an hour. Our grocery store is limiting everything. We are only going once a week and you are allowed 2 candy items, and 2 easter items (which are mainly stuffed animals and my kids are older). I usually do not like giving candy and give some useful or tangible. I think the big issue is I live landlocked, so there are many people in my city but only a few options or drive hours to another city and we all want the same things.

I will probably try a few ebay sales. hopefully people are going to be honest. I got ripped off by a few during Christmas and ebay seems to be not offering as much service or protection. I had to wait almost 30 days to get my money back over the last scammer. My favorite ebay seller I would use is in NY and they are not doing any shipping (which I totally understand) .

        • Sarah

Use paypal to purchase. They give you protection for fraud or if the package does not arrive.

        • Joni

Have you thought about giving experiences for Easter. Make coupons or something or since they are older put gift cards in them (easter Bunny can leave a note that says something to explain why he/she chose gift cards for them). We gave experiences for Xmas to my 5 and 8 year old with a few other gifts and it was a big hit. Thankfully we did all but one already. The other was a little weekend trip we were going to do last weekend. We will just have to honor it later!

          • raejeffrey

I totally agree about giving experiences. You don’t have to give candy or the usual items to have a good Easter. You can try healthier snacks your kids like (for instance, tangerines – most produce has been available here), you could cook or bake something special with what you are able to get, or you could give them coupons in Easter eggs. My mom did coupons one year for “Movie night – you pick, “You get to choose dinner,” “One item of your choice from the dollar store,” “Get out of a chore free” and more because she didn’t have the money for the usual baskets. It was actually one of our favorite Easters!

        • C

Have you tried ordering from target.com?

    • Amy

Have you tried the Funko site? Might have something there. I’ve had good luck with Walmart online, walgreens online and dollar general online. Did take slightly longer than the normal ship for me but only a few days. Good luck!

    • K

Try sarriscandies.com. They have wonderful chocolate, and free shipping at $29. It’s a little pricey, but it’s good.

    • MommySpendsLess

Ann – you may want to try Mindware.com. They have a variety of unique toys, including brainy puzzle-type games for older kids, books, science kits and crafts. The banner at the top said they’re currently offering free shipping with a $35+ order. I picked a random item and entered my zip code (in Florida) and the estimated delivery date was 4/1. They’re part of the Oriental Trading/Berkshire Hathaway family of brands and I believe they share a shopping cart so you’ll have even more options. (In spite of its name, Oriental Trading is based in Omaha, Nebraska.)

      • E

Yes! We love their extreme dot to dot puzzle books and logic games. Lots of fun options. Think outside the box. Barnes and Noble has lots of neat gifts and educational toys/puzzles. Their website has so much.

  18. Sarah

I called amazon today and if I cancel my prime I will not receive a discount, also they stated they will not be giving any reprieve to prime members due to longer shipping times at the time. They said they would “escalate “ it, but we shall see.

  19. Holly

It’s hard to make everyone happy and they’re doing their best so give them some credit for trying to do the right thing. Remember the old days when everything took weeks to arrive? I think this shows how spoiled we’ve become and how many “first world problems” we think are way more serious than they really are. Just my opinion.

    • Amanda

This was perfectly said. Thank You for speaking up.

    • DebJ

You’re so right. It’s just another example of why Americans are disliked so much.

      • Lissa

Really? Is that why everyone wants to be an American?

    • xoxo

Agreed. Many people ate entitled and demanding. And at a time like this I think you will be perfectly ok if something non-essential is delayed for a little while. Online retailers are busy at doing whatever they can. Give them a break and don’t add to complaints.

    • Marie

I paid $119 for 2 day shipping and I’m not getting it. That’s not a first world problem. That’s me paying for a service I’m not receiving. Thank You

      • Sarah

        My thoughts exactly!

    • ohjodi

Remember ordering from catalogs, at high prices, and waiting 3-4 WEEKS for it to arrive!?

  20. James A Stiner

I just cancelled mine, they gave me a full refund. I was getting delivery dates a month out. I had just renewed mine about two weeks ago. I just told them that they were charging for a service they were not providing. I don’t care about the other features. I am getting free shipping from so many stores now and better delivery dates than Amazon.

  21. J

If I don’t need an item asap, I’ll just put on no rush shipping keeping in mind that so many people are really struggling & suffering anywhere from the senior citizen or a disabled person needing food, toilet paper, cancer patients/survivors needing their vitamins etc to boost their immune systems, etc. If we could all just think about others & put your Amazon as no rush if it isn’t important, I think Amazon wouldn’t be so overwhelmed & your order might even actually arrive within a week. We all need to look out for one another, especially senior citizens, disabled, diabetics, & those with lung issues who shouldn’t be out right now. We’ve become so divided in this country, my hope is that we all realize what’s really important in life & start looking out for one another.

    • Dealzgurl

No rush shipping doesn’t always show up, fyi. I was willing to do slower shipping on the item I ordered Sunday but it wasn’t an option. Got it Monday unexpectedly. So, I really think it’s different for everyone depending on where you live and what you’re ordering.

    • PrincessMom

I always use no rush shipping when it’s something I don’t need right away. Half the time, I’m just buying things to put away for holiday or birthday gifts when I see deals on here 😉 I usually forget to use whatever “bonus” they offer, too, because they do expire. I just figure, it’s helping to keep the price of Prime down to not constantly use the express shipping option.

    • TJ

Yes!! This!! Thanks for your wise words.

  22. AV

I am very upset with Amazon right now. I understand that things are hard and I get that. But when you have prime members then they should be priority. It’s a business. At the very least they should be refunding/crediting people’s prime accounts.

    • ohjodi

Then cancel Prime. Prime doesn’t make anyone special. You get free 2-day shipping, which is what anyone gets when they order $25 or more.

      • MommySpendsLess

I don’t think anyone is saying Prime makes them special. Prime costs $100+/- per year. People pay that fee in order to receive certain services – among them unlimited 2-day shipping with no minimum order. Some people pay monthly but others pay annually. That service is unavailable to them right now. Some people who pay annually are being told that even if they cancel they will not receive a refund on the remaining unused portion of their fee.
It’s the equivalent of paying for Express Passes at a theme park then being told you have to wait in the regular line anyway because the other people want to go on the ride more than you do. Or paying for a haircut and the stylist stopping 3/4 of the way through because someone else came in who is more overdue for a haircut than you are.

I haven’t even been ordering from Amazon not only have the prices gone way up but nothing is in stock. I have been using Target and Lowes and Sam’s to ship. All shipping is delayed rn because these warehouses are not equipped to handle the surge they are seeing but they are doing great imo. I have received lowes orders in 2 days and target within a week Sam’s a little over a week. Have patience people these are new waters for all of us.

    • Jennifer

Sam’s Club has been wonderful! Things go in and out of stock, but I have been able to get things much easier from them. They ship pretty quickly and I have been very impressed.

  24. Ivan

Walmart is still offering 2 day delivery on most items. Free when you spend $35+.

    • Amy

Yep, made an order for my mom and everything showed up on time!

  25. Sarah

I am not cancelling my prime membership due to the delays. But I am frustrated that I am paying full price for things that they are giving away free to people. If they can give it away for free they can give me a discount. Quite frankly, I had many shipping delays at Christmas with prime and I complained and they basically told me to pound sand. I keep amazon for the tv service. And give target and walmart my business for their 2 day shipping.

    • Amanda

What are they giving away for free? If I order toilet paper without Prime and you order toilet paper with Prime you will get it first bc of the standard shipping dates. If you order a cat toy with Prime and I order toilet paper without Prime I may get it first because of the item importance…..Please enlightened me on where you are getting your data or avoid creating chaos with fake news.

      • Sarah

Free prime music and free prime children’s tv shows. I pay $119/year for that. Before you pick a fight with someone have your facts straight. I was polite. You were not. Also, are you the same Amanda replying aggresively to other people’s posts? If not, my sincerest apologies. If you are I suggest you take a step back from this. You seem to deeply involved to have a rational discussion.

        • Amanda

The prime music is a 90 day free trial. I was offered a 90 day free from YouTube music in January as well. This is a free trial which happens with many companies. I will say that yes Prime is offering free streaming for Children’s shows and I would never be upset that they are offering an extremely minimal portion of shows that are on Prime for children who may not understand what is going on and need some entertainment. This only benefits children so I would not hold this against Amazo Prime but only appreciate their empathy and understanding of what the children are going through. In regards to your question, was that my first post today, no. But I will accept your apologies as there is and are other posts from at least 1 other Amanda as obviously I have a common name. But are you the Sarah that harrassed the other Amanda the other day about a Bed Bath and Beyond coupon? My apologies if that was another Sarah as I know that is a very common name as well and I would not want to jump to conclusions 🙂 Also, I appreciate your concern but I am fully capable of knowing my limits. I recommend trying to stay compassionate and understanding for a company trying to do something nice for children while the other perks of Prime are still available such as priority shipping on essentials, no minimum purchase for free shipping, free streaming for ALL Amazon shows and movies, free PC (Twitch) games and unlimited photo storage. I realize these are frustrating times but venting how negative a situation is does not create a calm atmosphere. I personally know 3 people who have caught Covid-19 as well as my co-worker has recently passed from virus so please remember not to sweat the small stuff!

          • Baker's Wife

I wish there were a love button on here. I’d love it a thousand times if I could. Thank you for this extremely polite, to the point reply. I am sorry for the passing of your co-worker and will be praying for those you know who are positive.

Thank you. Be safe. Stay well.

            • Amanda

Thank You Baker’s Wife! This means more than you know 🙂

    • xoxo

Have some empathy for people in need right now Sarah.

      • Sarah

I do have empathy. I have not placed an order on amazon in 8 days because I don’t feel what I am purchasing is a need. I have an immunocompromised child so I can’t go out. Do you know my circumstances? Do you know if I am receiving a paycheck. Yet, I will still be billed for prime. Let me re-iterate my point. I am not ordering anything that isn’t a need. I am totally unsurprised that amazon can’t keep up. My problem is paying for other people. I support my large family on one income with no help from anyone, including the govt. I pay for luxuries like prime. Amazon is giving it away for free. Why should i bear the full cost for others when this is a total luxury?

  26. Jennifer

While I appreciate all that Amazon does and I do realize that we are in a pandemic… it is frustrating that orders are taking a month. Wanted to order something for my baby and it was a month for the shipping date. While she doesn’t have to have it right this minute, I am limiting my exposure to the general public and trying to avoid trips to the store. I am paying for Prime to have the quick shipping date and if for any reason there are going to be such delays Amazon needs to come up with something to offset it. I’d be happy with them extending our membership for a month or two at no charge…

    • Jennifer

Agreed! They were more than happy to get everyone hooked on prime service (often at the expense of brick and mortar stores) but it appears that they are among the weakest when something unforeseen gets them overwhelmed. That is the frustrating part…a delay of a week might be acceptable in this situation but a month really shows that now that they have us all hooked that they can make up whatever rules that they want. Good customer service would be to give their paying subscribers extensions to make up for the issues they have in their supply chain.

  27. shop4mybabies

truly shocked and appalled at all the entitlement and selfishness. we live in a big wide world where everyone is in the same crappy boat. if we don’t all row together, we’re going to sink and die. support each other, be understanding, be patient.

    • ImThatJennay

Yes, people need to chill out. Appreciate what you have. My husband complained about double stuffed Oreos and I chewed him out. Be thankful you’re alive, healthy, you can work and do it from the comfort of your home, your family is healthy and you have Oreos in the first place. Damn! 😂

    • Tara

I don’t see entitlement at all, what is entitled about wanting a service you paid for? Like so many have said, what one considers essential, others may not. There are a few “essentials” that I’ve tried to order that aren’t getting delivered for a month. Yes, it’s a pandemic, yes, we’re in uncharted territory but that doesn’t mean those of us who are voicing issue with this are entitled at all. When you pay for YEARS for a service and find out you won’t be reimbursed when they start giving it to others for free, it’s bothersome to say the least. I pray we all get through these trying times together.

      • Amanda

What you are saying is the definition of entitled. Yes you pay for a service but it has to be postponed due to a global pandemic. It is not like they are postponing due to it being a Tuesday….Others are not getting the same service for free?? Where are you coming up with this nonsense?? If I order toilet paper without Prime and you order toilet paper with Prime, you will get your item first because my standard shipping is still longer….Now if you order a cat toy with Prime, I probably will get my toilet paper without Prime first. And for the record, an “essential” item is not based on opinion. Please research the definition of essential (adjective – absolutely necessary). No, Easter Baskets, candy, a mini fridge, etc is NOT essential. Eat a peanut butter sandwich that does not need to be refrigerated if you are worried about sharing a fridge and need a mini fridge! That is a luxury! That is entitlement at its finest! How did your grandparents survive 50 years ago? “Essential” items will be the SAME as 50 years ago….

        • shop4mybabies

          i concur 🙂

        • xoxo

Agreed Amanda. “Essentials” is not a matter of opinion. They are necessities.

        • Tara

Bwahahahaha!!! Bless your heart if what I’m saying is the definition of entitled!! 🤣😂 That is so far from it!!! They are delaying certain items due to not being essentials in their opinion. I don’t need to research the definition of essentials to know those can vary tremendously. Like a grandparent on lockdown and can’t get one of the only things that help the medicine go down, marshmallows!! I realize those aren’t essentials to everyone but when I pay for them so she can get her medicine down to help her survive and I’m stuck at home with a very immune compromised system and the governor has asked immune compromised people to stay home until after the end of April, Amazon sent me an email stating the order was pushed out for a month. Who are they to tell me one of the very few things my cancer ridden grandma with dementia can eat is essential or not? Good grief!!! There is a little gray area in that department I think we can all agree on that at least! Have a little compassion!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

          • Lori

Very well stated Tara! We dont know someone else’s circumstance.

            • Tara

Thank you Lori. I just can’t believe the lack of understanding with so many. I, in no way am bashing on Amazon, I know everyone is doing the best they can, we’re not even saying anything about not getting it 2 day delivery. I ordered them a week ago, they were expected on the 25th and now, not for a month! I just can’t believe some calling people entitled that have no idea what so many are experiencing. It’s all relative. I don’t think anyone is complaining about not getting cat toys! 🤣

              • momof4spoiled1s

Tara, if there is any way I can help you get the things you need for your grandma please don’t hesitate to contact me. I will get marshmallows from the store and ship them to you the same day if you can’t get them.

        • Sam

You are so right! People complaining about not getting Easter baskets for their kids when people are literally dying from this virus.Put your energy and anger instead on how our government is dealing with this outbreak! Now that is what everyone should be enraged about.

    • Doug

How is it selfish to not want to pay for a service you’re not getting? Prime is $12 a month and a lot of people are going to be without a paycheck or even worse, losing their job. If your internet service goes out for a month, are you still willing to pay the bill? Bet not.

      • Amanda

What she is saying is to have patience. It will come. Just a little later than normal. It is selfish and entitled to complain and expect an essential item to come in 2 day shipping during a global pandemic.

    • xoxo

Me too. Many people full of entitlement in these comments. When there is a crisis in the country and around the world, expect some delays. I am a prime member and last thing I’d want to do is create even more problems by harassing customer service to complain about “poor me” not getting what i want right away. Essentials are things you NEED. Not WANT. The delay is only temporary!

    • Valerie0408

      🧡

  28. Amy

My S&S for the month closed a few days ago but nothing has shipped yet. Curious if that will happen for those items as well. Was just reading how the CDC announced the virus lived up to 17 days on that cruise ship, which makes me not really want to bring packages into my home anyway 😐

    • C

They also believe the virus lasts several hours up to several days on plastic and paper (aka shipping boxes)… just FYI, but you can always sanitize the box if you’re that worried

      • D

Good point. I read leave the box in your garage for a day and you will be safe.

        • Ginger

I leave everything in my car and garage for 4 days. I switch cars if i’m going out. We call it decontamination zone. My poor kids they have been through a lot, 2 tornados, an ef3, ef1. Their swingset that is in a heap is a daily reminder. Now this. I hope it just makes them stronger on the flipside.

    • J

Yes! Scared me as well. I saw someone who sprays all packages they receive with disinfectant & then leaves it alone for 24 hrs before opening it as a precaution. Wash your hands after opening any packages as well as after putting the groceries away.

    • Amy

My point was that it’s clearly living longer on surfaces than they originally thought. 17 days is a huge amount of time. That’s all.

    • AJ

My subscribe and save delivery date is the 24th of the month. I got everything from my order on time to include my pack of toilet paper 🙂

  29. C

@H2S I think for all those commenting, it’s also important to remember that the shipping partners (eg usps, ups, fedex) that amazon and other companies use are also being overwhelmed, which is why amazon is probably holding back some orders so other orders can go through that they believe are “essential “… it’s not like the holiday rush where companies prepare each year for the influx.

    • Lori

You are so right C. Thank you for mentioning that. Two members of my household have to work during this craziness…a otr truck driver & a fedex driver….so as many folks as possible can get much needed items. Fedex drivers are delivering more than twice their usual pkgs in a day. ALL drivers are exhausted but still working 6-7 days a week. We are unable to find hand sanitizer or ingredients to make it, cleaning supplies including bleach, gloves or toilet paper. Doing our best to make due but like others i am frustrated with the delayed shipping at amazon. I care for my elderly parents and supplies they need are delayed til end of april. God bless us all!

  30. Betheny Peterson

I found that if I have the item shipped to an Amazon locker, the shipping was much quicker! Try and switch your order to an Amazon locker.

    • Liz

      How does it work?

    • whatacutielife

I disinfect all my packages before I bring it in the house. Even our shoes.

  31. Observant mom

    First world problems!

    • Amanda

      Yesssss Girl!! PREACH!!!!

  32. LauraM

During this hectic time I am ok with that! As a mother of four children with one who is Deaf I have been needing to order many things online that will challenge & keep my kids busy on a daily basis. So I am SO thankful that I can order essentials & learning materials without exposing my family. So please be considerate of Amazon Delivery Drivers. Be thankful we have this option! Also these drivers are working daily & odd hours to help us!! BTW PLEASE leave your lights on your porch it helps them find your home! #thankAmazon

  33. Kim

I am currently working from home due to the circumstance but am still required to be able to sign/date documentation and fax back. I submitted and order for ink and paper yesterday and noticed today that the shipping estimated changed to late April. Until I receive those items I will have to continue to make small trips into work. I don’t live near a Staples or office supply store but I may have to make the 1-2 hours trek.

    • Kim

Thank you so much for this! I am going to check now! I think since shipping was extended I should be able to cancel.

    • Kim

Yay- I was able to purchase from Staples 🙂 A little pricer, but def worth skipping the trips into work. It says shipping may take longer, but I assume it will be before end of April. I appreciate your help!

    • ET

Staples currently has free shipping, no minimum.

  34. ecroston

My RR Garbage Bowl broke a couple days ago and I tried to order a replacement on Amazon. The delivery date was April 21 so I found the exact same one on Kohl’s website, used a 30% code, FS code and it was $6 cheaper than Amazon and will be here in a few days.

    • allescn

My vacuum broke and I compared Kohls and Amazon. I decided to go through Kohls because with the 30% & Kohls cash, it was cheaper. AND, I received it the NEXT day!! Score 1 for Kohls!

  35. kiera

Ordered stress gummies for my anxiety and they said they would be here in 2 days. I also wanted essential oils and those would take a month.

    • MeliH

Kiera, try ordering oils directly from planttherapy.com. Their oils are on Amazon but you may have better luck through their site. They are experiencing shipping delays but hopefully less than a month. They also have amazing customer service and rewards. No, not affiliated, just love their products and commitment to their customers. Good luck:)

  36. arianaanthony

I’ve been ordering things anyhow, they will say they don’t know an expected delivery date or it will be a month out . Then most items have updated a few days later to shipped. But yeah, go ahead , pitch a fit cancel your orders and memberships. Just makes my order get here quicker 😂

    • Amanda

Hahaha yesssss! I agree 🙂 Everyone please cancel ASAP

  37. Tiff

Lol… I hope you al re-read your comments. Most of you are truly being whiny.

    • Amanda

I would definitely title it FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS

    • J

Amen! Complain directly to Amazon through their chat & if they refuse to give you an extension or if you’d like a refund on your Prime account, tell them it’s really against the law to charge for a service they’re not providing.

  38. Olivia

A couple hundred years ago, our 8 year olds would be sent off to fight in wars. Missing the Easter bunny will not kill them. I am not being hard hearted; I have my own kids who will be sad and disappointed! But they will live!!!

  39. Clyles

FYI baby items are essential according to Amazon however everything I’m attempting to get before I deliver at the end of April won’t get here until hopefully the week before. Car seats are essential I need that.

  40. Wendy

The prices have definitely gone up I had multiple notifications regarding items in my cart and saved for later have gone up quite a bit.
    Sneaky.

  41. Tiff

    Yeah including the medical items

  42. nedwards55

I’ve had a few food items predicted a week out, I was ok with that, only to get them much earlier. I think they are trying to avoid unreal expectations. Traveling from Florida to Central NY last week, I will also add, that the truck drivers are busting their butts. They were bumper to bumper both lanes!

  43. Alice

Myself and a few of my friends made the conscious decision last week to stop ordering non-essentials so as to leave manpower and logistics for other people to get essentials. And by essentials, I am talking food, cleaning supplies and other items that are necessary to living (not a comfortable life or to keep up with routines, education, entertainment etc). I am surprised that Amazon and all their shipping partners have been able to do what they have been doing the last two weeks.

    • Erin

Everything I try and order has a delivery time of a month or more. Plus I ship vitamins and household goods to my elderly mother who lives remotely, and we DEPEND on Prime, but I get lied to about the extension. I have a gym membership AND my AMC movie pass that were automatically paused since I cannot use them, without me having to ask. They said they “cant” extend Prime membership anymore (lies) one rep said it was because I was on a yearly Prime instead of monthly…..I got $15 promo, but I really do not care about the promo, I would like my Prime extended. They are giving away free Prime video to everyone (and while I appreciate that) but meanwhile paid members get nothing. I paid for a service I cannot use, and I order A LOT of things, I have the Prime VISA, I have audible, I have devices…so I am all in with Amazon and I never contact them for anything. I do not thing its fair that they do not pause or extend memberships automatically as other companies have done.

      • Observant mom

You can show them how upset you are by cancelling your prime and other services. If enough people do it then they will learn. Power in numbers, although, Amazon is scrambling to get all orders shipped out. This all came at them as a surprise like it did everyone else.

  44. Jes

I work at one of Amazon’s fulfillment center (picking orders). Some things I see are not what I consider “essentials”, but a lot of things such as books, educational booklets like math, reading, coloring books, etc. are up the alley as essential for school children who are forced to stay home. Others essential things are baby wipes, diapers, vitamins of all kind, latex gloves, masks, TP, toothpaste, dish detergents, laundry soaps. I see SO much of them it’s crazy. Hope that gives some ideas on what is essentials products are.

  45. Rose

I am a prime member and while it’s a temporary inconvenience to deal with the shipping delays on what are deemed non essential items, I will survive. I’m not going to cancel my membership because of that or because non prime members are getting prime perks temporarily though I can see why someone would opt to cancel. If having free video streaming helps an overwhelmed mom and housebound kids get through the day a little easier, that’s a great thing. I also realize there are alot of people out there who need to stay home for their protection and they need groceries and supplies now. I personally feel that’s more urgent. But I’m not going to insult anyone who feels differently. We are all a little worried and our world has been turned upside down. I just hope all of you take good care of yourselves and each other and I’ll see you on the other side of this. It won’t last forever.

  46. Kimie

I generally try not to buy too much from Amazon because I’d rather support our brick and mortar stores but I’m so glad they are prioritizing orders based on essential vs non-essential goods. My husband works for UPS and is risking exposure to COVID-19 everyday delivering non-essential goods. With all the online sales going on right now, I’m tempted to order non-essential goods just because they are a great deal but I’ll refrain unless they’ll honor the price and delay shipping! Good for Amazon! I hope other companies follow suit!

    • Sarah

Thank your husband for the great job he is doing! These delivery people are working crazy hard. I totally appreciate them!

      • Kimie

        Thank you Sarah!

  47. Holly

I ordered an item from a third party seller that says their items ship from the US. I got a shipping confirmation and the tracking shows it’s coming from China!! Now I’m worried if the package and the product inside is safe to be in my house. Opinions?

    • Lisa

Holly, it is recommended to let it sit aside somewhere (preferably in a garage away from family) for 24 hours.

      • Holly

        Thank you Lisa🙂

    • witoldyna

At this point China is safer than the US

  48. Ali

I have my dogs Dasuquin (helps his joints) on a monthly auto ship that usually comes around the 15th of the month. I finally got it today about a week & half later. Just an FYI for anyone ordering. Maybe this was soon because it was at the very start of amazon changing this policy.
